I'm not sure if it's been discussed or if every Lowes is different, but an employee there told me that they mark the things down on Tuesdays.

It's store by store. I have a few Lowe's near me. Each one discounts on different days.

Does Lowes put their clearance items in a certain area or you just have to go walk around the isles hunting?

Depends on the store, some such as Rincon, GA have nice clearance displays while most I've been in have a small clearance section that is hard to find and full of mostly opened/damaged/display items. Many of the outstanding deals seem to be in their respective locations in the store. Definitely have to tag hunt.

I had very bad luck with the smaller Stanley BC209 charger, kept clicking on/off so you might want to check them out carefully and hang on to your receipt.

http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=271969

These $27 chargers my not have any of the same problems but after my experience w/ Stanley I'd check them out thoroughly.

That *****, picked up the last BC209 chargers at $4 yesterday. Also got the 20-ton bottle jack for $17.

Me too. I call it yellow tag shopping. I have even infected my children with this sickness as they will alert me of clearance items I may have missed.

I check the website daily for updated prices on known clearance items (Wiss, Ideal, Stanley levels when they were still on clearance). Usually, though, I just visit my local store 2-3 times a week scanning for those yellow tags. Half the fun is in the hunt, and the additional 10% discount is just icing on the cake. :)

I go to Lowe's often to check out the deals and found these aluminum 2 ton jacks and battery charges for a awesome clearance price. I called another store and they were different prices so YMMV. I bought most of them even though I really don't need them. Good luck peeps. Items were bought in League City TX.

Now that's a deal.... I am going after work to see if this is available.

Went to my store and an employee had the last one stashed for him behind the hardware computer, I almost nabbed it out of spite.

I originally posted this in the 2014 thread, not realizing there was a 2015 thread.

I picked up the Porter Cable 12V Max Lithium Drill Driver kit for $34 today at Lowes. Their website currently has it listed on sale at $69.65 with a regular price of $139.30. The tag in the store had it originally listed at $199, not sure how long ago it was they were trying to get $199 for it though.

Picked it up in Virginia Beach, item #332602

You should have taken it, when I worked at Home Depot & Lowes we couldn't hold things to purchase later just because they were a good deal.

I probably would have if I really needed it, but I just bought a steel one from HF that only gets used 3-5x a year.

I was really hoping to get one of the battery chargers, but my store didnt have any

my store did not have the chargers on clearance and it looks like they did not carry the aluminum jack.

Mine had one of the small chargers about 20% off. Then none of the other stuff in this thread. I have $100 in gift cards I've actually been wanting to use.

I saw several of the chargers for $29 but none of the other stuff. I went there for the Lincoln torch kit and got all excited when I saw one tagged for $129. Took it to the register and it rang up for $299 because I had the wrong one. DOH!

Go and confront the manager. Employees cannot stash sale items, and that's a big policy violation for Lowes Managers to condone.

Let him know he needs to make it right, or you'll escalate the complaint to the head office and his director.

That'll move mountains,
Jason

Not sure if it's only local or not, but the Savannah HD had a 3-ton jack and stands for $55 a few weeks ago. The laser on the Lowe's jack is to line the jack up...a "good idea" that will likely either break or get so dirty it is hard to see after a few uses.

I picked up the Stanley PC1A09 100-watt power supply for $13 (regular price $20) at the Hinesville, GA Lowe's a few days ago. Needed a better charger for the cell phone, since regular USB chargers won't work in my truck and the ones I usually buy last only a few months. It rang up at regular price and I had to show the employee where I found it. The next day they had a hook full of them at regular price (though the site is showing a similar 120-watt version now).

I can see both sides, its annoying when I order something for in store pickup that has 10 in stock and I get a cancellation, which signals to me that some employee is stashing, but then again these guys get paltry employee discounts, which is a **** deal when you're working a retail job.

You know how many times per day the manager hears that? And least 10 spoiled brats per day. You are wasting your breath trying to lay claim to something that isn't yours.

