Garage is looking good. Great organizational ideas. Saw basement windows with window wells in your pics; reminds me of homes back in Nebraska. People here in Phoenix are too dumb to have basements to escape the heat in.

Getting close to baby time, isn't it?

Thanks Ric, yes the basement is large and finished so it is my mancave #2... It is outfitted with some Lazyboy recliners, a huge TV, and good stereo. I also have my HO model train set down there too. Today it was really hot and Leanne being pregnant was extra hot so we watched a movie down there and it was perfect!

A quick video of my work in progress train set... I have had this since I was 5 when my dad built the table for me... He cut it in half and brought it to me as a housewarming present when we bought this house a few years ago! It folds up against the wall.

I felt bad for making two posts without progress pics so I went to the shop and whipped up two projects.

Project number one is a Cylinder head coral, to keep my spare heads off the floor and out of the way. I took a bunch of engines and spare heads to my little house but I like to keep enough parts to build 3 engines in case I have issues with the one in the Skylark....

I was able to angle the bottom piece of 2x4 so that the heads tilt back against the wall and the "coral" is not actually holding them against the wall just there in case the head were to tip forward... Once I got it built I decided to top it off with a quick removal 9.5" deep work shelf. Friction fit, no hinges or screws holding the top down.. Just pull it forward an inch and remove it. When weight is added to holds tighter so it will not accidentally come off. The top is made of my favorite medium duty materials that I use for shelving and work benches 3/8" plywood on top of 5/8" OSB, together they are pretty strong and low cost. The OSB gives the strength and the plywood gives a decent finish.

The second project was a table saw rolling table so that I can roll it around, level the table on un-even ground, and it is the same height as the 30" portable work stations that I will use as outfeed tables... The fixed feet adjust up and down about 1 inch. The handy little setup rolls under the miter saw table!!

About 1/8" clearance under there!!! I will take it, consider it a win!

Lookin good Sean Buick, lookin good!!! Congrats on the Buick being featured in the Barn Find. I should probably try and get my one owner Roadmaster in there. Hey, going to this, not far from you is it. (2500 miles/40 hours from me  ) http://www.kustomking.net/index.html I don't think I have ever seen so many convertibles and 2 door hard tops in a junkyard before. There's 2-3 fitty fo's I'd love to have but shipping would be stupid.

Good you had Leanne turn sideways, otherwise would have never know she was "with child". Congrats on that too.

Buick on brotha, Buick on

ps here is the Kansas barn find, Dora B, named after the gentleman's wife

Well, when I started I had a non insulated garage, with no heat, two light bulbs, one 15 amp breaker for the whole garage, and no shelving or work benches...

Almost all of the shortcomings have been addressed except the lighting and lack of power. So yesterday my father was in town visiting so we attacked the lighting and lack of power!

I went with 4 T-8 lights and added two 15 amp breakers and two extra receptacles. Now I can use my air compressor or other tools without overloading and tripping the breaker.

To avoid tearing the walls apart we just used some surface mount receptacle boxes and 14-3 wire so that we could get each receptacle on it's own circuit. Quick, easy, and functional.

For the lighting we used BX armoured wire so that we did not have to rip the walls apart.

Looking a LOT brighter:

The light switch was a gift from my parents for the nursery but it was a different type so we used it here in the garage:

My parents bought this license plate sign for me on a vacation in Mexico:

I also added this little shelf I made when I was a kid:

Today's progress:

I built a shelf for my little air compressor, and stored some stuff under the table. Up till now this was wasted space with a big dresser full of stuff. Got that stuff boxed up and out of the way:

I had this SFI flex-plate new in the box, and decided to screw it lightly to the wall for safe keeping.

Then I used some scrap and the box from the Flex-plate along with a few washers, screws, and duck tape to make a sticker board:

I had a few minutes free to build this simple little shelf:

Put my old hockey goalie trophy on the wall:

My sister in law made me the "jean leg bag holder" on the left side of the cabinet. I fill it with boot covers, so I can stomp in the house without taking off my work boots:

I couldn't help but take out the good engine to have a look at it, clean it and put it back for storage.

This one needs the crank removed and then hot tanked and measured for machine work needed. 35,000 original miles from a 73 Century:

I added a little bracket on the door of the shed so that I could rest wood along it for the chop saw:

The main work bench is also an out feed table:

Awesome Buick Sean. Looks great. Did you build the air snorkel?. Andy

Thanks, I love the buick! I bought it for $800 after i sold my 68 Chevelle SS... I wanted to go faster and the velle was too nice to modify.

No I did not fab up the turbo system or the carb hat, I hired a good friend to build them....

For old times sake here is the Velle:

My next move is to remove the wheels, and rebuild the suspension and brakes so I needed somewhere to store the wheels from the car... So I added this nice storage rack, it is made by Mastercraft and is very sturdy. $59 on sale from $99, so Leanne approved!

I found this cool old picture of the 75 from a few years ago when it was in storage in my barn... The 75 is now road worthy and ready to drive next summer it looks like:

This is the 75 Regal back about 9 years ago when I bought it and trailered it home with my little Dakota:

Marriage and baby meant giving up the cars for me, but it's been fun catching up the past dozen years. Keep it up!

Neat train setup. Our youngest son. Graeme, has 11 HO and N guage train sets in our storage shed. He was really into them before the video game bug hit.

I am sorry to hear that you had to give up the cars when you were younger, but I am super happy for you getting back into it!

I am super blessed to have a supportive wife, Leanne encourages me to keep working on my cars. There is no doubt that things will slow down a bit with the baby however the show will go on...

I have a publishing deal for a book I am writing about Buick engine performance, so I have a good reason to keep working on my projects....

The other blessing in my life is my best friend Josh who rents my little house off us..... He is a good mechanic and I can get him to work on my cars or trucks and pay him in the form of reduced rent....

Trains are a lot of fun, I think. My setup was built for me by my father when I was young, so it will be cool to use it with my future kids! I plan to teach the kids how to assemble and build the buildings and landscape, it was a lot of fun for me....

Just read through you 'Barn Finds', I've always been fascinated by these. Nice work!

Thanks, I really like the barn find stories too! My stories are not super interesting but others on the site are super cool!!!

Todays update... Added a 20" deep 8' long fold up work bench. That brings me to 38 feet of workbench in this 26X26 garage. I used two 2x10 that I salvaged from a construction dumpster, 6 hinges, and some 2x4 that I had around. It is really sturdy and only took me an hour to build. The 1x2 that ties the legs together also hold the bench up against the wall!

I am really liking the idea of a fold up work bench for here as well after seeing what you have done.

Do you intend to put any thing on the top or just leave it as it is??

Regards

Thanks, it should work great for extra work space. I am planning on leaving the top alone and use it as much as possible to add patina.
