Well, guess it's a good thing I used my reward points for the Vevor drill; I just had to use $278 of "real" money for a replacement starter for my old Case 580B

SteveYeah, kinda - but mine's got a serial # that appears not to exist - and in that era some of the 188 diesels had a 9 tooth starter gear, others had 10, and still others had 12.
Wasn't the easiest removal without cracking too many lines, finally got it out just before dusk, then after supper I wiped the starter gear down dry in one tooth area and blackened a tooth, then counted all the NOT marked ones, added one, magic number is 9.
I might be able to resurrect the old one, but typically I need it running day before yesterday so if I can fix the old one later, there's nuthin' wrong with having a spare for anything you actually NEED.
Know whatcha mean about cost; there's a couple of canadians on another site that bore weld bearing surfaces on mine shovels, it's amazing the precision they can do on bearings that measure in feet plus or minus .001", and machines that cost several Million$.
Gotta keep my little 11,000 # toy going, I've got pretty much all the hydraulics gathered up to finish up a 3 axis articulated hydraulic sickle bar cutter (Mrs Bukit planted 'WAY too many privacy hedges on our 10 acre place when we bought it in 1978, now guess who gets to keep 'em at bay) - oh well, good excuse for another fun project, right??!? ... Cool, best of luck; I gotta admit, their referring to speed as "PRM" has me a tiny bit nervous but I'm looking forward to being wrong.

My Hougen gets used on my "shrine" probably 80% of its life -
This is the XY table I used, bought it a long time ago for about HALF what they want now.

Both axes are 10 TPI, makes it easy to space holes identically (as long as you remember taking out the slop the same direction every time ) - example - you want holes on 1-1/2" centers? Drill, handwheel 15 turns, drill,,, Steve

Most of those mag drills mentioned spin too fast.
My Champion AC50 goes down to 300 rpm.

Actually you have that backwards--the larger cutters require slower speed.

Well...if it turns out that it's a POS I'll just return it find a used Slugger or Hougen.

Got it yesterday. I must say the construction of it is pretty impressive.The outside of the box was beat to sh*t but double layer protected drill...not a scratch.Be warned...if you order this Amazon may give you incorrect tracking numbers. I received notice that it was delivered even though I was home all day.Turned out that it was somebody else's package.Got my drill next day...different tracking number.
I forgot how nice the paint job looks on a new mag drill. It won't last long!Got it yesterday. If you've not used a mag drill before (or probably even if you HAVE) do yourself a favor (unless you already did) and download this
And at LEAST read page 13 - (that can improve your results on ANYBODY's cutters) - I've no doubt that's a lot of why some of my cutters have well over 100 holes on 'em and are STILL SHARP. Oh, add page 15 to the list, refers to "pecking", another "no-no"... Steve

I took your advise and downloaded all 3 guides on the Hougen website. I will be sure to read them thoroughly. The box that my drill came in looked like it was beaten with a baseball bat, but was unscathed inside.
I have one of those Vevor mag drills. Mine came with a set of annular cutters but it does not have a speed control. Both the drill and the cutters work pretty damn good considering the price and my intended usage. (minimal occasional use) I would certainly recommend to anyone looking for an inexpensive mag drill.

All that smoke confirms that the annular cutter is spinning way too fast for its size, which will drastically shorten the cutter's life.

Decent deal on a Champion on Amazon Warehouse. Doesn't look like a deal next to these vevors but your mileage may vary.

You usually get what you pay for. My Champion AC50 is a beast. I paid $650 for it, used, on oBoy. And you really do need the slower RPM for anything but the smallest holes.
I ordered the Velvor variable speed one.
Said yesterday and Thursday it would be delivered Friday by 8pm with UPS.
This posting reminded me about it and nothing came yesterday. Check Amazon and it was shipped from Ontario, CA (California?, Canada?) on Thursday to Kentucky and arrived there yesterday afternoon.
Uhhh... Kentucky to my door in ~5 hours would be rather impressive!
I'm not in a rush, just made me laugh a bit. I ordered it on the 12th. Now saying delivery on the 25th.

There is an Amazon hub in Ontario Calif, so maybe that's where the in stock unit was..... Closest to AK, at that point.

Keep a watch on it.In my case Amazon supplied me with the wrong tracking number. If you get a notice that it was delivered, but it was not start a claim with UPS immediately.Vevor,Aliexpress and Amazon will not be of any help.Even though Amazon shipped it, because it is not an Amazon order they will have no record of it.UPS contacted me within an hour and believe it or not supplied me with the name and address of the wrong numbered package.I found her phone number and called.She had received her package and it was legit.The next morning I received notice of a delivery and the drill showed up under a different tracking number.I also had to sign for it.All because Amazon's shipping is screwed up.By the way...my drill went from NJ to Kentucky to Ohio, back to NJ then MA and finally Maine.Efficiency at it's best

Subtract 4 hours of time zone change, and it’s close. The UPS plane doesn’t have to go thru Denver or Dulles.
I have had the same drill for almost 40 years. Fantastic quality tool but far too large for most jobs and depends on uninterrupted power to run magnet (so always has to be tethered and tied off). I long ago added a Milwaukee 4274-21 plug in with PM base. It fits many places where old B&D just can't and is a lot safer (plus will drive annular cutters).Reverse is nice if you want to tap holes such as in a welding table. The newer light weight drills are hard to beat pricewise. My mag drill is an old school B&D like this oneand weighs 106 lbs.
BUT: even the Milwaukee tool is often too large, and I too have been struggling with the question of Vevor vs. Fein. We have some Fein tools, and the quality is unquestionable. Also actually trust Vevor to deliver good value for the money. As others have pointed out: once you have a mag drill, you will find all kinds of things you can do with it that you never imagined before. Pretty much replaces a Radial Arm Drill for most small and mid size holes. I am stuck where OP is because I KNOW a much smaller tool will be used a fair bit, but can I justify 3x or more the price?
