Sean: my ceilings in my old 2 car garage are not that high either. I had 2 new single doors with openers installed maybe 3 years ago now and one has the side mounted liftmaster that gets the garage door up around 6 inches of the ceiling. the other door has a regular opener cause my support beam for my old garage is in the way for a side mount.

the installer took down both old single garage doors and openers and installed both new doors and both openers in a day. doors were insulated and the openers are super quiet now. the side mounted one also has a lock that clicks in when door finishes closing.

good to hear things are still moving forward and I'm still crossing my fingers for you and your families move.

I doubt that it’s a typical diy project but I forgot to mention that my installer did the work and handed us garage openers about 6 hours after he started. Good luck and I’m did it go from up in the air to already closed sales? Man that was quick.

Moving is never fun so try not to argue about anything and your marriage will have a better chance of surviving. I moved out of my shop and it took about a year and I’d only been there 6 years and I’m afraid I’m a bit of a pack rat and moving now after being here 31 years and my storage units if we move far might not be as easy.

Sean, not knowing any better, I replaced my three garage doors myself rather than pay a professional. That was 18 years ago when I was a wee 57-year-old. The doors I bought at Home Depot came with extension springs so it's supposed to be a less dangerous install process.

You already have torsion springs so the Liftmaster 8500 would be a direct fit. At one time I was interested in extending one door's track to make room for a 4-post lift. Turns out you need 9.5 inches between the track and ceiling and my garage has 15 inches. Too much work just to gain 5.5 inches but it looks like you could raise your tracks significantly more. Your door manufacturer probably sells a kit. My doors are made by Clopay and their site has quite a bit of information on options.

The first thing is using crack sealer in the slab cuts, then concrete patching over that, grinding with a Hilti dustless setup (still wearing a sealed mask) and then epoxy tmrw.

It is a 2 part Epoxy, it seems good so far. Good application and not stinky. One coat complete, now another one tonight and then it is done.

So lets see if i have this straight:

you had 1 main house (big house) that you just sold, that was the place from page 1. you had a small house somewhere out in the country? 45 minutes away? you were renting that out? That's the one you had issues with neighbors encroaching on your property boundary? You also build that enclosed front porch there, and off the side the lean to garage right?

So you have now sold both of them to get this current place.

Didn't you mention you had some more land, acreage? That you planned on moving to "one day" and building a massive shed on? it was 10 minutes from the little house?

I see you sold your grey primer skylark and got yourself a black primer skylark that was more complete/better engine etc. Did you ever get that one painted? Photos?

We sold everything, and now have just the new house.

Yes the Buick was painted a while back. I am in the middle of an engine swap so I had a tow truck move it to the new house .

The engine will be done in a month or so. The shortblock is complete, it is head porting now and then more dyno testing... So far we ave hit 480 HP without turbos, and is will safely be over 500 HP before the turbos.

Ohhh She is too pretty to drive now! My zed is the same way! It took me 4 years to fix all the rust, and it was painted 2 weeks ago, after being in the paint shop since may last year!

(not sure if your still following my build - i saw you were one of the first people to comment on my thread 3 years ago, but havn't seen you post since. Check out my thread if you haven't been over in a while, i recon you will enjoy the build!)

Anyway, when i went down and saw the car, I looked at it and said to myself "well dam it, I've made it too nice, i cant drive it anywhere anymore!"

What motor are you using? still a buick? im guessing a big block like a stroked out 400 or something along those lines?

Australia is a nanny state, we are regulated to how big in CI we can go for our engines if we do a conversion. It depends on weight of the car. Lucky my zed is a 2+2, so it weighs a bit more, and legally allows me to go to 349ci or so. So its either gonna be a LS, or a wild 327 that's not stroked and totally stock officer!

Thanks Rudi I have been following your posts I just don’t always post. I love that paint job, the car looks fantastic! It’s a 355 inch small block Buick, built to spin to 8000 rpm!

What a mess of stuff packed into the garage. Now the organization, shelf building, so much work! I need to build a shed ASAP, I hate having all the shed stuff in my way.

