Matco jacks, how really different from Harbor Freight are they?

Been looking at both the Matco LPSJ2T 2 ton low profile and MFJ354P 3.5 ton jacks since I haven't bought a new jack in over 30 years so I am contemplating these models, but the Harbor Freight models seem almost like their twins but of course a lot less expensive.

The Matco jacks in question are substantially larger than anything I've seen at HF. Wouldn't say all Asian jacks are created equal either. HF jacks are very affordable but they're also amongst the cheapest in terms of build construction.

I agree, but there's not always a deal going on. I had to buy one at NAPA a month ago because my CV needed replacing. Couldn't wait for a deal.

I found the 3.5 ton at Summit Racing in their tool catalog, t is listed as a Sunex and lists it as made in the USA stock number SXT-66037 $255.95 which is a good bit cheaper than Matco.

That is what I thought too, but it is printed in their catalog yet in Sunex catalog it does not reference COO. I do know that some of Sunex's hydraulic presses are made in the USA.

In regards to floor jacks, yes.. Relabeled weavers. The otc 1717 you recently purchased was marked "Made in the USA", that was previous to Strict COO guidelines, it is a import design that was probably assembled here.

There HD Press line is fully made in the USA IRC, the lower end like Arcan carries USA made steel frames with imported hydraulics.

The 3 ton Arcan jack for $99 at Costco looks like the best deal going on a jack. The quality didn't seem terrible, much better than my POS Big red one from Tractor Supply. It's $99, and if it breaks you can return it.

Hein Werner just assembles them here now. Quite a few of the parts are from Taiwan. I gave up trying to buy a new totally USA made service jack for $400 or under because it basically doesn't exist. Closest thing to match that criteria is a Milwaukee model 20 which runs closer to $700 shipped which is way too much for me to justify on a home jack. Recently just purchased a Sunex 2-ton aluminum model.

I don't think there's anything else in that price range with that level of quality. Of course it's not a USA jack, but it's $99 and returnable if need be. Can't seem to go wrong with that IMO. I wish I got it over the POS I got at Tractor Supply.

Last time I was in the factory "All" the Hein Werner 93642,52,57,660,667 and 662 ...where made 100% there. I'm guessing <13mos ago. They don't make everything badged HW, some is rebranded.. Air jacks etc. Absolutely Shinn fu has a lot of imported stuff, but not the HW unless its recent.

this may not be helpful but at school we have a matco jack and on the side it says bear or beast or something. It is noticeably different than my princess auto (Canadian HF) as in one and a half pumps on the handle and your touching the car. It lifts much quicker and my shop teacher says it will never fail (still makes us use safety stands of course).

Which one is really a beast? I've used both, the matco jack is just like any import (w/ a padded handle, rubber lifting pad, & graphics). The one on the right is a J-122 thats forty years old or more. Thats a beast of a jack.

I had sent a message out to Stephen Bailey of Shinn Fu KC Plant, He confirmed that ALL HW Branded Floor Jacks where produced 100% In House. Whether he is being Honest or whomever Skin spoke with misspoke about the what Units come from Overseas, Who Knows! Because honestly HW is such a small portion of there entire operation.

Maybe ill take another trip over there this spring... It was enjoyable watching them assemble the units from scratch.

Summit's wrong. I emailed Sunex to ask for confirmation on COO, they said it's imported from China.

Yep always forget about Gray.. Wish I would have remembered they where out of st Joe, my wife had a bowling tournament there last year. There is absolutely nothing more boring, than watching bowling. I would have tried to get a sneak peek of the operation..

I believe they know enough for most not to question them. My local shop also says this too. Its still made in USA.

If the jack was made of all China made parts, and assembled here in the US then it would have to be labeled, "Assembled In the US" not "Made in the US". The power units are made in South Dakota-for instance, the jacks are assembled here in Kansas City. Some of the minor components like the handle and casters are import, but the major components, like the lift arm and power units are made here in the US.

Thanks for Re-confirming, I've been claiming for years that they are produced in the US and there haven't been any "Major" changes since HW took over the Lincoln line.
