Has anyone ever ordered from Toolpan? I've never heard of it.
I have been considering one of these tools for awhile now, but have to say that I am confused by all of the different kits. Is there a complete kit that covers pretty much all automotive tubing needs for all of the different kinds of flares a guy could come across?
Is this THAT kit that I am looking for, or is there a better, more comprehensive kit out there?
I bought the 72485 kit on Ebay from Arctic Tools. I have wanted one for a long time, but never pulled the trigger. Could not be happier with it. I needed it to do push connects on 3/8 fuel line that rusted out. Couple of notes. It did not like the thick-wall 3/8 brake tubing that you can buy with double flares and a fitting on each end. It just pushed through the die. On the thinner walled factory fuel line, some 5/16 coiled I had and the 3/8 coil I bought it worked like a champ. I did not try to double flare that thick wall stuff, it may work fine. Also they do not have a "regular" fuel end to make. I was replacing part of a line on a 2007 Tahoe so I needed a push connect on 1 end at the tank and a regular barb on the other where I cut the line. I ended up making the barb a GM transmission cooling line connection which gave me something for the clamp to hold. I would love to use this to make barb type connections for some lawn stuff as well. All in all I love it and would buy it again. It is spendy but it saved me several hours not having to replace a whole fuel line.
I'm going to say no. My kit was the very complete standard brake it. So it had all the 45, bubble, double bubble, adapter line dies for fuel n evap flex, hell I know I'm forgetting a couple. What it didn't have that I needed for my projects was the 37.5 degree dies for AN / JIC tubing. So I had to buy a whole nother set for that. I don't remember what that cost but it couldn't have been that much, maybe a bit over a hundred. What does bother me is they don't offer a case for those so you're on your own keeping them organized.
Ive been using the bubble flare as a barb for as long as Ive had the set.
As for your problem on the double flares,Ive found that the inside and outside of the tubing needs to be beveled. I keep a long skinny unibit in my kit for that. Also oil the end before you start
I bought one just to do the GM fuel injection flares when doing an LS swap on a 1972 GMC Jimmy. Worked perfectly and I also bought the JIC 37degree dies as I was using some AN and some JIC fittings. Been sitting on my shelf for about 10 years?
