Have any of your local Lowes restocked their Kobalt tools after the recent clearance sales on many of them?

Last time I checked the one near me nearly all of the ratchets and many of the sockets had sold out due to being on clearance.

So, what do you do when the only tool employee absolutely refuses to look behind the sliding overhead storage for something?

"It says only 1 in stock, we don't have it. That's just a non-working display model"
"It also says non-stock, so yeah, we don't have it"

Me: "well can you look in the overhead behind the sliding cover where all of the Hitachi stuff is?"

"It's not in there"

Me: "can you just take a look? Every time I've been told it's just a display model, I've proven the employee wrong"

"It's not in there. All of the power tool kits are up above, and it's not with them, so we don't have it"

Think I'll get **** for opening those sliding storage covers myself? That old buzzard was no help whatsoever. And, I bet if I complained to the manager, he'd tell me to pound dirt

no, at 6"4 I can reach them, so sometimes I just slide them open if I don't see a ladder around, no one ever said anything bad, did get a few offers for help though when doing that. My guess is your taking his hidden tools waiting for them to bottom out.

Saw these Stanley tools today about to be put on display. Looks to be the same/similar Chinese made tools you see at Wal-Mart. Way to step it up Lowes. :(

What wrenches did they replace with the Stanley?
Blue Hawk hopefully

At least a few Stanley tools are made in America... a few of the screwdrivers anyway

First Craftsman (Sears) and Husky tools (Home Depot) switched to being made in China, and now Lowes is replacing their mostly Taiwan-made Kobalt line with cheap Stanley stuff.

It's a sad day...

Do any of the major retailers even sell USA or Taiwan-made tools anymore?

Those look like trash, my stubbies are beefier than those. Those are toys, not tools.

Agreed. They look like Stanley's cheapest line.
I got Stanley ratcheting wrench sets from Walmart several years ago and they are very nice. These look like ****. They look like the garbage Crescent wrenches that Tractor Supply clearanced out earlier this year.

Looks like some of the Stanley tools are positioned to replace their Kobalt equivalents. For example:

Kobalt 19 piece 3/8 drive ratchet set with hard case ($17.99 regular price). Made in Taiwan. Comes with a 72-tooth ratchet that's excellent for the price.

Stanley 18 piece 3/8 drive ratchet set ($19.99 regular price). Made in China. I believe the ratchet is 60-tooth.

Most likely Stanley is being substituted in for the Blue Hawk stuff.

If the product packaging changes even a little bit on the Kobalt, they clearance it out and new Kobalt stuff comes in.

They did a decent sized clearance of the Blue Hawk items recently. Something has to come in and replace all that stuff.

Kmart actually did the same thing recently and added in Stanley as their basic tool line underneath Craftsman.

exactly...and i'll take that Stanley ratchet over the blue hawk ratchet any day. This could be a good move.

Hopefully you're right. Those Blue Hawk ratchets look truly awful so even the Stanley would be a step up.

In other news, I noticed that the set I posted a few posts above is actually quite a good deal at $18 because it contains all 6-point sockets. Most Kobalt tool sets contain 12-point sockets for the 3/8" drive size.

Here's the link. May be worth checking out if you are in need of some 6-point sockets. The set includes one of their Taiwan-made 72 tooth ratchets which is a nice bonus.

It is very possible that all the kobalt clearance are to make room for China kobalt.

I'm pretty sure the Stanley stuff is just replacing all the Blue Hawk **** but I did notice a new Kobalt combo (forget to snap a pic) that was also made in China. It was kind of black/matte color combo of 3/8 and 1/4 ratchet sets with socket combos.

Stanley is a major step up from Blue Hawk. I had plenty of opportunity to buy that stuff on clearance, still do in fact...it's such **** that I didn't even bother, it's not worth the $3.

Picked up the Hitachi 18v li-ion 1/4" impact that I was looking for the other day for $28

The dumb **** the other day didn't look at the big bucket right by his feet that was full of display model drills.
