Masterforce Miter Saw Stand MX124.....Don't Bother

I have been looking for a decent mobile miter saw stand for a while, and thought I would try my luck on the Masterforce MX124. I don't have room for the larger Bosch T4B, or similar Dewalt, and my local Menards doesn't stock the Bosch GTA3800. I want something with wheels as I store the saw/stand under part of my workbench, which has a max capacity of 64".


Well....it's a fail on many levels! The levers that provide tension to the horizontal telescoping sliding material arms/supports are too weak, and don't hold. They also allow the material supports/rollers to wobble very easily side to side. That that it is a huge deal, but that means the built in material stops are going to be worthless for repeated cuts. What is funny is the levers that hold the rollers/supports on the telescoping arms are extremely stiff. No consistency in the force required to hold them in.

My assembly process and evaluation stopped there, as there really isn't any point in going any further. It is disappointing, but I think I will have to spend a little more an go with Bosch.

Pretty cheesy way to secure this lever, and long term I think the metal will easily deform from repeated use. So even if your new stand doesn't exhibit the same issues mine did, I am guessing it will eventually. As far as I can tell, the square telescoping material support is located in the round tubing by the plastic inserts. There is just going to be too much tolerance stack up for this to ever be a reliable setup imho.

Thanks for the warning. These are the things that I'm most interested in when I review tools online. Second best, is finding what I want locally so I can give it the woodeneye test, up close and personal. The last thing I want to hear is my wife saying "I wouldn't have bought it in the first place, why did you?"!

I was surprised how much the POS cost. Haven't looked but are the better ones that much more money?

Get the Ridgid, think its on sale for $129 at HD and is MUCH MUCH better than the Masterforce.

The Ridgid does look nice, but it is a bit too bulky for my needs.

I’m not sure how it is bulky it stands up with the saw attached and takes up almost no space can be rolled around on rough terrain and sets up in less than 10 seconds.

At this price point you will be making compromises, to bulky is a better bet then poor craftsmanship and quality.

Needs to fit under my workbench where it is stored, and I think it is just too wide. And if I wanted to go with that style of stand, I would more then likely pick the Bosch T4B.

I bought the Delta version of the Rigid stand, back before HD dropped their price on the Rigid. I couldn't' bring myself to drop $220 on a saw stand; I ended up getting the Delta stand on sale for $125 from Lowes and have been very happy with it. Go figure, HD dropped their price shortly after I bought the Delta.

My dad has the Rigid one and it's identical to my Delta, except different wheels.

I concur - and I got this thing for I think $99. It was so damn annoying to put together than I almost didn't finish, and I shouldn't have. It's a poorly engineered mess.

If you don't mind used, look for a Delta Kickstand. They come up on CL once in a while. It's kind of large and heavy, but sturdy.

I returned the miter stand yesterday, and figured I would swing by the hard dept and see if the manager would like to hear my thoughts on it. She was there, but could have cared less and said they have had no complaints.

While mine might have been a dud, based on the piss poor design of the mounting location and design, the cam locks will only get worse over time.

I bought the ridgid stand for 100 two years ago at BF, I don't know if it went to that this year.

Doesn't work like that anymore...the employees at Menards are often friendly but don't give a **** or know anything about the products. Also Menards has to be one of the last large stores on the internet that doesn't have reviews on their website.

Not defending menards at all, but I do remember at one point they hired pro's from the trades to work in the store. Don't know if they are still doing that or not, but that wouldn't be a horrible gig for a guy close to retirement.

Menards isn't very involved in e-commerce, that's for sure!

I am really weird in the sense that I really want my saw and stand to be from the same manufacturer. I want it to have wheels as well, but don't have room for the bigger gravity rise stands. Which limits me to Bosch and Makita (and dewalt if I wanted to add wheels to the stand). Which are both very high dollar saws.

I bought a WEN MSA330 - not perfect but don't pull my saw out very often. Robust though, when I set it up have no issues.

I set the roller support end on the wheels just a hair out and it stands up with the saw on it perfectly.

Not so sure that’s the case anymore...last time I asked for something to be brought down from above I was referred to a woman who could barely walk, bless her heart. She had little interest in helping me (basically blew me off) and I ended up using one of their rolling staircases myself to get something down after waiting for 20 minutes. Menards is not ammune to the current retail dilemma of finding employees who give one damn about anything.
