I have the Makita 1/2 inch hammer drill, 3 1/4 inch planer, 4 in grinder, palm sander and belt sander. All corded, all 30 + years old, all very well used, and never a moments problem with any of them.

If the Goof_stapo showed up and said "only one brand of hand-bench power tool allowed"
Makita please. The old F150 of the tool world IMHO.They are never cutting edge but they work and work very well.

Re: ***** Makita Addiction Thread *****

I've been using the lxt tools professionally for over a year with no problems. I've used the drill to mix all sorts of mud too. My sawzall and circular saw arent as old but I have no complaints with either. I need more than 2 batteries but just to keep me from having to swap between tools as much. I also have a corded 4 or 4 1/2 grinder but thats pretty new, no complaints.

Has anyone had good experiences with the knock off brand batteries? I see a few brands on amazon but not much for reviews. I'd buy makita brand but theyre sofa king expensive.

haven't used the knocks off but if you shop around you get the batteries fairly cheap. the place i buy from routinely has the 3.0 ah batteries for 49.00 on sale and still have the double packs of 3.0 ah for 129 regular price. they do promotions every two or three months with bogo deals or combo deals to get batteries for free with purchase of bare tools.

Thanks, I'll keep looking around. A local store has makita days where they have half priced batteries but I always seem to miss it.

Does anyone know if those kit boxes like Niniek showed with his drill, are available in the US? I've never seen them.

They are. Go to Makita's site, look at 'Storage' under 'Accessories' header.

Home depot here in Ocala has a XT211 set marked down to $140...I went back to it 4 times while I was int he store but couldn't talk myself into buying it. I have a few Milwaukee tools already and wanted to keep it red. Looked like a great deal though.

I still may go back.

Re: ***** Makita Addiction Thread *****

Love the old school Makita tools. The batteries - not so much. So, I've been snagging used tools and modifying them to other forms of power. (I hope this isn't an insult to Makita ownwers).

Here's a 9.6v drill I converted last year to run off of an old car battery charger. And a 9.6v pivot head flashlight I just modified to use three 9v radio batteries.

I have a whole kit of those old cordless Makita tools that just sits unused on a shelf in my garage. The light, the drill, electric impact and something else. And I went and bought what I thought was the matching cordless circle saw to go with and the batteries don't fit. I went and bought a battery online only for it not to fit into the charger for the other tools. Sounds like I need to do whatever you're doing to convert it!

I have an XPH07 Brushless hammer drill, and the chuck has about an 1/8" of in/out play (but ZERO wobble!). Can someone confirm if this is normal or not? I have not removed the chuck yet as I would rather not mess with it unless necessary.

As far as 3rd party batteries, I bought 2 of the 3.0Ah PowerExtra's and they both failed within 2 months. They refused to stand behind their product in any way when I emailed them.

I'm now using a pair of Masione 3.0Ah batts going on 6 months now with no issue. Pretty good deal at $28 per battery

Not sure if it's classed as a tool by forum but picked up a Makita RBC3100 Brushcutter after mucho research and talking to a few commercial contractors. Tough little barsteward and not too heavy.

I love my Makita drill and driver I have white set. How's the 1/2 impact I've been eyeballing them.

The big 1/2 impact is nice. Its powerful enough to take on/off lugnuts (325 ft/lbs), but not quite up to snuff with a nice 1/2 air impact. Its quite heavy and bulky, so I only use it for big stuff, usually I fart around with the smaller impact or just put a square drive adapter in an impact driver.

Makita just released a new 1/2 high torque impact which is supposed to be a BEAST at 740 (!) ft/lbs of torque. No plans to buy one now (they're $250) but that outpaces even most quality air wrenches.

I've got the XPH07Z drill and it's really nice.

It is! Awesome drill for heavy duty use. The chuck is a beast, and it drills concrete better than any non-SDS drill I've ever used. Great for a construction trade, although for simple tasks one of Makita's compact drills are much easier to handle.

Birthday present from my wife:

I just got that same saw. Came down with a cold the same day it came in so haven't had a chance to use it yet. I do trail maintenance in our national forest and am hopeful it will be up to the task for what I need it to do.

I'll have to gather my Makita collection together for a group shot.

Only real Makita addicts would have the old cordless tools with the 10 foot long battery. I'm not seeing many here!

Only apprentice on the job rocking the makita.

How do you like the worklight? I've been eyeballing that with the stand and then possibly adding another light.

My buddy accidently ran over my cheapie 400W dual head halogen so I need something to replace it.... I realize it won't be nearly as bright but I think cordless is a worthwhile tradeoff

Man I have been super impressed. It is the one tool, everyone at the company appreciates. It won't light a whole room to painters standards, but it's adiquite for my work.

The frame and light is made from quality ABS. It has a gasket to seal the battery compartment from the weather, which I mistakenly tested once, and it worked. The light separates from its base and has threading for a stand or camera tripod. It's also corded, and they even used a decent
Cord. I get about 5 hours off a 4.0 battery on high.

The only cordless I'll buy these days. Something about MILWAUKEE and DeWalt just doesn't seem right to me for some reason. Makita just seems to work.

I just upgraded as a present to myself to Makita 18v stuff. When i bought my first house 5 years ago I needed a good drill and impact driver so I bought what I thought would be good, some craftsman 19.2 stuff. That stuff was decent but now that I have something to compare it to, the Makita stuff blows it out of the water. I have the 18v drill, impact driver, and both kinds of LED lights they offer. I am debating on purchasing their cordless hedge trimmer. Anyone have any experience with it?
