Yes, but you have to keep it charged. Mine (3 different brands) seem to hold a charge for about 6 months but I still check them all once a quarter.

I bought a JNC 660 in 2020, and the battery is already toast due to not being kept charged. Holds 12V, but no current to start anything. Did not charge it regularly during Covid times

Put a note on my calendar in 3 months to cycle on the 12V deep cycle batteries (charger, e-light, 2x UPS) to avoid this problem in the future

I bought one on black Friday special and have been very happy with it. At the time, I had two very infrequently used vehicles and was always having to jump one.

I have the GB40. it has worked great and started 4cyl with a dead battery multiple times on a charge. But on my V8, it would not jump it, in fact I didn't even hear it turn over once. so for small engines its very handy. But if you have a V8 look elsewhere. I also used it to jump my EV when the 12v died and it worked on that also, but it could only do it twice before it was dead.

NOCO Boost Plus GB40 1000 Amp boost starter.
I made the mistake of buying a quantity of them at a tool show.
I sell tools for a living and these I had to dispose of!
Every one of them came back faulty especially where there are used intensively.

I notice a competitor has discontinued them also.
I am not certain of the reasons but I had heard several customers noting the short life on car sales lots.
Like six months!

I like the Farm guy tests. I think the GB40 would be small, but you have to be patient with the smaller ones. Give them 5-10 minutes on the bad battery before trying to start the motor. I have a JNC lithium pack that is probably between the GB40 and the next GB model up and it will do smaller engines without a hassle, like 2 to 3L. I also gave the GB150 that is much bigger and more expensive though I bought it on sale. It will do twice the displacement with no hassle. Probably if I was more patient, and let the jumper do its thing for longer before starting, I would have better results. I am used to the instantaneous jumping with jumper cables or a 20lb lead acid jumper pack.

It can be handy and save a lot of money . But it is not cheap and can die after a few months. When you look at a dead battery pack and realize that you could have used the money to buy some nice tools from your favorite brand, it is not great feeling.

So it’s a cost benefit tradeoff. For me, I decided that buying it is not worth it. But if my circumstances change, I might buy one instantly. So just do the calculation yourself

If you're at home when you need to jump a vehicle most often, the plug in chargers with ~100 amp engine start are the way to go. They will last a lifetime, be able to top up and maintain batteries, and save you in a pinch from a battery that won't start a vehicle.

my post from another thread:
I have the Noco GB40 and the comparable Audew. Both will start a 2.7L Tacoma with the vehicle and jump pack at 30F, and the truck's battery disconnected. They will barely do it, but they will do it. And they will do it 3-4 times (the most I've tried) one after another and then recharge in about an hour. It's amazing that something so small can start a vehicle's engine.

Another GB40 owner. Guess I got a good one because, contrary to Project Farm and Amazon, its been great, even starting a small V8 a couple different times. Ive had it several years. NOCO seems to take safety seriously. They did have an issue with some of the early ones swelling, but as far as I know that has been addressed.

GB40 and GB70 here... My 70 can sit for six months and still jump my subaru. I have the 40 for backup. our cars sit now since 100% work from home. Bunch of really cold weeks in a row. Our cars need some help.

We also have Noco genius to trickle charge them if needed.

I actually mounted a Noco genius behind the seat on my cub cadet lawn tractor. I keep it plugged in all winter. Never an issue since.

If you are a Costco club member, they have the NOCO GBX Boost X 1250A Jump Starter for $99.99. I just saw it here in Southern California.
I just checked Costco's online store and it shows no NOCO products at all. Not all Costco stores carry the same products.

I just used my GB40 to jump a Mazda 3. Took 3 tries got it started. I noticed that it is now swollen looks like the battery went bad. something seemed off as I had to use the overide button. I guess these things don’t last, I bought it in 2016, got 6 years out of it.

My local Costco has the NOCO GBX Boost. No info on the box nor on the Costco website. Only learned it was 1250A from this thread. I’ll pick one up tomorrow

I have a GBX45 that I carry on the snowmobiles in case we have a dead battery. I have had to use it three times this year and it worked great on that small engine, even at below zero. I have also used it on a 5 liter V8 a few times with no problems. I think this is the second winter with it, maybe third.

I also have the GB155 which is 4,000 amps I believe. I haven't found anything it will not start. I have several large diesels that need to be cold started in the winter and it always does it.

What I like about the GOOLOO, is the lithium polymer battery.

Strange that there is no amp information on the package 0E16A70D-3E18-46DE-AC02-D5568B3D3D4A.jpeg

I bought a GB40 for the kid's college car. Hopefully she'll never have to use it unless a light gets left on accidentally. Then she'll call for instructions. Small enough to fit in the spare tire well. The JNC Air was too bulky and big for her to handle.

I have the GB150 and its great. But then I wanted something to keep in my car all the time.
I tried the GB40 and it works just fine in my Toyota. I check/recharge them 2 times a year to be sure they are full.
For jokes I tried the GB40 on my Chevy Express Van with the V8 that the battery was super dead and it was like -10c outside and it was able to start it. After that I bought one for each family members car. Very cool tool for size

Since someone asked and I can't find the original, and perhaps not that helpful, answer, the screws on the GB40 (well, mine) are labelled by iFixit as a triangular #2. It's not immediately obvious on iFixit's web site so Noco might have a patent on it, who knows.

Had a completely drained 90's truck where the battery read 4 volts. The NOCO GB40 couldn't start it but the with JNC 660, it started right up.
