Great Build, Like the statement where you were surprised that they allowed you to build a triple, should have tried for a quadruple. I know the feeling.

Thank you for posting, 47P2. That has been s very interesting read for me. When you have time and don't mind, could you post a picture or two of the general area where you live, to put the garage in context for me. I live so far away.

Best,

Andy

Just read through the thread.
Great build and some clever additions and ommisions.
Love your walls of honour for the "Stuff"

Looking at your loft area, I suspect I will be redoing mine some time. At the moment it is a mishmash of allsorts of planks, boards etc.

@ reddog289
I really do wish I had applied for a larger garage, they could only have said no and the cost would have been not a lot extra as it would only be a few concrete block on one wall, some extra slate for the roof and concrete for the floor.

@ abstamaria
I stay in Glasgow, Scotland, this is a Google shot of the plot which must have been taken around 2 years ago. From the road to the garage is 100 feet. Hope this helps.

@Grizz1963
Glad you enjoyed reading the thread. A mate of mine asked if I would build him a garage, but I declined, this is my one and only.....

Nice one, i thought the council would be pretty arsey about planning permission on something that size, in saying that i would be looking to do one on a semi detatched property (which i still have to buy lol) so probably way less space to play with than yourself, but i was looking probably more around a wood framed 20x20 or 20x25 due to costings

what part of Glasgow are you in? over in Barrhead myself

The planning department were fine, the ar5ey inspector who insisted on a slate roof was a pain in the **** so once I started the build I enquired as to having a tiled roof and was told to fill out a form and pay £150.00 and they would consider it. No chance, the slates are now on and they will stay. Oddly enough the 10 trees that required the chop were never mentioned at any time during negotiations.

I stay 5 minutes the other side of Silverburn from you. Had an uncle who stayed in Clyde Avenue, Barrhead. He used to take me fishing and fresh water oyster fishing up the dams

what was the reason for not allowing tile? having to fit to the look of the rest of the property? its a really nice size for something in the uk, kinda my ideal size in my opinion, i take it you also like to do a bit of detailing if your over on DW as well?, have only recently went back on DW a few weeks ago....as i tend to go through phases with most things lol

That Google earth pic of your place. just inspired me to get my 16 year old genius to come play on this PC and make me a pic of where we are.
I will add it to my garage thread as it puts things into a bit of perspective.

Great build and well documented too.Slate roof looks really good.I'm using slate too but reclaimed Scottish slate. That means no two are the same shape/size/thickness.Seeing as I've never slated a roof before,it'll probably look like ****!:lol_hitti

@ weegaz, they reason for no tiles was as you say to keep it in keeping with the street, only problem is all the houses on my side of the street are tiles of one sort or another, my own being Rosemary tiles from the 1930s. The houses across the road are slate, but what that has to do with anything is beyond me. As I said the ar5ey inspector never had a clue, but the job is completed now and I'm more than happy with it.

@ kaill, yes we are multiplying in numbers, who knows maybe some day we will rule the world :lol_hitti

@ Grizz, Google earth and go to 'Earth' view, you can then pan over the area as if you were flying overhead

@ Mark, plenty info on the internet for slating a roof, read as much as you can then go back and re-read it all again, it's not as difficult as you think. The slate you have is it Ballachulish slate or most likely one of the Easdale quarries slate from Seal Island?

Yeah,it's Ballachulish slate with the iron pyrite running through it.I would have mentioned it but,I couldn't remember how to spell it!LOL
A couple of roofers I've spoken to said they won't work with it as the dimminishing courses are too labour intensive.I'll give it a go though!Anything to save a few quid.
Sorry if you've mentioned it before but,did you retore the Rover yourself? If so,looks like you did a great job.Lovely looking car.

The Rover was restored almost 30 years ago by Royce Cole in Australia and took him over 8 years to complete.

Latest addition to the garage is an Audi A8L 3.0tdI SE Quattro seen here under the ramp

Very nice build 47p2 and built to last I might add!! Real craftsmen style and neat old school building you do there in the UK

Thanks mebedave, not bad for a first attempt. I still can't believe I did most of it myself.

I'm in the south side of Glasgow

Great place! I even like the fishing equipment as 'decorations!'
SWMBO was complaining about my fishing equipment in the attic, so I thought it would look good as a decoration on the garage wall

Nice garage :) I really love that Classic of yours :)
She is a wee bit special:thumbup:

Managed to obtain another Rover sign last year, so today I fitted a lamp behind it, I just need to insert a fillet of wood to stop the light shining through from behind

Been following your thread over on DW for what seems like forever, didn't know you has a thread here and found myself reading it all over again
Any reason you missed out the pics of your dog that were included in the DW thread?

Not sure the dog would have fitted in the same over here.

For those interested here he is, almost 13 years old and playing with my 10 month old granddaughter

Hallo Mate,

As mentioned above, your progress is great.

I love the Rover signs lighting, you got it spot on.

Sat in the Cotswolds in a small hotel where Nicola has brought me for my birthday as I will not be home on the day.

It is 1'C outside, but I guess far off your weather the last few weeks.

Dog and baby look perfectly matched.

Same question here about the roof as ZRX61. Also, is that the standard way of building a garage in over there (brick walls...wood frames?) Very different then over here in the States. Very cool and classie!

Cheers Grizz, nice part of the world you are in, hope you enjoy it

May be a daft question, but why didn't you use plywood instead of those planks on the roof?

The traditional way of slate roofing in Scotland is to use sarking board. It is much better at flexing than plywood and better at expanding and contracting with the different temperatures, but the main reason is that it is a heck of a lot easier to nail the slates onto sarking board than plywood.

For a garage this size concrete blocks as I have used are the norm.

Beautiful job! The pavers in the yard look very good. I'm inspired.

Glad you like them, sadly not my handy work though as there was almost 400sqM, a bit too much for me to take on

Stunning build And a nice collection of cars a well.

Thanks
