I was at Lowes today and they had Kobalt 24V lithium batteries for $10. They probably had 50 of them on a display with some of the remaining Christmas tool displays.

If I had Kobalt power tools I would have bought a few

Well I picked one up to see how good of a deal it would be for pulling the batteries...

Removing the case shows a very basic control board and battery cage.

Pulled the soldering iron out and remove the wires and board, I should have just cut them. there are two screws holding the two halves of the cage together

Working one side at a time, begin by removing the tape and mechanically removing the spot welded tabs.

These are only 1500mAh batteries, but they are Samsung and not a bad deal for $1.66/each.

Here is a spec sheet

What do you use them for? If you don't mind me asking.

I use this size for flashlights. But they could be used for repairing laptop batteries or other tool batteries. These are high discharge batteries so you could use them pretty much anywhere an 18650 will fit.

I am thinking about making a powerwheels "upgrade" battery out of 30 cells. 6 x 5 in parallel would make a pretty healthy 18V battery for a 12V powerwheel. Since they come in 6 battery cages, it would be plus, just have to rearrange the cells. $50 for a 9Ah battery.
