We know now that Matco flare nut wrenches are made in China as evident by this thread:

http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=275969&highlight=matco

Are the Matco combination wrenches made in China now too? Good question, and for the amount of money Matco charges for their tools, I wouldn't want to find out years down the road when it comes time to replace a wrench.

Meanwhile, Snap-on is still making awesome wrenches in the USA.

get yourself some older Matco wrenches from ebay, many are new or near new, like much of Matco's steel, most of their older stuff over the last 20 years was made by Armstrong (Danaher)

I have a set of standard Matco combo wrenches that I'm sure say USA and the spline ratchet wrenches that I can't remember if they do. The quality on both are excellent. Picked them both up through the student program.

Your safest bet would be to look at only combination wrenches ( non ratcheting ) with opti-torque open end

All there standard combination wrenches are all us to my knowledge but that might change soon

And all there ratchets are Armstrong but only all metal ones are marked Usa since handle is made overseas

Your safest bet like what has been said is to call Matco directly on here said item

Also keep in mind Matco only makes toolboxes!!! Every thing else in there catalog is rebranded

Yes, however Matco have "opti-torque" cut-outs on the open ends which works incredibly well. Most Armstrongs have standard open ends. Matco's combination wrenches is one of the better things they sell.

With your discount consider

Ratchets
Pinless impact swivels
Extra long ratcheting/flex + fixed HP wrenches (SRFBZLM102TA)
Extra long combination wrenches
SPK5 5pc Magnetic Spark Plug Socket set

Those are some stand-out products that they offer. Their Witte picks and Screwdrivers are also pretty nice.

yeah, whereas most of snap on's stuff is either made by them, or by a company that they own...my snap on guy calls the supplemental catalog(where all the IR and other non snap on branded stuff is), the matco catalog haha

i'm kinda surprised armstrong doesn't do that to some of their wrenches too...it's dumb to buy the tooling and set up the whole process for only one of the two wrench lines...both the mac and proto have the anti slip teeth on them

if the Matco hard line tool (ratchet, socket, extension, wrench, etc.) is made in USA, it is most likely built by Armstrong (and very good quality)
