It took me about a year of putting feelers out and looking for used ones, but I got my Snap On for >50% off, and probably paid more than I had for everything else I got off the truck combined in the couple years prior. So I wasn't exactly my driver's #1 customer. If you're going to be picky (I was, it's still a good chunk and I wanted it to be just what I wanted) you're probably gonna wait. If you're flexible, you could find a deal in 1/2-1/4 that long.
Either way... I just throw it out there that this is what I want, and this is my budget (within reason, naturally)... when something fits, call me, but if you want to call my bluff and think I'll pay MSRP, you won't sell me a box.
FWIW, I had a KRL1023 offered to me (sale on new ones) for $3700. So while the Montezuma, etc. are a huge deal compared to retail on a truck box, I don't think the value is so great compared to realistic prices.
PS: Nothing wrong with a cheap box to hold you over while you deal-search. $400 for that HF could save you thousands when it lets you wait for the right deal (or save for a used truck box, cash) and then you can sell it for $300.
