A somewhat better combination involves one gallon of white vinegar, two cups of Epsom salts and a quarter cup of "blue, original" Dawn dish soap. Epsom salt contains magnesium which combines with the acid in the vinegar to form a compound similar that that used in most weed killers that is more effective than using regular salt. The same goes for using blue Dawn over the green, antibacterial Dawn.

You're welcome. I've used it for a few seasons and I think it is better than Round-Up(tm). Only about a tenth the cost also. I will be waiting anxiously to see your first dyno results.

I found an orange bottle of 41% glyphosate concentrate at HD a month or so ago. Makes 21 gallons and cost about 15 bucks. Seemed cost effective to me. I would have half of that just buying pickling vinegar and Dawn.

Its back together and running well! Next weekend I am testing it on a private section of asphalt and then tuesday it hits hits the dyno to measure the hp.

The next videos will be action filled... Teaser here just idle to 3100 rpm

Here is a blast from the past! My friend bought this 1986 3 wheeler with just 25 hours on it... We rebuilt it and it was like new!

We went for a 2 hour ride on the atvs had a blast!

That's great. Been looking for something like this. How does it compare to round up? When I was a kid there was a television show on PBS that had this guy that made all these homemade solutions and all of them contained beer this soap vinegar and other stuff around the house to use on your garden and lawn. Fast-forward 30 years I don't know the guys name or any of the recipes.

His stuff is so neat, I want to buy the old "How to Keep Your Honda Alive" book for 70's/early 80's Honda cars, even though I don't have one and haven't worked on one since '87.

And I don't have a septic tank, but...

I tried the recipe that Ric suggested and it was successful with killing the weeds I had. So yes try it.

My house out in the country actually has a village septic system that pumps out to a lagoon in the area. My well water is good and passes all the tests we had done... So no fees for septic, no emptying a tank, and also no water bills. :beer:

Wow, the Buick is looking awesome! So... where are the dyno results/vids, or shouldn't I ask? Very impressed with your progress on the car, well done.

Dyno runs kept getting delayed due to either issues with the car or dyno scheduling. Aug 25th is the dyno day booked so mark it on your calendar...

Needless to say the garage has been put to test a lot lately with rebuilding a transmision for my truck (200,000 miles on this one) and will swap it in when the currebt one gives me an issue.

I also had to partially rebuild the engine in the buick due to finding sone weak links. Got the engine back together and running well again... The car is CRAZY fast its like a rocket ship!

Shane watched the whole time in the garage love this guy!

The first issue we had was a bad connection at the ignition distributor, found this issue ON the dyno while paying $ per hour and frustrated looking for why it would not rev over 3200 RPM under full dyno load. Took it home and found the electrical problem and fixed it. I soldered the connection myself $0 cost to fix.

Then during full throttle testing it blew a head gasket at 23 PSI of boost. Scaled the boost back to 20 PSI, added ARP brand head studs instead of the bolts that were holding the heads to the block. Studs are preferred fasteners especially in boosted applications. $20 for head gaskets and $80 for the studs.

The head gasket failure resulted in coolant getting into the oil, but I drained it within 5 minutes of this and then 3 oil changes after it was fixed so that any contaminated oil was removed from the engine. Coolant contaminated oil will cause engines to rust internally due to the moisture, if not flushed properly and quickly.

Blew an exhaust header gasket during another full throttle blast, turns out I had neglected to tighten one of the header bolts that can only be accessed from under the car so the gasket just blew out as nothing was holding the header flange tight to the gasket and head. $20 fix.

The engine itself is showing no signs of stress from the power, no noises or ticks or metal flakes in the oil. All cylinders are at 165-170 PSI compression tests and all showing under 4% leakdown tests. This is a 8.5:1 compression engine so the compression tests are right at what we would expect. This engine now has about 600 miles on it since it was last rebuilt, but now about 12,000 miles since it was originally rebuilt and turbocharged in 2000.

Seems like there are always trials to test you, even when you think you have covered all the bases. Sounds like there is a ton of potential. What kind of head gaskets blew out? Damn 4-bolt cylinder heads, haha. In my limited experience with the 3.8 turbo Buicks, we found that 26 pounds of boost would always blow the stock gaskets, but they would go forever at 25.5. A friends 1987 Regal T-Type ran 10.83 with nothing but bolt ons, bigger injectors and a chip. Totally stock longblock. Better luck next time. and give my best to your garage foreman.

Hi Ric,

Thanks for the insight!

This engine is using stock gaskets, but I feel the failure was caused by loose head bolts. The engine had 500 miles since rebuild however I do not think the head bolts were re torqued because they were all about 40 foot pounds tight upon disassembly.

I have some nice $200 head gaskets that I will use on my good engine down the road but for now i do not think the stock gaskets are the limiting factor. I only want 20 psi max anyway....

I am having a blast with the family and the Buick I feel very blessed!

My next post will be some successful dyno footage and burnout action for you guys...

Ah, frustrating! Glad it's just relatively minor teething issues, those always happen it seems. I'll be waiting for those dyno results!

I meant to ask you before - what paint were you using to brush on the frame, and what do you think of it? My Vette needs something similar done to tidy up and protect the frame.

I using rustolium gloss black... It sticks well and is durable.. Brushing it on by hand as it seems more economical than buying a bunch of cans of spray paint.

I use POR 15 anywhere there is rust then the rustolium over that... I wire wheel the surface to remove the loose stuff.... Wash with the POR brand marine cleaner, blow down with air, POR 15 paint on any rust then rustolium on everything. I do the same on my truck and just touch it up each year as needed.

That's a good idea, why didn't I think of that? I've used a close Australian equivalent (White Knight Rust Guard) for suspension parts for years, but always used the spray cans. I've not used it with a brush though, apart from some early experiments with a roller as per the famous Rustoleum roller paint jobs! I've also used it thinned and sprayed through a gun,which I personally found much easier and with better results than the roller method for bodywork. It's what I have on the f250. It's perfect paint for a work truck, touch up paint spray cans that blend perfectly are readily and cheaply available from any hardware store! I was interested to see you brushing, as that's going to be the only reasonably easy method of doing the Vette chassis with the car all together, and I hadn't considered it before.

Yes i am avoiding spraying so that I do not have overspray issues but it is way more time consuming using a brush... I will take some pics of how it turned out when it is on the dyno as it will be easy to see the underside.

Yes I will get pics of the underside of the car asap... I am happy with the way it looks after being brushed, but this is not a show car so I am not too picky... I just do not want to risk getting any over spray on the paint.

You guys remember my old project car I sold?

Here it is with the new owner almost got it done.... He did new brakes, new suspension, interior, etc etc and it looks good!

For 10 years I have been torn between Saturn Yellow and Apollo White. I finally nailed it down and now want to change again... Car looks real good! Where about's did your old car go? Did it stay in Canada?

No I do not regret selling it... I am super happy with my new car and the old car went to a good guy who is now a good friend so it all worked out! And if he ever sells it he will give me first shot at the car!

11 days till dyno testing, stay tuned!

Did you paint right over the factory coating on your GMC? The factory frame coating on my 03 Silverado doesn't seem like a normal paint, so I've always been hesitant to try to paint on top of it...
