I have a set of magnetic nutsetters made by VIM that are an absolute godsend for interior work... ya know, where you drop that fastener and it falls into the abyss in a dash, never to be seen again. Of course those are typically low-torque fasteners, I don't have a solution for sockets but those Gearwrench extensions look promising. FWIW the VIM bits have held up quite well, as I lose them (looking at you 7s and 10s) I've been replacing them with Wera. I buy those sizes in five or ten packs to have spares that will inevitably be needed.

I have 2 sets of the craftsman magnetic inserts but have never once used them.

I recently got a lot of mac, easco, and other tool truck brand sockets in an auction lot, all of the impacts had springs and magnets in them. I had to pry them all out. all they do is collect rust and crud and make it hard to use. I have the same problem with the magnetic 1/4" nut driver bits for the cordless drill. sure they hold the self tapping screws in easier, but once there is swarf in there you're screwed...

While we're on the subject here's a snap-on magnetic wrench clip that clips onto any wrench to get your fastener started in tight spots. I have the magnetic extensions from snap-on also.

I bought a few things after reading this. The Koken Nut Grips are fantastic I got a 7 piece Metric. I showed my neighbor who is a mechanic he wants to order a set now he has always used the grease and paper towel trick before.

I got a set of Sunex 1/4 impacts magnetic they are great as well.
However, I got a set of Sunex Magnetic extensions, I do not like them, the magnet is
not really strong enough it could drop a bolt and they will not hold a nut on.
The magnet also gets in the way of alot of socket can't firmly seat them I cannot recommend these, one of the few tools I regret buying. I could return them, but I hate to do that to Cripe probably just try to resell cheap.

I cashed in my Speedy Reward points and got a $25 amazon gift card
picked up a Vim Nutsetter set NS100 that is awesome highly recommend it.

I prefer "Nut Grip" type sockets like Koken sells. Retain full depth of socket, doesn't pick up ferrous debris, works on non magnetic (SS) fasteners...

To anticipate my once in a while "needs", I purchased Grey Pneumatic 1/4" dr impact socket set.

I probably will use them on 1/4" dr rackets instead of impact when the space is tight.

Thanks GJ for more tools.44ccfb4d39d965ffff565d7953d2c99c.jpg032fefb396ac553af1faeceffb677e74.jpg93676b4dacec3b775fc73b6dacf14ec9.jpg
