I had the same problem with the 1/4 ratchet. I had Matco man replace it and rebuild it with no improvement. I got fed up with it and sent it to the recycler.

Throw a tool away instead of selling it/trading it in? Why?

They both have their own Matco truck with separate routes?
Yes. Seems like they are doing quite well as a couple. I have no idea what their actual profit numbers are.

There is a local Cornwell dealer that the husband runs the route 3 days a week, the wife runs it the other 2, while the husband stays home and handles the business you normally do in the evening.

It beats one person working 80 hours a week.
As far as I know, these two both put in 40+ driving separate routes. I have no idea what this entails as a franchise, I'm just a relatively happy Matco customer. The local MAC guy flaked out on our shop, a bit out of his way... Matco Snap-On and SK tools guy get all of our business now... To be honest, Matco guy gets the most doll hairs from me. Plenty of BS, zero hassle. :)

Thousands of years ago, when there was a Matco rep in this area, I saw that the ratchets were "Mac prices for Craftsman guts".

I have genuinely liked the 10mm combo wrench. I was told that Wright made them, but I don't know that for sure. I thought they were made by the folks who made Armstrong.

Have a socket or two (nothin' special) and a 1/2" wobble extension (nothin' special)

I prefer Snappy for truck tools, and SK for the low-priced line.

In my area the matco guy has been around for 20 years. Mac and snap on last a year or two then fizzle out.

My current snap on I have called several times asking to buy stuff cash in hand and he refuses to stop even though he goes down the street. He used to stop monthly.

The matco guy will stop no matter what. He is also the only non-pushy driver I've had and the first that Ive heard tell someone to save their money and buy the tool from HF if they dont plan on using it A lot.

I think the driver makes the truck not the other way around.

My wife's uncle has been a matco truck dealer/franchisee and i think his dad before him too in the philly area. he did it his whole life and is ready to sell/retire now. tools he has had that i have seen seem real nice, he actually developed a few new tools/patents for them as well.

My thought on Matco is, since 2016 they are expanding there product line and interest in new franchisees since they are can buy tools from different manufacturers and not limited to the old Danaher group, now called Apex basically GearWrench

There are 3 new franchises in BC, Canada and frequently see advertising for more franchises. I might see the inside of a Matco truck yet. Not sure how far I will have to travel to see a Cornwall truck

Some pictures of Matco tools and boxes from up North

I like the new battery impacts the are expensive but powerful. Yes I like them better than Milwaukee. I also have the MaxMe code scanner I like it and it work on subscription. They have some good BoGo deals sometimes. I also have some older wrenches and some newer sockets. I buy from them because or rep has been servicing our shop since I have been here (19 yrs). I know they outsource or re-brand tools. I like they come to me and I am buying from a reliable rep. Our MAC guy has been coming here over 20 years also, Snap-on we get new rep every year or so.

I like they're torx drivers, torx sockets? Not so much, the had a special with sockets and drivers one time and I have the full sets. I like the snap on torx I have better. I also have a 1/2" impact and that's good too, Made by IR. My step dad has a lot of they're stuff and he seems to like it all.

A friend of mine had a MATCO route for two years. His territory was long and narrow. He said the fuel bills were terrible. he also said driving the long distance from one end of the territory to the other to collect a few $10 checks, some of which bounced, was killing his finances.

After two years, he finally threw in the towel. He still has a Knight Rider tool box in his garage that he said the company required him to buy and try to sell. He said everyone that saw laughed at it.

He did sell me a very nice tool cart though.

They make nice boxes that are solidly made. I like their locking flex heads ratchets better than any other brand. Except the Armstrong Maxx which was pretty much the same minus the grip and a few less teeth. Their sockets are quite nice as well.
