I picked up a vintage Mac MB920, and MB 903? toolbox today. But one of the rails inside the box at the top is totally broken. Has anyone encountered this? If so how do you repair it?

Perhaps you can cut out the piece all twisted up, straighten it, and weld it back in there, or have someone do it for you. Tig weld would probably be best I'm thinking.

That happens because the metal was worn thin.
If you cannot, buy the piece from Mac, then you have to make,it

I have a brake and a bead roller and can make that

They are worn through, as above. When new, they look something like the photo and can be made if need be. If you cut a strip of 18 Ga. metal it can clamped against a piece of bar stock and the edges bent up with a hammer. If the spot welds on the old one are drilled out, you can attach your new piece with sheet metal screws. Usually there is enough clearance for the screw heads.

I did this a few years ago and it worked out OK.

I like that idea a lot. I'm guessing a metal fabrication shop would have the supplies needed to get me going.

Does anyone know if Mac has these rails in stock?

Couple year update: Shortly after this post I contacted Mac. They messaged me back asked for model #, they had them in stock and shipped them out to me! I drilled out old spot welds and welded new ones in place. Works good as new. It's amazing to have a company that still has parts in stock nearly 40 years after the fact! Something to be said about this versus fly by night companies.
