Manzel Buffalo tools

I tried searching to see if anyone had ever posted about one of these, but nothing shows up for me.

This is a strange tool and I’m not sure what it’s for. It’s a cast hinge type part and has “MANZEL BUFFALO” cast along with “9510C”

I got this from an estate of a gentleman who had lots of early Ford dealer tools and it seems like he must have been into rebuilding carbs and manual transmissions, but in my 25 years of doing the same I have no idea what this is! The first thing I thought was if this was some sort of carb holding fixture. I know early Ford carbs are usually 3 bolt flanges, but could this be for a Merc carb?

Any ideas?

Wow thank you that didn't take long. How did you find that? I'm not super familiar with Ford carburetors. I wonder what model this is for? The 9510 seems to be a ford model, just not sure how this attaches and why you would mount it that way. Must be for reaming throttle shaft bores or something.

Damn, all these years I've just been clamping a punch in the vise. May have to copy that idea for the veedub carbs.

Went to the ITCL, typed in Manzel, looked in the first one, scoped down the price list for 9510, went to that page.

Well... this is certainly timely... I was working on "Manzel" about a week ago, but back-burnered it .... there had been a question regarding the "M" they used as their "LOGO" on their wrenches, which got confused with the logo used by Moore Drop Forge.

It would appear that Manzel used both a serifed ("typewriter") font and a plain block sans-serif font on their wrenches. The Moore logo was an "M" inside a circle.

Note that Stan found the connection between "Tomahawk Mfg. Co." of Cleveland, OH and Manzel of Buffalo, NY.

Looks like Beard Avenue may have been Manzel's home address, and by 1914 he would have had the capacity to buy that nice fancy house.

337 Babcock Street, Buffalo, NY is currently a vacant parcel that appears to be the former site of some sort of commercial operation.

The addresses shown on some Manzel advertisements have the company moving up and down the block on the 300-block of Babcock Street. The entire parcel is currently a large vacant area.
