I tried searching to see if anyone had ever posted about one of these, but nothing shows up for me.

This is a strange tool and I’m not sure what it’s for. It’s a cast hinge type part and has “MANZEL BUFFALO” cast along with “9510C”

I got this from an estate of a gentleman who had lots of early Ford dealer tools and it seems like he must have been into rebuilding carbs and manual transmissions, but in my 25 years of doing the same I have no idea what this is! The first thing I thought was if this was some sort of carb holding fixture. I know early Ford carbs are usually 3 bolt flanges, but could this be for a Merc carb?

Any ideas?

Wow thank you that didn't take long. How did you find that? I'm not super familiar with Ford carburetors. I wonder what model this is for? The 9510 seems to be a ford model, just not sure how this attaches and why you would mount it that way. Must be for reaming throttle shaft bores or something.

Damn, all these years I've just been clamping a punch in the vise. May have to copy that idea for the veedub carbs.

Well... this is certainly timely... I was working on "Manzel" about a week ago, but back-burnered it .... there had been a question regarding the "M" they used as their "LOGO" on their wrenches, which got confused with the logo used by Moore Drop Forge.

Manzel / Manzel Bros., 309-335 Babcock St., Buffalo, NY / est. 1896 inc. 1906 became Manzel Division of Frontier Indstries / patent 791636 Jun 6 1905 & 820979 May 22 1906 & 828326 Aug 14 1906 & 829166 Aug 21 1906 & 832265 Oct 2 1906 & & May 4 1909 & 920769 May 4 1909 & 921327 Aug 17 1909 & 1003189 Sep 12 1911 Charles W. Manzel & 1014403 Jan 9 1912 Adolf W. Manzel & 1069450 Aug 5 1913 & D45943 Jun 16 1914 Charles W. Manzel & Adolph W. Manzel & 1201324 Oct 17 1916 (* some existing specimens are erroneously stamped with date of Oct 18 1916 *) & 1213522 Jan 23 1917 & D51729 Feb 5 1918 & D57987 May 24 1921 & 1521822 Jan 06 1925 & 1620824 Mar 15 1927 & 1637869 Aug 02 1927 & 1648140 & 1761891 Jun 03 1930 & 2012724 Aug 27 1935 & 2515524 Jul 18 1950 Charles W. Manzel / http://vintagemachinery.org/mfgindex/detail.aspx?id=5099&tab=0 / http://alloy-artifacts.org/other-makers-p4.html#manzel / see also Tomahawk Mfg. Co., Cleveland, OH /

It would appear that Manzel used both a serifed ("typewriter") font and a plain block sans-serif font on their wrenches. The Moore logo was an "M" inside a circle.

Note that Stan found the connection between "Tomahawk Mfg. Co." of Cleveland, OH and Manzel of Buffalo, NY.

Note Stan's 1918 ad for the "Tomahawk" lubricator puts Manzel at 309 Beard Ave., Buffalo, NY

Note AA's 1914 ad for the Manzel air pump puts Manzel at 337 Babcock St., Buffalo, NY

309 Beard Avenue, Buffalo, NY, is a 3-story residence constructed in 1914 https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/309-Beard-Ave-Buffalo-NY-14214/30161701_zpid/

Looks like Beard Avenue may have been Manzel's home address, and by 1914 he would have had the capacity to buy that nice fancy house.

337 Babcock Street, Buffalo, NY is currently a vacant parcel that appears to be the former site of some sort of commercial operation.

The addresses shown on some Manzel advertisements have the company moving up and down the block on the 300-block of Babcock Street. The entire parcel is currently a large vacant area.

"If you look at the side of the engine closest to the nearby grain cradle and wheelbarrow sprayer, you will see a large box. This box is part of the engine's lubricating system, a Manzel Brothers force feed lubricator, made in Buffalo, New York. The Manzel Brothers Company was established in 1896 and incorporated in 1906, or, according to trade magazines of the time, in 1905, by Herman J., Adolph W., and Fredericka Manzel. Their brother, Charles W. Manzel, held several patents for lubricators and other items."

The Manzel Bros. supplied the Weber Gas Engine Co. of Kansas City, MO with their "Force Feed Lubricator"

Alemite-manufactured "oil guns" abound in the second-hand market, but they appear to be an earlier design patented by Oscar Zerk:
