Thanks JP. I see there is an option to get a grinder instead of two batteries for an additional $80.....not sure if that's a good deal or not?.....I have two 3ah with my drill/driver combo and a single charger that I could use with the grinder if I was to just by it bare? Thoughts?

I got three of those free grinders with my X2 mower, chainsaw and blower bundles. I really like them and am glad to have them but I'm not sure about paying an extra $80 for them.

So you pay an extra $80 and give up both the extra batteries and the dual charger?

I like having multiple dual chargers going when doing yard work so my inclination would be to get the batteries and charger and put the $80 towards the grinder in bare tool form.

I'll edit my post later with the exact model of grinder I have.

[EDIT] My grinders are the XAG06.

I took a glance at the link on the previous page and I think I understand now. You still get a dual charger and two batteries, you just don't get the additional two free batteries.

That's a tough call. Again, I really like my three grinders but I also like having lots of batteries when I'm back and forth between cabin and home doing yard work.

Hey Jp chestnut where is the deal for the blower? My wife just brought this up again tonight.........I keep fixing the old one.........it may be time!!!!

I got mine from Acme Tools. Excellent deal I believe tonight they have 10% off and free shipping on purchases over $199. I use it with the narrow tip on speed 1 or 2 to clear leaves and acorns off my driveway for about 5-10 minutes a day and can get a minimum of 1 week on a charge.

Is the blower with the single battery any good? It looks similar in design to the one posted above.

The free dual 5A batteries seems like the way to go. Batteries are a lot more expensive on their own, than most bare tools.

Today I cut a 5 foot wide swath about 200 feet through my forested backyard to link up with a public hiking trail. A chainsaw probably would have helped but my x2 weed whacker and 18 volt sawzall did a wonderful job.

The x2 blower is on order and I’m so excited not to have to screw around with my corded Worx leaf blower this year.

I read all the reviews to see if the x2 was worth the extra money. The consensus was that the 18v was class leading in power and longevity but that the x2 was in another class all together.

If all I needed to do was blow some leaves off my driveway I would have got the 18v. For huge masses of damp leaves on grass the x2 seemed a better choice.

My Makita addiction got me a NOS Makita 6501 drill recently as I was looking for a very high speed 1/4" drill. DeWalt and Milwaukee that I knew of had 4000rpm offerings with good torque, this drill drawing only 2.1 amps is lacking in the torque department but spins at 4500rpm, perfect for what I needed.

Does anyone else have obscure Makita tools that were produced in low numbers or not readily available in the USA. I'm always on the hunt for rare power tools my kids will have to deal with several decades from now.

Here's a very interesting read on a Makita 3501N groover that I'd love to get my hands on, just not for what it would cost to import one. https://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=458430

Does anyone have the x2 leaf blower? If so, how is it working out for you? Is the add on narrow outlet tip worth getting for blowing leaves around?

Also, my x2 weed whacker started making a not very nice noise after a vigorous round and knocking back the forest. It seems to have gone back to normal but I’ll be keeping an eye on it going forward.

I have the 1x battery blower (XBU03Z) and love it! I use it for everything. I use it the heat up the coals in my charcoal grill, dry the car, and keep the fall leaves at bay. I get about 10 or so minutes of run time on a 5 ah battery. I got the narrow flat end tip and found that it seems more powerful with out it and easier to maneuver. Just my two cents

I see lots of stick battery Makita’s come up on FB marketplace. I have a similar drill as yours from my father in law. The Chuck was seized, but I use it for some things after rehabbing it.

Any of you played with the new 40volt line? My local rep called me and told me he was in town with new stuff. Holy ****. The impacts were nice and the cordless circular saw is 7 1/4 and light to use. Now they just need better pricing lol

I busted out the X2 blower today. It worked much better than my plug in Worx brand blower. It was also reasonably silent, even on the high setting.

Even though I read some reviews that said the batteries die quickly on the highest setting, I was still surprised at how quickly they die. They went from fully charged to dead in under 10 minutes. I would't want to use this on my yard with fewer than 6 of the 5.0A batteries. I was thinking that I'd give away my second double charger, but I think I'm going to need to be charging four batteries at a time if I want to use this thing anywhere near continuously.

