Ok, so the other day my teacher signed me up for the Tech ED program through Matco and i must say that, for the price i think i found a new tool supplier. Even at reg price matco seems like a better deal than snaps. like i found a set of 1/2 shallow impacts for $95 and the 42 piece short and tall 3/8 12pt impacts for $108. i think that i will still get snap on wrenches, pliers, breakers, and screwdrivers but man the price on those sockets is sweeeet.

Probably save even more money if you buy Armstrong sockets or gearwrench sockets, and cutting out the matco middle man.

watch out on their silver eagle line, it's just rebranded overseas metal. So you might not be getting the deal you think. Just stick with their hardline and make sure it's their us made tools, ratchets, wrenches, sockets. Also any of their other rebranded tools even at student pricing isn't such a deal. I've found multiple rebranded tools cheaper at retail on tooltopia than at student prices. Do your homework

matco has lots of great deals every month... keep an eye out for that

if you can wait, they usually have a deal from thanksgiving to almost Christmas for 60% off

as someone said... stay away from silver eagle

the 3/8 impact socket set is a great deal... picked it up myself

their pinless swivel impacts are great too... there are a lot of great scoops and more items are available than snapon on discount

Shockwave, are you talking about these?

SRFBZXLM102T, retails for $450, I took advantage of my student pricing when I could and got them for just over $200. Use them all the time, best wrenches I've ever bought.

Adv matco brand matco impacts are very good for the price. As mentioned the pinless swivels are great. They also have a 1/2 to 3/8 impact extension set is great. And for the money id buy a matco box over a snap on. I'm sure ill be burnt at the stake for saying that.

I wish we had a matco dealer. Gone through two since I started wrenching. First one only lasted about a year then about 3 years later we got the second one and he lasted about 6 months. To bad cause I really like the tools from Matco. And I'm a big fan of their toolboxes. I think I'd buy one if we had a dependable dealer......I am kinda sick of wrenching maybe I should become a Matco dealer hmmmm maybe I'll look into that

adv is imported, even with a discount i wouldn't buy em. and I only buy off the matco truck..... I've been using SK, northern tool and even stanley impacts for the last ten years and haven't broke any of em. Don't get too wraped up in buying Big name tools, especially impact sockets.

Not sure why there are so many haters on the ADV line. Yep its imported (mostly Taiwan on the level of blue-point) so no its not some insane bargain on USA tool truck hard line tools. That said with the student discount the stuff is a hell of a deal easily right around what you can get the equivalent sets for from, say, tooltopia, except Matco is backing every socket, wrench, ratchet so theres no warranty hoops to jump through.

The matco sockets that end in V are made overseas, just fyi.

Not all, their 1/4" drive chrome stuff is now all missing the USA stamp. The story supposedly is that they're importing the steel.

matco tools. the one thing i hate about matco is that they rebrand tools and still name them matco. i see people all the time with something they get from matco and i go to amazon and show them the exact same **** for cheaper. i would rather deal with someone that is honest and says this is matco and this is made in china ****, but whatever theres alot of people who get fooled by them or just dont care has long has it has a name brand label stick on to it they are happy. oh and the same for snap on new gauges and rachets that dont say USA. their gauges do not look like any older gauges, so i asked the snap on guy and he told me someone else makes their gauges. if thats the case minus well buy OTC on amazon for half the price.

Not trying to rag on you or the topic, just trying to point out there are good quality impact sockets for far less than even your discount price. I started out buying Matco a decade ago because of their superior pricing, and still am pretty faithful to the brand even though their pricing has skyrocketed over the past few years. If you have a dealer that can warranty these, great! I doubt you'll ever need it! They are nice sockets, don't get me wrong. Just trying to point out, the price is pretty crazy for a chinese socket set by comparison.

I would stay away, my opinion and experience. I don't like matco. When I was in tech school and I found out about matco I was amazed. I bought the starter set with discount for 1800 instead of snap ons 2500+ starter set. When I started working within the first week the sockets started to crack 1/4 and 3/8 chrome and 3/8 impact wore out quick. The truck man was a jerk and I found out matco tools are all rebranded, pretty much all they make is boxes and some hand tools, silver eagle is junk, they do have some nice USA wratcheting wrenches. In the end I ended up switching everything out for snap on or Mac. Oh yea I got 1/2 impact and chrome and box through snap on discount. Personally matco is below Mac and most tools can be bought in stores.

the way i see it is that matcos china stuff is whats keeping them in business. too bad theres not that many mac guys around and when we do get one no one wants to buy because they dont last very long to give you a peace of mind if you need to have anything replaced

I had the same experience used to be Matco was quite a bit cheaper than snap on now overtime they seem to be a couple bucks more.

Those ADV sockets aren't bad at all for a tool truck warrantied socket.

The long flex spline wrenches someone showed earlier are fantastic but pricey.

Mac and Matco used to be together and I heard one reason why for the split 34 years ago. There was an arguement between the Poole brothers,One owned the Mac side and the other owned the Matco side.I have one of their 1/2 impacts, the MT1769A which is a rebranded IR.Snap On is the only truck tool brand that makes their air tools.Matco has pliers that are rebranded Knipex pliers.Sockets,Matco's sockets don't break easily and Snap On's sockets do.Matco dealer whom comes in every Friday where I work asks if his customers in the Shelby/Hart and Ludington/Manistee,Mi areas if they have anything broken and the answer is no.Gets told lots of Snap On tools broken from them. Then there are Snap On dealers that don't consider anything broken, slipping ratchets are one.The dealer in the Big Rapids,Mi area is this way.Customer's employee went through this, had one that slipped resulting in busted knuckles.Owner told him to warranty it or not to come back, the dealer is a real ****.

I'm going to go against the grain here. I used to be a matco fan boy. I like my wc wrenches but I'm not impressed with the newer hand tools.. I'm always wearing out a matco socket or wrench. My mcl wrenches look terrible From normal use. So as I wear out a tool i get it replaced and take it home. I'm replacing them with another truck brand.

Like these? http://www.matcotools.com/catalog/p...EXTRA-LONG-DOUBLE-FLEX-RATCHETING-WRENCH-SET/

Cuz they look a lot like these http://www.amazon.com/dp/B002YKEW5I/?tag=atomicindus08-20

My take on Matco- Mostly overpriced, rebranded junk. Look at their ratchets, they are really not that great and they cost the same and in a lot of cases more than Snap on for a similar one. I stopped buying Matco, their stuff just isn't worth it. I wrench for a living, so I hope I know a little about tools

Taiwan. They're the only company in the US who offers them though so you're SOL looking for a cheaper brand.

So much Matco bashing . Great ratchets, great wrenches, nice sockets, unmatched offerings in ratcheting wrenches. I've been using their stuff for a long time and its all very high quality. Their ADV stuff is on many levels the same as Sunex, GP, and Gearwrench, however because its Matco these usually highly complimented brands are apparently "junk". Sorry but take many of these peoples opinions with a HUGE grain of salt.