My first mission was to build a super sturdy shelf behind where the Buick is currently parked. I would have bought an industrial steel shelf however there is an air duct in the way so I’m building around it. I found two 10 foot long 6x6 steel tubing, 1/4” thick just $50 each! That lower shelf will hold engines, and will be plenty strong. This also allows the car hauler trailer to be backed right under it if needed. It’s not done obviously but you can see the idea.

One corner done... the ducting made it a pain to build shelving but it’s done.... There is running water in the garage but it’s still nice to have the laundry room sink right at the garage door!

Yup, just no time for paint before moving in. I got a quote for $4500 so I said screw that. I will have to paint it section by section when I can.

I would have at least primer sealed the drywall behind the shelving unit first... it would be dry before you needed to push the unit against the wall.

I hear you on the paint costs especially if you other places for funds that probably have stripped the money tree pretty hard with the move. before you move everything in place do you have all the electrical outlets (220's and plenty of 110's) and lighting where you want it cause that might be more important than paint?

a lot of guys run conduit on top of the drywall so you don't have to waste time cutting and patching it.

your floor looks great and the car even better.

Yes, $4500 to paint the garage!!! It was also a time crunch. I didn't have time to do both the paint and epoxy before we moved in. So the epoxy took priority.

Thanks, yes all the electrical is done how I wanted it. No issues there. I just need to switch out the light bulbs for the large lights. I even had speaker wires ran in the walls so I can have a booming stereo without wires strung around the garage. There is a separate circuit for the future garage heater, a nice big natural gas with electric fan. I will get that done ASAP, a friend is doing it for me as he is ticketed for that.

Lots of work to do, I may start building a big shed this week to reduce the clutter in the garage... Going from 2 houses to one, and from 5 sheds to none is killing me!!!

The small garage door needs to be completely re-done. It will be tucked right up to the roof and using a side operated motor instead of the low hanging chain operated version.

Sean: if time is a huge issue trying to get the sheds built before the snow comes this year, you might consider picking up a few like new (used) or new rubbermaid sheds. I've put a ton of stuff in my 7x7 Rubbermaid and all the lawn. garden stuff in some that were 4 foot wide, 2 foot deep and 6.5 foot tall that I picked up for about $50-75 used about 10 years ago. because I put pretty heavy items on the floor of the 7x7 rubbermaid I heard that putting 1/2 inch or 3/4 inch plywood down would help from crushing the flooring that came with the shed.

I put up 2 6.5 foot wide 2 foot deep 6 foot high racks on each side of this shed for supplies and left the middle open for things like pressure washer, and other tools and machines.

as fast as you built that shelving though you probably could have a few sheds built quick so your call.

glad to hear you have all the wiring where you want it and before you block off all the access maybe put a few extra (disconnected) wires in a few spots that might need a plug or light later, but that's up to you.

good luck with everything and especially installing the lift and the garage door.

Instead of waiting till spring I jumped on this pre-fabricated shed. 12 foot deep, 8 feet wide, 6 feet tall on the walls and about 11.5 feet to the peak! It has a loft for the boys to play in and lots of room for storage! It’s still on the trailer. Too much snow coming down so I just tarped it off.

Today I picked up about 1100 pounds of 3/4” thick landscaping rocks.

If it keeps snowing I will work on the overhead storage area in the garage. I have a 11’ 6x6 steel square beam for the main support. Last pic shows the beam beside the car.

Yes it’s a pre fab shed kit so it’s all new just not assembled. The weather isn’t cooperating so it’s on my trailer with a tarp over it for a few days at least.

I’m working on the inside of the garage, no heater yet but it’s only -10 so it’s not really needed. I do plan to get the heater installed before it hits -30. Today I picked up about 1100 pounds of stone for landscaping...

So 3 feet forward or where the front of the lift will be setup I build this 12 foot wide by 8 foot loft. Once I get everything out from under that area I will add extra 2x8s to the floor to box the beam in so it can’t move.

I was building it by myself so I had Home Depot rip my 3/4 inch sheets of plywood in half so it was easier to handle. I doubled up 26 with 21 inches between them so it’s plenty stiff. No deflection in the 6x6 1/4” beam obviously! For anything over 200 pounds I can just add more plywood under it to spread the load.

There will be a 3 foot flip down ramp to bridge over to the 4 post lift so I can easily raise or lower heavy stuff.
