A little step forward with a project I completed after work today...

Here was the house before, and this fall we added the covered patio.

The OSB was not very attractive looking at all and not going to be weather resistant.

Here it is today after I added a waterproof membrane and then some boards. Tried out my new brad gun that shoots 2 inch and 1.5 inch brads. Works great, also got a new compressor which also works perfectly. Tons of work going on inside the house but I will wait till it is all done before I show it off...

Next I am building a bar and adding the same wood treatment to inside of the wall. Even the pressure treated uprights will be covered up by the same wood then I will stain it all:

Progress! All these pics were taken today...

Got the outdoor gantry lift setup!!! This is going to help me in the removal of the cube after the shingles are removed from the back. I used some 1/4 inch thick steel to make gussets for this! Ready rod bolts it all together ...

$20 got me this huge piece of wood! A whole bunch of Cedar 2X4 boards glued together and planed down. I thought it was worth $120!!

New shirt!

http://vidmg.photobucket.com/albums/v732/seanbuick76/Mobile Uploads/IMG_17341_zpsiyudgoig.mp4

Cutting a bed frame up to make a grounding post for the electric fence the renter is setting up for his dog:

Always use two hands on the grinder and stay out of the line of fire!

I need to drive the cube van to the dump but the door will not shut because the OSB wood is in the way... The shingles are too heavy so I drilled a bunch of 1/2 inch holes in the OSB and broke it off... Closes now!

Moves some vehicles around to make room for the carport foundation build:

Need a custom length tow strap??? LONG ratchet straps are perfect!

Making a lot of good progress, glad to see you are getting your plans in motion. Did you put the shop build off you had though about starting this year?

Thanks, yes I have postponed building the larger carport shop for now and doing the carport off the side of the house for now. The biggest reason is uncertainty in the economics right now.

Understandable, keep after it and I'm sure you'll soon be able to have all that you will need for shop space, but maybe not all that you want. :)

I got the bar done today, now I just need to trim it out with the same boards as on the front.

Put up a fence... The neighbours have been SUPER nasty to deal to the point where we had to put a 6.5 foot high fence up. After the name calling and threats they made I took the high road and ensured my fence looks great on my side and TERRIBLE on their side.

I like the video action. LOL. Oh the fence... LOL now that's funny. The bar looks like a cool place to hang with a cool one.

Yes, all thread same thing.. A length of rod that has threads all the way down it and you can cut to length.

HUGE victory today the county dismissed the neighbours complaint that my fence is an "eyesore" and that I have too many vehicles....:3gears:

Got the winter tires off all the vehicles with the help of Shane. WOW i must say I need to build a few more sheds to hold all the strollers and kids stuff that is collecting in the garage!!!

He picked the right socket:

Then we fixed his bike:

Outstanding projects all around!! I really like the design of the covered addition.
Your photography is simply OUTSTANDING!!!

btw: What year is that black GMC truck? (the older one in one of the first photos). I had a cool 93 GMC that I took to Custom Conversion level and I drove it 200K miles without blowing it up. I love that body style.

Best Regards
Herb

Thank you very much for the kind words Herb!

I am doing the best I can, each day, baby steps forward....

The black one is a 1990 1500 4x4 with 1 ton axles and a roll cage inside the cab. My current plan is to use a 6.0 LS engine with a turbocharger and make it 2 WD and use it as an on road fun truck. I thought about building it as an off road beast but I really would not use it much for that and I loved my 1989 Stepside 2 WD but I hated how low it felt compared to my lifted daily driver... If I made it a 2 WD but left lifted a bit how it is it would certainly be a sleeper at the drag strip!

Here are more pics of it and the 89 I sold... That one had a 383 stroker and 5 speed manual! :3gears:

So did Shane get to take his training wheels off ? Won't be long now and he'll be trying to do tricks on the bike. My young bloke has gotten a lot of confidence on his little bmx bike in the last few months which is great to watch.

I hear you on the kids stuff related garage clutter.

Glad the neighbours got told to pull their head in.

Cheers GB

Mate, that 89 look soo good. Nice stance and I bet it went like a "cut cat".
Are you going to grab another chassis to do the 2WD conversion and then just do a body swap?

