My old but new to me Makita 08 zips off all the stuff I have.

To own things is to have them superseded by newer better models.....never any skin off my nose.

Seinfeld does a great skit about cars and women - seems right after you make a commitment the new faster sleeker models come out.

Correct. That's why we don't rank them on it, doesn't effect their points. Vibration meters on a impacts during use yield nothing useful data wise. Some guns torque radially, some hit back at you, others vibrate (which show the highest on meters).
Considering we handle more different impact wrenches than probably any one else alive today though, it's not a shot in the dark.
The 1/2" LXT Makita High Torque on a very tight bolt, as in about as tight as it can muster, is comparatively quite terrible to most anything else.
So it's just a sliding scale. If the Makita HT is no biggies for you, then you can see the 3/4" XGT with a lower rating from us and know even though it makes way more beans that should be even easier for you to handle.

If someone thinks an M18 high torque is rowdy - then they should stay away from a Snap-On high torque. And so forth.
Makita makes some of the best impacts on the market, the 1/2 LXT High Torque is just not one of them anymore. Whoever owns a tool when we say something like that about it may clutch their pearls, but it comes with the job.
Real world use often proves different than a clean bolt on a bench test.
Dont think im criticizing. I greatly appreciate the efforts you guys put into your videos!
But i also appreciate the guys like singlecams that show real world use, not just numbers.
Dont forget, terrible vibration often helps loosen stubborn bolts. Its not always a bad thing.

Thank you for comparing impact guns.

After seeing Makita's latest LXT low- and mid-torques, I'm eagerly awaiting the replacement for the XWT07/8.

Although to be honest I probably don't need anything more than the XWT17.

What do the my fellow Makita enthusiasts think of this deal?

Home Depot (not sure when this ends)
Makita XML09Z 21" mower
Four 5.0 batteries
Dual charger
$699

That's about $350 in batteries and a $70 charger
That puts you at $279, cheaper than a new gas mower
I get $100 from the village for buying an eclectic mower and I can sell my gas one for maybe $50
So that put me at $129 for the mower.
I'll be talking to the Direktor of Finance about this.

My 25 year old gas mower works fine, but is getting kind of tired from lots of years and hours.

$629 for me. I'd have to see it in action though. I've got a nice Toro I'd hate to get rid of.

I joined the club today… MAC5200. So far I really like it.

Congrats, and welcome to the teal!! That’s a great little compressor.. I went back and forth between this and the MAC2400 for a (fairly) portable unit. I felt for the extra 10 pounds it was worth it, jumping from 4.2 to 6.8 cfm. I love mine!

Thanks! I’m excited, I got a chance to break it in and use it last night. I basically just needed something to blow out air filters and power my air hammer for brief stints in my home garage. I used it last night to pop out some rear wheel hubs, and wow, what a difference! My air hammer feels like a whole different tool now. I also like the difference in noise versus the pancake compressor - it’s more of a hum than that ear-piercing shriek of the oil free pancake. I did have to plug it in to the dedicated 20A line I have to my garage because it eventually tripped the breaker on my general garage circuit. Thanks for the reminder that I need to upgrade that circuit, Makita… 😆

I have had two of the MAC5200 compressors for a few years now. Also have three of the smaller MAC2400 units. They have all been great with zero issues. One of the MAC2400 units has been run for 200-300 hours a year for about ten years and it still works like new.

They're well made.

We had a big wind storm here so I broke out the Makita (Dolmar) chainsaw.

I worked in the bush as a kid felling trees, so I know my way around saws. Used to have Husky 266xp and Stihl 036 pro saws, and I have to say this Makita is a cut above.

Feels like a Ferrari in your hands. Absolutely rips for a 50cc saw. Think they are still hand built in Germany.

I'll have to do the break in procedure in the morning.

Did yours have a little oil on the outside of it? Mine looked like it got stored on its side for a bit - when I unboxed it, I noticed a little oil had seeped out of the fill hole that dripped down onto the legs. No leaks today though, so it’s all good.

Didn't even look at it honestly. I'll give it a thorough look tomorrow.

Dolmar is a German company that Makita bought many years ago. They make nice saws. I have a 64cc that rips.

Did they ever fix the hog ring? I remember it being useless.
I don't know, i've used this tool about a half dozen times now from long to short durations and makes hanging ledgers with lags so effortless, before it was with my Corded Porter Cable.
I'll post if this thing does go Hog wild.

I didn't realize the Makita ratchet was brushed. Looks like a run-of-the-mill Mabuchi motor in the parts diagram.

That actually opens up some interesting opportunities for swapping in faster, lower torque motors and vice versa.
Now that sounds like one heck of a theme for it's own thread! What motors fit in what model tools and some how-to's.

I didn't see any oil on the outside.

Does yours hold 140psi? Mine drops to 130 in about 10 seconds, and it's down to 120 after about 25 minutes. I'm wondering if it's just the air cooling off in the receiver. I'm gonna give it an hour and see if it continues to drop then I'll start spraying all the connections.

It's not as loud as I thought it might be, definitely a lower tone than some of the ear splitting oil-less units. I can still talk over it.

Edit: it's holding solid at 120 psi.

My first Makita. My dad bought it for me when I was 19 or 20. Used the piss out of it. I haven't used it in probably 7 or 8 years, but the batteries still hold a charge.

This was the first new Makita I just bought, courtesy of another member posting a HD link. I decided to grab it and further invest into Makita.

3/8" sub compact and 1/2" mid torque. The high torque is awaiting delivery. Also waiting for delivery are the ratchet ("free") and the drill/impact driver combo.

Blower that was "free" with the circular saw. Fun fact it's made in Romania!

You definitely would have noticed the oil if it was like mine. The inside of the box had a few oil spots, and I’m 100% sure it was from storing it on its side since it ships with that temporary oil fill plug, and checking again this morning there were no leaks anywhere.

I honestly didn’t check to see where the PSI was holding at, I just connected my hose and started hammering. I’ll check this week and let you know, I bought a Kobalt 7 gallon auxiliary tank I’m going to connect to it.

I have the CXT 12V ratchet.
I bought one in August and have been using it daily for auto repair. It's been great and does what I hoped it would do.

I have switched to 3/8" a few times but use it primarily for 1/4" stuff. I have also found it usefule for running larger fasteners down to save time. I run it at 1/2 speed to run in spark plugs and then do the final tightening by hand. I also do this for 14mm heads and larger where the ratchet wont be strong enough to finish the job.

Thos MAC series compressors from Makita are some of the best you can find in that category.

With the large piston design you get all the benefits of oil, and much less noise then those oilless turds.
Heavy but worth it.

This deal has been going all summer at my local HD stores. I suspect it will go for a bit. I have been looking at it also. Reviews seem really good from what I have seen. I picked up an 18v string trimmer on sale and really like it. It is good enough that I dumped my gas trimmer. So, for my use case it is great. My state usually does a gas mower trade in every spring where they give you a 300 gift cert for a new electric mower if you trade in your gas. If they run the deal again I will do it for sure.

Nice haul! I hadn’t seen that light before.. kind of interesting.. how is it?
I've been using that light for about a year and it's been great. Battery life is good to excellent, and the different modes are nice depending on what you're doing. My only complaint is that it's fairly top heavy and tips over easily if you bump it. I've dropped it a dozen times as a result, but it's still working great.
