Lowes Closeouts

I checked at our Lowes today to see if they had any closeouts like others have posted. They had combo wrenches and sockets for 50 to 60 % off. I was going to pick up a few until I saw the Knipex Cobra sets, 10 and 7 inch, marked down to $11.99 from $40+ originally.

I dropped the Kobalt wrenches as fast as I could and grabbed three sets of the Knipex. Tomorrow I am going to give one set to one of my employees, put a second in my roll around and the third will go away with my other spare tools.

I've got a Lowes jones going on. Mine got hit by a tornado and is in the process of being restored....

No Lowes deals for me for a while unless I want to drive 45 minutes out of the way.

Hey Patrick,
This was at the Southern Pines store on 15-501. They only had four sets when I was there and I bought 3 of them.

Yes, some seem to find the Lowes/Home Depot hot tip deals posted here.

No, in three years, I've never, ever found even one of these great deals at my stores on Sprague Avenue in Spokane, WA. I always ask the tool department guy to make sure I'm looking where they should be. He and his computer don't have a clue as to what I'm talking about.

Maybe,
They only had four sets when I was there and I bought 3 of them.

Coach James,

Does your Lowes store still carry the Kobalt 1/4" drive, flex ratchet head, pass-thru, 21 piece, ratchet and socket set (model# 266731) for less than $22.72?

Thanks,

Dave

Mine had some for about 32 bucks IIRC. IF you want the sockets, PM me. I bought a set but only needed the flex head.

Buckgnarly,

Thanks for the offer.

However, I purchased from Sears the following Gearwrench pass-thru sets when they discounted all Gearwrench tools 50% off:

http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_00930049000P?prdNo=1&blockNo=1&blockType=G1,
http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_00930036000P?prdNo=3&blockNo=3&blockType=G3.

Like you, the reason I want to purchase a Kobalt 21 piece, pass-thru, ratchet and socket set is for the 1/4" drive, flex head ratchet.

By the end of this month, I hope that a couple local Lowe's stores will discount the Kobalt sets to prices between $15 and $18.

I was at the Lowe's in Sandusky, OH yesterday. This store had 2 in stock (actually 1 left in stock; I purchased a set) of the Kobalt 21 piece, 1/4" drive, flex thru ratchet and socket set (model# 266731) for $17.48 (original price $34.**).

That store also had 1 in stock the Kobalt 1/4" drive, roto ratchet for $12.59. In addition, I saw 1 Kobalt 3/8" drive, roto ratchet for $15.11.

Dave

Update: I called the Mentor, OH Lowes this evening. They have in stock 2 of the Kobalt 21 piece, 1/4" drive, flex thru ratchet and socket set (model# 266731) for $17.48. In addition, this store has 1 left of the Kobalt 3/8" drive, roto ratchet (model# 23738) for $15.11.

I just got that set today for 17 bucks. They had the 3/8 set on clearance too, but the ratchet was not nearly as nice looking as the 1/4 set and wasn't swivel head either so I passed on it. I did grabbed the 1/4" and 3/8" soft handle swivel head "Roto Ratchets" for $13 & $14, a 6 piece set of mini long reach pliers for $15, a set of 3/8 Long reach Ball End Hex sockets for $15 and a set of 3/8 tamper proof torx sockets for $15.
Most of the individual sockets were all still in stock, but the standard ratchets were picked clean except for the last to Roto Ratchets which I grabbed.

On a side note, does anyone no what the story is with these Kobalt closeouts? Are they going to be changing brands or are they releasing new models or something? I'm hoping they clear out the screw-drivers next cause I think I want a set of the rubber handled Kobalts.

I heard that, but I thought they were going to offer both levels of quality still since they already have the Task Force junk. Guess not... Funny thing is, they'll probably offer re badged HF junk and still charge a premium for it because your buying it from Lowes... Before the closeout's the Kobalt stuff was WAY over priced for what it was.

The Task Force **** isn't new to my store. They've had it for over a year now. That's why I thought maybe they were just adding it as a lower priced/quality option. I never realized it was going to be the exclusive and Kobalt was going bye bye. Oh well, like I said, Lowes is over priced on everything anyway. The only time I buy anything there is if its on clearance.

Ouch! That was below the belt... Try and keep the gloves up, will ya? ;)

I'll sure try. My store is already cleared out of all the good stuff so it doesn't matter anyways! Must be more GJ members here or something.. :headscrat

Absolutely no deals on Knipex at my store. Gearwrench seemed to be half off though. The Kobalt open stock sockets were all a dollar and change except the one I would actually buy, which was still $9....

my cobra sets are still 24.95$ and the rest of the mechanic drive tools are half off as well as all the gearwrench sets. they said the next few days will be another price cut and they need to be off the shelves by next month. my question is if they will go as low as some of their other clearances-up to 99% off :)

I just picked up the 3pc wide mouth adjustable wrench set w/ cushion grip handles for $9.98. They're heavier, tighter, and nicer than the HF Pittsburgh set I have. I had the 6pc set of long reach pliers in my hand, but changed my mind. If I didn't already have the regular 10pc Gearwrench sets in SAE & metric, I would have picked up the 8pc reversing sets for $35 or $40 each. I also like the 110pc pass-thru socket sets marked down to $75.

If they're replacing Kobalt with rebadged HF stuff, I'd guess it's the Pittsburgh Pro stuff. I have the extendable ratchets, 1/2" drive Torx set, and a 16pc 1/2" drive SAE socket set that are all pretty nice looking and feeling, and fit tight on fasteners. If you haven't seen it you wouldn't think it's HF stuff.