Hi Terrick, the plan is to leave the truck how it is but just run a 2 WD trans and rear driveshaft and leave it at the current height. There is a few reasons for this idea. First off I like the height of it now it looks cool, and I like riding down the road a little higher. Second the previous owner did so much good work to do the solid axle swap I would hate to rip it all off and lower it. This way myself or the next owner could convert it back to 4x4 easily... Plus I think if I have it 4x4 and do a turbocharged V8 I will be replacing front end parts and T cases like candy LOL. Making it 2 WD would be more reliable for laying down some big HP... Plus it would be a super sleeper, people would assume it was a slow 4x4 and then be surprised it is a turbocharged 2 WD street legal drag truck.

Reducing the rotational mass up front and not carrying around that extra weight will also help your fuel economy.

what he says. good thing you have a renter there. if not i bet there would be some vandalism.

jim

I considered that possibility however after they were served with a restraining order I have a pretty good feeling they will physically stay away... Of course they then resorted to phone calls and complaints to the county about me however that did not get them anywhere... I am a very reasonable person but they insist on drama and conflict... The kicker is that when I first bought the house they approached me and asked if they could run an extension cord over to their land to build their cabin... I didn't mind and they paid me back for the power so that was cool. As soon as their cabin was done they put it up for sale at about 50% over market value and then called the county complaining about my cars and lack of tree trimming, all without saying anything to me. Lots more drama over the years but I always avoided conflict and kept positive and having fun..... Till just recently when they lashed out and ended up in trouble with the law.

Moving onward and forward!

You could also do the neighbourly thing and set up a "foreclosure" sign out the front of their house????

Funny you mention that, these same people have another property close by and after a similar issue with their neighbor regarding the property line the neighbor paid $1500 to have a survey done and then put up a fence... These people then went AT NIGHT TIME and put up huge "No Trespassing" signs on their trees facing the guys yard. Picture a perfectly manicured 4 acre lot and beyond the fence was these ugly signs saying no trespassing the guy was pretty pissed off. Luckily the signs blew off in the wind over the years :lol_hitti

So the joke around town was that I should put the same type of signs on their side of the fence so they got a taste of their own medicine. :dunno:

You could always have a 3rd party try to buy the house from them and then get them out of your hair forever. I'm sure if they knew you were the 3rd party they wouldn't sell but if it is a real estate agent only referring to you as a client it may work. Food for thought.

I'm just trying to reduce the drama and live with a positive vibe so I'm not going to prevoke at all... Thier true colours are clear and everyone around us knows it. Now we can move on without them interfering...

I needed to remove these scrap engines from the yard so i used my little trailer and my portable winch with battery setup. Worked great:

My plan for the fence was to make the tops of the fence boards as straight across as possible and then use pressure treated 2x6 and more fence boards to fill in the bottom gap. I think it looks good:

Yes it was windy when I put it up LOL!!!

A sneak peak on what the renter is doing to fix up the kitchen... All the cupboards have been disassembled, the original hardware restored, and now it is time for paint.

I will un-viel the house once it is done.

Shane and I had to fix a hole in the drywall which he really enjoyed! Then we built a table top for an outdoor table at the little house. We used two 20 inch wide by 6 feet long pre fabbed pine boards. 1 inch angle iron for support on the underside and glued down the center.

The grass is looking pretty good! BBQ season!

Wall repairs look good. How much to do on the little house?

Thanks, I putting a coat of paint over the patch so I can see where I still need to do more "body work"... Because as you know what looks perfect without paint will certainly show imperfections once it's painted.

Not too much more to do on the little house, just bathroom flooring and some other odds and ends once the kitchen cupboards are done... The renter has been doing all the interior work as well as most of the yard work. It certainly is good for both of us, he enjoys the work. Today he was building more of the fencing around the yard.

Once it dries up a bit more we are going remove the cube off the van, move the deck onto the truck, and then remove the topsoil and then bring in crushed rock then gravel for the carport foundation.

We cut a few big trees down, they were too close to the power lines... 3more to come down.

Added more trim to the outdoor area:

Before, and after!

I setup the outdoor table, I will lower it a few inches and then attach it for good and stain it. It is a bit un-level and a little too high.

Fence is coming along

Great work on the fixes and improvements Sean. Had a good chuckle at the fence! Sorry to hear of your neighbour dramas, but sounds like you have an excellent tennant.
