Lowes stocking Craftsman individual tools yet?

I have a bunch of older C-man stuff, mostly all USA made. Sears was always the easy route to warranty if something broke, but my local big-box Sears closed the doors a few months back. My local Sears hometown store has a big "Available" sign out front. I thought they were closed.

I had the tip snap off of a 1/8" flathead the other week so I ran out to Lowes, to find that they don't have any individual tools available, just multiple tool kits or power tool kits. At least at my store. Basically the same stuff that showed up around Father's Day, plus the new 20v power tools.

Turns out the Hometown store was still open, and they took care of me. But once they're gone, what's the easy route?

Craftsman's website says that Lowes will be an over-the-counter exchange - but I fail to see how if they don't stock individual tools.

The one I shop at has individual tools, so does Ace hardware.
The ones that walked away somewhere I replaced for a good price on ebay.

You can order individual Craftsman tools online through Lowes.com. If an individual can do this, I'm sure the store could too. Ask them to order you a replacement, then have them send it to you. Maybe they will do it that way? Register with them for free shipping.

I think the 1/8" Craftsman I saw on their website was less than $4.00, or maybe just over that price.

Good to hear - mine must just be behind the curve on getting stocked up. But, even their Kobalt supply had dwindled down to not a lot of individual selection. Might just be the way of things, at least local to me.

My local lowes has converted a 25 foot rack to all craftsman, open stock and otherwise. Any size socket you'd like, extensions, ratchets, etc.

Of the 3 Lowe’s I’ve been to in Cincinnati, only one had single 36 tooth ratchets for sale, otherwise everything else handtool related was just sets.

The 1/4” Drive is $19.99, the 3/8” is $19.99 and the 1/2” is $24.99. Prices seem a bit steep for clunky, outdated ratchets made in China. I was also scratching my head as to why the 1/4” and 3/8” are the same price online and in-store. The 1/4” should be $14.99.

or Big F****** Empty...

I haven't seen any individual stock locally aside from adjustables, pliers, and tape measures.

I wouldn't bother trying to warranty old US- made Craftsman stuff, but that's just me.

Interesting how nobody wants open stock Craftsman to actually buy something. They just want to be able to warranty individual items.

I am thinking a lot of stores will not have open stock Craftsman mechanical tools for that exact reason

Local Rona (home improvement store) has a large display of Craftsman tape measures. Picked up a US made 16' auto locking tape today. Lots of red power tools, tool boxes and mechanics sets. Doubt Rona will ever have open stock tools. Individual Lowes stores to replace the Kobalt line maybe.

Me too. But eventually they will have to stock individual tools because of the pure price they paid for Craftsman. They need to use the name to sell stuff.

My two local stores only have the sets and a few cordless tools.

I did notice sets of long pattern wrenches, with gearwrench style surface drive open ends. Taiwan made. They looked really good... But they were only in small sets that had skips and stopped at 18mm IIRC... No actual real sets up to 19 and no skips.

Seems idiotic to me

No open stock stuff in my local store yet. That may change since the area is down to one remaining Sears store, and even that one is probably on shaky ground as the mall it resides within has become maligned by crime.

Woodstock Virginia?! Seriously?

I remember that town. Was there about 15 years ago driving through. Bizarre little place. Twilight zone material.

Had a couple gas stations, hotels & fast food...a Walmart roughly 17 churches and one bar which was in my hotel. Strange days indeed.

There are no individual tools in my nearest Lowes which is about 40 minutes away, Mt Olive NJ. Honestly don't think they stock individual Kobalt stuff, even single screwdrivers or ratchets. Certainly not sockets.

I asked Santa for single craftsman stuff for Xmas, basically pliers to go in the truck box. Or maybe I asked Satan... Or was it Santana? Always getting them confused this time of year... I think it's the hats.

Ok ok. It was actually Mrs Claus. Aka mom.

She doesn't know much about tools aside from snap on, CM and Stanley. Can't send her on some wild chase or ask for a $40 pair of needle nose. Not for the truck anyway.

Even if they're rebadged Stanley which I think they are I'm sure they'll be fine for my purposes & better then the beat up harbor junk in the truck box right now.

So yes some of us want single pieces not for warranty.

My local Lowes only has sets so when I took in a split 1/2"dr. 7/8" 6-pt to exchange I was directed to the Return desk where there was an index-card-sized flip book showing what they sell, what they don't, and the Sears number to call. No offer to order or help in any other fashion.

I called the Sears CS number and gave her the part number stamped on the side of my USA-made socket. I was told it's out of stock and no replacements are available. WTF?
I didn't complain because she then said she was sending me a 10-pc set that included the 7/8 I needed. I have a suspicion I'll be receiving a set of WRENCHES from this dimwit, but for free--I'm cool with it.

Next stop is ACE. I know they have an enormous warehouse for stuff they don't stock in the store--and they know how to use it.

Oh and she also told me after the first of the year ALL the Lowes will be getting individual stock.
T/F I have no idea...

Probably smart to push the sets & clearance Stanley & Kobalt stuff during the Christmas season.