I find that 95% of the time you don't need the high setting. Speed 2 works best for general cleanup. I only use 6 for a few seconds to blow the leaves out from under the car.

I was using 6 to blow the leaves through brush deeper into the forest, so that they weren’t all built up on the edge of my lawn. You’re right though. One or two gets the job done on grass.

How is the Makita 12v 3 3/8 circular saw? HD has a deal today on it today

I have two 18v makita circular saws, the lower powered one is model XSS02Z with a 6 1/2 blade. It has just “enough” power to be satisfied with. I can’t imagine that the 12v circular saw has ample power.
IMO I wouldn’t touch the 12v line because I think they lack power and capacity. On that note, I did just purchase the 12v drive ratchet RW01Z for automotive uses, but that’s the only thing I would buy in the 12v line.

I have that one too and concur. You can stall it if you try to force it or the kerf closes up on you. I do like it though. I used it to build my shed and didn't even bother to get my Skilsaw out.

That’s the one thing that bugs me the most about the saw, making cuts and the kerf closing up. It just jams up the saw. Mine was struggling severely last month to make cuts. Little did I know my blade was chewed up...... :lol_hitti
I have the XSR01Z that I recently picked up, big it’s big and heavy with those two 18v batteries attached. I thought I was going to love it, not so much. Hahah

We have an XSS02Z and love it. It's not super powerful, but it's very light weight and just so handy.

As mentioned, these saws get their cutting ability from the very thin kerf blade they come with. They're .075" kerf, which is much thinner than most saw blades. If you put a regular circular saw blade on there, you will have far less cutting power.

The 12v's role would be exactly like what in it description: MDF, drywall, etc. I wouldnt use it for wood unless maybe some trim, small 1xs for shelves, etc.

Got Milwaukee for larger cutting

There's so much solid information on this forum. Thanks for the tip.

I have an older BSS610 (think non-star XSS02).
The slower RPM’s of these pre-BL saws are great for metal cutting blades.

Stepping up to the XSH03 was a very welcome change.
Incredible electronic speed compensation under load.

I love the XSR01. Yeah its kinda heavy, but if you are used to wormdrives, not much difference, using the weight as an advantage doing drop cuts, etc.
I find it particularly friendly paired with the Max Efficiency blade.
If i had any complaint, the saw can be slightly uncomfortable for extended periods during ripping with the saw set as a shallow depth, i.e. 3/4”.

Anyone have any idea if there will be a deal to be had on Makita's XWT17/18 mid torques this holiday season? Do they ever discount or have bundle sales on new tools? I like it on paper, but it will be hard to justify the cost if they sell for $299 bare tool like they are currently on OhioPower tool website. Right now and over the holidays DeWalt and Milwaukee sell their mid-torques for $200ish, and occasionally have bundles with a battery for that much. Really hoping HD or similar will have deals like that on Makita...

^That’s a great deal, paid $300 for mine a couple weeks ago. I don’t love the rear handle setup so I’m going to sell my kit, or part of it.
I just ordered kit XSH06PT which is on sale as well for $250.
Good times.

Damn, both kits are out of stock now, that was crazy fast.

Hey all-

Avid Makita user here. My 18v drill/driver had the smoke let out. I also have the 18v impact, both are from 2012. I have a small remodeling business and need a new 18v drill driver. I need a hammer drill function as well. I’d LIKE a the new 4 spd impact. I have a decent mess
of batteries, but can anyone help me with the best bare tool price or combo kit?

Makita has the XPH07 drill bare tool for $139 on Amazon, which in my opinion is a good deal for an excellent drill. It will even mix tile mud in a 5 gallon bucket without a problem. You just need to use the extension handle to keep the torque from breaking your thumb.

The 4 speed impact driver is the XDT16Z for $161 on Amazon. It's on my Christmas list.

These are brushless tools with microprocessor controls to keep the smoke from escaping.

Unfortunately Makita rarely has sales on their professional-level tools.

BTW, which model let the smoke out? I have one with bad mechanicals, but good motor/electronics.

This combo has the XPH07 hammer drill, which is Makita’s most powerful (and heaviest). It also has the XDT08 impact, which is a bit older, but still good, along with 2x 4.0Ah batteries and fast charger for $234

If you can wait, you will be able to find deals this holiday season.
