i picked up a basic 3/8 socket set the other day for $35 down from $50. 20 sockets (sae and metric) a decent ratchet, and the bonus: 10 stubby combo wrenches. Didn't sound all that great of a deal until i looked closer and the sockets are 6 pt! I haven't been able to find a cheapo set that isn't 12 pt to save my life!

I grabbed this set mainly for my tool cart at work. I do a little wrenching and desk work, so i don't really want to cart my bigger tool set to the shop. I've been building up a smaller, less expensive set for this basic work.

Those hitachi drill bit sets are getting lower in price. the 29 piece is $14.98 and the large 130 piece set is $22.98 at least at stores in my area.

I bought a whole set for $10 a few weeks ago at one of the local stores. It was the last of the metric sets, but they still have a bunch of the standard sets left but for $15.

I picked up the large Hitachi drill bit set and have been pleased with them so far. Drilled quite a few 1/4" holes in 3/16 plate with no problems.

They are still on sale if you can find them. Stanley Fatmax is taking over.

Bought one of these online and went and picked it up. Checked the shelf and they had 2 more, grabbed those. Went to check out and one case felt lighter (only had the #written on the case) Manager came over and opened it and it was this.

Question for anyone:

For something like this on clearance from lowes, when I search for store inventory online is it normal to assume that it will say 0 even though the store shelf might still have some left?
Or is it 100% accurate that if the online inventory says zero for a clearance item then the store inventory is definitely also zero?

I just picked up a metric socket storage set from a Lowes that said they had 0 stock of. Just happened to stumble on it at the end of the isle.

Just picked up the magnetic tool organizer marked down from 18 to 3. Bought the last two they had left. Driver sets were not marked down however, which I found interesting how these things vary by region.

It's not accurate. If you order online for store pickup because it says they have it in stock, there's a 50% chance they don't have it and they cancel your order. If it says "0" in stock online, there's a chance that you can go to the store and they actually have it.

there is also the chance it says they have 100 in stock and the lazy asses won't pick the item and just cancel your order.

Thanks for posting all these clearance deals. I stopped by Lowe's today to see what I might be interested in. They had this lower toolbox on clearance for $56. When they didn't have the keys for it they asked if I would give them $20 for it. It took about as long to find a mirror as open it. Scary how easy it was. I never lock my boxes anyway. I also bought the triple cut pair for $5.

This one.

Please post item numbers so the rest of us can search for the same deal. Or post a picture of your receipt so we can try to price match.

I built a stack of these (top, middle, bottom) for $76 the day before the middle & bottom were taken off the web site. The middle was a little beat up, but it's hardly noticeable when the top is on it. I can't really complain for that price.

I picked up this set yesterday for $5, a few of the local stores had stock but my closest store was the only one that had the price as low as $5.

It's kind of an odd set. Probably wouldn't be useful for most of the pros around here but it would be handy to have around an office for putting together furniture and other stuff. COO is Taiwan so quality is decent.

The only thing I don't like about it is the handle and shafts connect with a 1/4" male square (handle being female) so you can't really use the shafts with anything other than the handle it came with. Socket sizes are sparse and I don't get the need for the 1/4" bit adapter socket when there are already three bit driver shafts. I'm satisfied for five bucks. Item #338530

I agree, that's an odd set. What's odder is it shares most of the core "ratcheting screwdriver" parts with two other, quite similar sets (though one is much better.)

That being said, the ratcheting screwdriver is very nice and on par with the GearWrench set that's so popular. (I have both.) I have the #86769 set which makes a lot more sense - it has mostly bits, as well as a T-handle driver. There are sockets but it doesn't bother me. At the time it was also $30.

For $5, hard to go wrong though. The ratcheting screwdriver alone is worth picking up a few.

The competing products (GW and Snap-on if I recall correctly) also have a female 1/4" in the handle... it's just standard for ratcheting screwdrivers for some reason. Makes it nice to add extensions/accessories. GW makes a 1/4 square female-female adapter for situations as well. Also, the GW nut driver shafts are 1/4" square male so that works nice as well.

This is 86769... what rocks is it has 1/4 female on both ends so you can put the ratchet on the top of the driver. Not sure the others have thatas the handle style is different?
