There's a state called Indiana?

Sent via homing pigeon using methamphetamines

I will have you know my friend, that Indiana almost became very famous at one time when a Mr. Lincoln ended up becoming President of the US of A. Unfortunately, after spending most of his life growing up in Indiana, he shuffled over to Illinois for *just* a couple years once an adult and then ran from there. Illinois likes to take advantage of that situation, with the whole Lincoln thing, but the fact is, he lived in Indiana for many more years than Illinois ever and what made him the man and President he was, was his upbringing in Indiana, which does have lots of folks even today with common sense and good core values (no not everyone). Just another example of how Indiana gets ignored! Throughout history even! :wtf:  :headscrat :( - Paul

So to sum it all up, Indiana almost became well known for someone that lived there for 14 years of his life 150 years ago, but that didn't end up working out.

Sorry Paul, but I think you might actually be hurting your case instead of helping it.:lol_hitti I actually found myself feeling sorry for your state after reading your post, so I spent a few minutes looking up some interesting facts about Indiana to help you and your neighbors out. I figured my tangent was acceptable since this thread is all but dead, now that the 2016 Lowe's thread is already up and running.

1- Indiana has produced more professional basketball players per capita than any other state. 26 players per million residents.
2- Wabash was the first city in the United States to have street lights illuminated by electricity.
3- Over 50 percent of the world market share for medical orthopedic devices come from Indiana-based companies.
4- The first gas pump was made in Fort Wayne Indiana in 1885.
5- Indianapolis Motor Speedway, need I say more.
6- They have a city named Santa Claus, Indiana.
7- Indiana has more miles of interstate highway per square mile of land than any other state.
8- The Gatling gun was invented in Indiana.
9- Indiana was host to Elvis Presley's last concert in 1977, three months before he died.
10- Orville Redenbacher was born in Indiana, and to this day 90 percent of the world's popcorn comes from Indiana.
11- Indiana was the starting point for the Lewis and Clark expedition.

Many would say the first 14 years of your life are the most important as far as life values, religion, manners & education. Mr Lincoln became what he was (150 years ago or no) because he was raised in the great state of Indiana.
Besides, my home state doesn't need you feeling sorry for it. I am a PROUD HOOSIER like many others in the state.

Peter, well said! While I was born in Minnesota and have lived in Illinois and Michigan for some time as well as Indiana, I grew up in Indiana and do support the state and its efforts to improve.

Jeremy, thanks for all those contributions for discussion! I did not know most of those myself! On item 3, Cook Medical is out of Bloomington, which has a big portion of medical devices. Who would have thought of Indiana as a burgeoning key health and medical technology state? It has been for some time. On item 6, Jasper and Santa Claus Indiana are fun to visit for the kids, year round. - Paul
