Check the charger first, do you have a multimeter? Check the power supply, put one lead inside the plug and the other to the outside. Match it to the label for voltage, I imagine it will be 14v-18v but probably will be unregulated so it will probably read higher. If it's good, plug it in and test the leads that would touch the battery, should be more than 12v.

If both of those are good you should try to shock the battery. If you have a 14v power supply, probably up to 18v hook it up to the battery, making sure to get the polarity right. Leave it on for about 10 mins (since it has a partial charge), watch it DO NOT LEAVE IT UNATTENDED. If you overcharge it with this method it will burst and could ignite or blow up(literally). Then plug it into the charger, it should now accept the charge.

You can also check the drill by hooking up a battery/power supply to the leads inside the drill, this will definitely tell you if the drill is working. 6v to 14v would be fine and not cause any damage. More voltage would work but could cause excess RPM/heat, it should easily be able to handle 24v but no sense in pushing it.

How would I know if a charger is **** or if it's the batteries? The Hitachi 12v impact display model isn't charging. Got 2 Li-Ion batteries and a charger, also tried another charger at the store. Both chargers, both batteries, same thing. Put in the battery and the light doesn't come on. I assume both batteries are drained because nothing happens in the impact. But, I put a meter on the batteries and bet 6 volts (negative to one of the 2 positive terminals).

The light on the charger should come on if it's charging. Maybe they're full and there is something wrong with the impact??

On he impact itself I get 98k ohms across + to - with the trigger squeezed, OL with the trigger released, so that's not a short. I don't know what the "LD" terminal is for, but I get no reading between that and the +/- terminals

I would just do a warranty claim. Hitachi doesn't care if you got the display model on clearance. You just need to show them proof of purchase that proves that you are under warranty. The way the battery packs have been treated will proably mean they will have a shorter life and performance than usual.

The batteries have lost their charge completely. You need to jump start them with a good battery. I used my dewalt 20v when the Hitachi kit I got had 3 stone dead batteries and nothing happened on the charger at all. Took two wires and connected them + to + and - to - a few times in a real quick sequence like second/half second at a time. Put them on the charger and they charger right back up.

Thank you so much for that tip. Used the 18v battery I got from the other Hitachi kit a few years ago and did a real quick jump start. Batteries are charging now. Will this work every time with dead Li-Ion batteries?

A while back I saw posts about nails bought cheap at Lowes. I can't find it in this 2489 post thread.
Someone is now selling some on my local Cl.
These are 15 degree 2x.090 bostitch coil nails.
What price would he have actually paid.
I would like to make a reasonable offer but he is asking close to the original price.

Are these the coil framing nails? They still have a bit of stock locally. $34 for 5000 nails I think. I'm not sure if they're Bostitch though.

If he got them at HD, he could have got them for a penny each

Did not see anyone post these. These are now 9.98 each. Great for gifts. They are Taiwan except pliers are China. The pliers come with a small adjustable wrench.

Is the Kobalt bit set made by Gearwrench?

It looks almost identical to the Gearwrench set on Amazon, and even the sizes of the sockets and bits included are the same.

While I don't know if it's a Gearwrench rebrand I do own this set and it's really handy. I have used it many times taking little interior pieces apart in hard to reach places.
It's actually not the exact set. The one I got for $10 was about 2 years ago and had more bits in it.

Yeah, I was about to buy it, but then I looked at the bits more closely and realized I already had almost all of them.

The only piece I really needed was the 14mm socket in 1/4" drive, and I ended up buying the Kobalt 10-piece 1/4" socket set for $4.50 instead. That way I'll have the 14mm and a spare socket set for the car.

Lots of stuff going on sale. The sticker changing lady had a lot of yellow stickers. A lot of the black friday side stacks are marked down.

I'm not seeing any smoking deals in 2 stores here.. 15-30% off a bunch of Kobalt stuff, but nothing worthwhile for brand names in tools that hasn't already been posted. Did you peek at any of her stickers?

Would be interested as well. The Kobalt deals of late have been good, but I am not in any great need of basic hand tools (3/8 ratchet sets and the like).

They are not the same. I owned the Kobalt and it is not the same as in your photo. The Kobalt I have do not have the thumb wheel.

I have seen the GW a@ Sears and GW is a bit longer with thumb wheel.

I guess the new lower price is half off. There are a lot of new lower prices tags now.