When I worked at lowes when I was in college I stashed stuff all the time...especially clearance stuff. Not only did you get the clearance price but the managers would typically give me another 50 to 90 percent off. I got new Bosch and Dremel tools for as little as 10 bucks which was wayyyy below cost. It was the only good thing about the job. And most the people working there could care less about the policy of putting stuff behind the counter. They don't get paid enough to care. We once found an old pallet of 12/3 100 ft extension cords that wee marked down to 5 bucks...normal price was over 50. Employees and all the managers grabbed handfuls of them and they were gone in 1 minute.

The manager may pay lip service to the whiny customer, but there's little chance that the employee is going to be punished. In fact, they'll probably laugh together about what a douche the customer was after he leaves. And this is such a small thing to make a scene over. It's very possible that the item was left there unintentionally for any number of reasons. Maybe an employee was checking a price for someone or looking up some bit of info on the item to answer a question, maybe it was a return that was set there to be reshelved during downtime, maybe a customer called and said they were on their way to come purchase it and it was pulled from the shelf, maybe it was misplaced in a different department and another employee brought it over but didn't know where it went. I'm not saying employees never stash things, or that it is right or wrong when they do, but if they were trying to hide it they probably wouldn't leave it in plain sight. If you had asked to purchase it or paid for it online and the order was canceled AND you could prove that it was willfully withheld then maybe you'd have cause to complain, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

It my case it was definitely the way it happened. It was stashed by the register, then I saw him load it in a cart and talk about how cheap it was before he rolled it away while I was still shopping.

I worked at Menards for 7 years, I can promise you employees stash items all the time....most are just less obvious about doing it.

This is what's wrong with the world today! Your outlook and practices **** it up for the people that do good in life. Do your job. The reaon you don't get paid enough, and others of this same nature, is because you don't strive to better yourself.:eyecrazy:

You know they do it all the time. Ho many times has someone here bought something online only to get a call later saying its not in stock. When I go in to buy something that has an online inventory of 5 there usually is 5 items there. YMMV

I am sorry but this is the way of the world. Do you think the family of the staff at the doctors office waits for hours in the lobby. How about the drunk brother of a cop in the city the cop works, think he is going to jail. Life is full of these events, some times you are on the wrong side of the stick. Everyone reading this post I would imagine has passed along an unofficial benefit to themselves or family. I you have never done anything like this, you are better than I am.

Stanley PC809 800-watt inverter, $17.10 w/tax in Florence, SC. Originally $80. The store otherwise had similar prices to other stores in the GA/SC/NC/VA areas I've stopped at--50% off seems to be the norm for stackable screwdrivers (?!). The PC 12v Max set was over $130; cheapest I've found it was @$70 in the Coastal GA and Low Country area.

As for the morality of employees grabbing deals, my opinion is that it depends on intent. I'd rather see a guy making $12/hr (or whatever they make) get a deal on a tool they need than someone making 100k/yr buying it to hoard since it complements their other dozen or so similar tools. I'd also rather see either get it than someone looking to buy out the stock to resell at flea markets and such at near-retail prices.

I've had a few questionable dealings with various Lowe's stores, such as the one in Roanoke Rapids that showed a few levels in stock for around 90% off just before Christmas. Thinking of last minute gifts, I stopped only to be told that they must have been gone after a cursory check by the associate in the aisle. He didn't seem interested in locating them, and the store had no outstanding deals, so it won't be a regular stop. My local Lowes had clearanced Wiss crimpers on the 75% off rack months ago; picked up a couple of sets but the cashier asked the Tool World guy to confirm where I had gotten them. Mysteriously, the box they were in was gone and a sticker for some cheap iPhone accessories was in its place, only a couple of minutes after I'd left the rack. I left the crimpers on the counter and paid for the other stuff I'd gotten.

You think the guy hawking that **** at the flea market is rolling in the kash? I bet he's making less than the dude working for $12/hr.
