My first post, but I've been following from the start. I have to admit, some of your photos showing the chaos that comes with improvements gave me some stress! Glad things are looking better!

AWESOME! Love the Audis, Love the garage!

How is the Home Depot AC unit working?

Thanks! The A/C unit works good as long as I fire it up before it gets hot. It keeps the temp down a bit but I think that once I get the new insulated garage doors, it will make a huge difference. I'm not sure what difference it has made on the bill yet.....My wife takes care of those and has not said anything to me....yet :lol_hitti

I have had nothing but stress so far. I wanted to do the garage before we moved in but that didn't happen. I must admit that I have enjoyed seeing the progress. I still have chaos on the back wall as I'm still waiting for my last workbench and lockers to come in.

I think I may have copied you and ordered the Audi logo from enthusi-works. I'm trying to get away from using the flag/banners to give the walls a cleaner look.

Max: floor looks great. is it finished or are you still waiting for a few pieces to complete the edge? moving is always stressful, but with a great garage and a pool and a great wife you will survive.

have a great weekend

I just stumbled across this and read through the thread, excellent transformation! (sightly biased on the cars too)

Thanks! Its coming along but still lots to do plus I always seem to want change things. I've changed the bar set up at least three times and will probably change it again.

The 15 tiles arrived on Monday and were cut to size and installed on tue morning. I thought I was going to be one short as I made a mistake on one of the pieces before I ordered. Luckily, I found a piece I had trimmed earlier and didn't throw away. It fit perfectly and I was saved. The wife has been very supportive and helpful with the garage project. Always giving me suggestions. I just hope I built the tire rack strong enough since its over her car. Apparently the studs in my garage are not exactly 16" apart.

I thought there was a chance the studs were places at 24", but it looks like all the dimples in the wall are pretty darn close to 16" O.C. If you are concerned you can always drill a few additional holes in the top bar of the rack for toggle bolts.

Looking closer, did you mount mount a board to the wall in the studs, then the rack to the board? If so, that should be plenty strong for a set of wheels and tires (~200 lbs).

I did add a beefier piece of wood and added more lag bolts. The measurements I was getting was 16" then 17" and then 16.5" so the holes in the bracket didn't match up

Nice garage and cars.

I live down the 99 from you in Ripon. My 3 car is not as nice as yours, but is insulated and has insulated doors. I don't have a ac unit in there, only a fan, so it still can get hot in there.

Never much into Audi's, had a bunch of bmw's. I used to autox and drove Thunderhill. Couple of years ago my wife gave me the Audi Driving Experience at Sears Point. I really enjoyed it. I may have to get one someday.

Maybe one day we can do a Sac/Central Valley/Bay Area Garage Journal meet up.

Would you recommend insulated garage doors? It couldn't hurt i'm thinking. The Audi experience was fun. The wife and I did it a couple years back. Whats in your garage now?

I think the insulated doors help some, but if your doors are in good shape I would first consider insulating them yourself. I replaced our doors even though they were only 10 years old due to them being cheap and giving me problems. Didn't help that my wife had run into them several times.

Had to make some changes a few years ago, will get back into a fun car again one day. I have a Lexus RX350, wife has a MINI Cooper S, daughter has a VW Jetta GLI.

What was your favorite car at the Experience? I really liked the R8.

House near us must belong to someone involved in JHM. Lots of nice Audi's with their logo on them.

Max: we replaced our original 70 year old wood garage doors with new metal and insulated ones about a year ago and the garages are a much better temperature now. not so hot in summer so far, but still hot and winter was a lot warmer out there.

if you ever need to replace the garage door openers the new side mounted ones are great and quiet too.

i hear it's not too hard to insulate some of the newer doors, but not sure where to buy materials or which doors are easy or hard to do yourself.

your garage is looking good so keep at it and i'm sure it will come together soon at the rate you are working on it.

cheers

I'm replacing the doors anyway. There is damage to both of them. I did like the R8 but I think I enjoyed the RS5 even more :shocking:

Thanks. I just got the call today that my cabinets will be delivered on Wed! I'm super excited.

I do want to get the side opener but the guy who gave me the estimate told me he would only be able to do the smaller door. There is not enough room on either side of the larger door.:headscrat

Max: i was only able to do the side mounted garage door opener on one of my two single garage doors too because a beam was in the way to do them on both. here's a picture of my doors and the company that put them in sent one guy out and he did a very nice job and took out the old doors and rails and hung new doors with new rails and the openers in about 6 hours. not sure if this company has any installers or sales in your area, but here's the link in case they do and you might need somebody.

Those are the doors I want! I even picked (or the wife and I) that style put with a window. What finish or color is that and what brand are the doors?

Thanks! I'm loving the transformation! The garage is 22' by 27.5. The doors are 16x7 and 8x7. I have not yet pulled the trigger.

The power the RS5 was nice, but I preferred the better handling of the R8.

My garage is similar in size, just a couple feet wider. I wish it was 2-4 feet deeper, especially when I had a boat.

Really interested how you like your new age cabinets. I have melamine cabinets that will have to do for now, but want to upgrade at some point. I was considering the gladiator cabinets, so curious how they compare.

I have been researching cabinets, lockers and work benches for a long time. At least two years in the hopes I would get a larger garage. I've heard decent things about Gladiator but I liked the look of the New Age. A bit pricey but I shopped around for several months looking for new and better deals. They will be here wed and I just hope they are not damaged during shipping.

The R8 was a better handling car for sure but I guess the RS5 appealed to me because I had a better shot at affording it than the R8.

Max: we bought our doors through www.distribudoors.com and found a great guy that owns a company in Pacific, Washington just south of Seattle.

what you are looking for is an “MASTER AUTHORIZED DEALER” through Clopay. There is usually one in a close proximity to most people according to the owner of the one i bought my doors from. I have Gallery doors in the Walnut finish.

Gladiator makes nice stuff and one of the choices i'd choose from if i liked the new look so looking forward to seeing what your new cabinets will look like and if you like the quality.

I do like that walnut finish!!

I'm going for a newer look, kind of like that clean dealership look. Just want something more modern than what I had previously. Although I would like to put something vintage in the space.

Max: very nice. did you order the sink custom color and put in the stainless piece in back or do tell because i can't say I've seen a black sink before in a garage?

so how do you like the cabinets now that you own them and they are going up in your garage?

nice storage too and i'm sure if you want to improve it later there might be other options, but for now getting things off the floor probably feels a lot better.

I just went through your builds. Very, very nice!

Thanks - it took a long time to get my first shop just right - now I get to start all over again!

Nice cabinets - it is nice to have all that storage!

I might have to borrow some of your wall color choices... haha.

The sink was white and i decided to paint it black. Thought about painting it blue to match the cabinets but I'm not sure yet. I did add the the stainless piece as a backsplash. I think I will add another above it.

I absolutely love how the cabinets look and feel. The tool drawers all came with rubber mats which I thought was a nice touch. They came fully assembled with the exception on the legs and handles.

I've never had this amount of storage before and can't wait to fill them up.

I'll feel better once I clean up all the cardboard and styrofoam. I took one wagon load to the recyclers (cardboard) but still have lot left.
