My mac guy is awesome. He warranties everything on the spot. I guess he keeps his truck very well stocked as I have never had to wait on a warranty. He doesn't bad mouth any other dealer. He doesn't push **** on you that you don't want. He is as professional as they come.

Funny how regional these things are....I LOVE LOVE LOVE my MAC guy. GREAT Guy, I cant and wont say a single bad thing about him.
SnapOn on the other hand...Complete joke in my area. Just last Wednesday I had submit a request to Snappy to have a Franchisee call me to warranty a socket I broke..i know i could have done it all via mail, but I wanted to get on the truck to blow a few extra bucks burning a hole in my pocket....By Friday afternoon I had gotten tired of waiting so I called Snappy cust. service (who was excellent BTW...credit where credit is due) and she looked it up and told me the reason I hadnt heard anything is there used to be 3 dealers in the area, all 3 have been "Termed" is what she told me. So I cant ***** about the SO guy...I dont even have access to a SO truck. Excellent MAC Guy + No SnapOn at all...decision is very simple.
Telling my MAC guy all this, he even went as far as to say "If you dont get your Snappy socket taken care of, bring it to me, i'll warranty it for you"

Just the nature of the beast when each franchise is independently owned & operated. I've often said, any of the brands would be 50x better off making the trucks "Branches" and drivers "Employees" and being able to exert much more control & consistency across the footprint.

of all the MAC guys I have had they have alternatedl good bad good bad etc... the last one was bad so hopefully (1) we even have a mac guy at my new job and (2) he's a good one. IDK who if any tool guys come by this new shop I am going to.
I may have to rely on toolmen near home and do my tool dealings from home after/on way home from work... I know the current Matco guy lives near me and I think this MAC guy does too.
that said i have never dealt with this MAC guy but I know a guy who is one he went to high school w / my brother and is based outr of my home town problem being is my hometown is 35 miles from where I am now and farther than that, from where i will be working

I do occasional business with the MAC guy because I've known him for a long time and he is a great guy. Warranty takes forever with MAC and even though the SO guy is an a***ole that you have to watch like a hawk to make sure he doesn't overbill or double bill you, I prefer SO tools so I deal with the a***ole.

The theme of "takes forever warranty" popped up alot in this thread...can you guys elaborate? :headscrat
I've warrantied a few tools off the MAC truck, if he had it on the truck it was an instant swap, the other 2 items I got the following week because he had to order em in.
Heck he offered to warranty my SO socket with a MAC one on the spot....

I don't know. My MAC guy has always taken week. If he had it on the truck, he has always swapped it. He even warranteed a few Snap On tools for me, including impact tools like air ratchets and wrenches.

Here there in no mac. I had a ratchet that was stripped so i called mac. What a joke !! The lady said they would send me a repair kit but it never showed up. So i called them and they said oh it has to be approved before they can send it out !! I have no idea many times i called. But eventually i got the kit and guess what the plate that holds the guts in was wrong. The holes did not line up. The whole thing wlas completely wrong so i took some old parts and redrilled holes and made it fit. No impressed at all. No way i would ever buy another mac !! We even have a mac socket in our shop that was not made right total junk. My money goes to snappy and matco

I just bought a locker for my 1900 box and hutch combo. It's Mac tools dealer conference in Dallas (I think) and I got a screaming deal on it. here in a couple of weeks...I hope the hutch took 6 weeks.

like I said in my earlier post. Took almost a year for our mac guy to replace a broken flex head ratchet. A few other tools like a 1/2in socket that cracked took a few months. A week or 2 is perfectly acceptable. But any longer and mac needs to get on the ball.

My issue is that In the past ten years MAC does really bad in my area. We have gone through around 7 dealers including a woman with a Ford Taurus. Now the the woman with the Ford Taurus was actually a great dealer but the quality of tools is so inferior to what they used to be its difficult to sell them. Almost 50% of the tools are rebranded tools from their sister companies at ridiculous mark ups. I have a 24oz dead blow ball peen that is exactly the same as their Stanley for almost half price. Same with my 32oz ball peen antivibe. This doesn't just go for hammers. My impact driver set Proto is the exact same as the Mac tools version for a quarter of the price from toolup.com there are countless examples. I love my old MAC tools and it bothers me that if they do break they are going to be replaced with inferior tools. Now on the other hand with SO I have had both amazing and terrible dealers. My uncle is a service manager at a Ford dealer and their SnapOn guy stole an oil filter out of the parts cabinet. Need less to say he was fired. unfortunately my uncle never reported him. I have had good dealers though. The saving grace for snapon is that their customer service over the phone absolutely can not be beat. The quality of their products is over all top notch. The prices are all steep but as a dealer based tool company my best luck has been cornwell for professional dealers. Quality tools and quality dealers.

I bought a used ratchet from a pawn shop and the first time I used it the switch pawl broke off. I had used the head of the ratched as a hammer to knock a bolt out of a piece of farm equipment (yeah, yeah, but I was 100 yards from anything more suitable), which was the likely cause of the failure, and I told them this when I called. I asked about getting it repaired--at MY expense--and they simply asked me to send it in. I had a new one in less than a week. I had even told them I bought it used. I still feel guilty over the whole thing--but they insisted.

They have the same tools that they've always had, but there's some Taiwan tools on the side. Read the catalog and familiarize yourself with their product line; that way you can assure yourself that your traditional MAC tool will get replaced with another traditional MAC tool.

I had replaced a 3/8 6pt 14mm shallow impact socket that split. When I revived the new one through the mail it was a different socket made in Taiwan. I called and asked if there were different lines of tools and I was told that there wasn't a premium socket and that it was the exact replacement for the part number. I have said this before on this thread. About 12 years ago I would have told anyone the best tools in the world were Mac Tools I would now not buy Mac tools unless I had no other option. I feel the quality is not of tool truck quality anymore. Ever since they starting putting the checkered pattern on the metric sockets I feel it has gone down hill.
