Wow nice job! Not sure how I missed your thread to date...

Anyway, the reason it caught my eye tonight was that my brother and have called our garages "manrage" for years as well - pretty funny!

Great looking garage! I love the color scheme you went with. My house is currently under construction and I am lurking all over GJ for some ideas. Love the Audi fleet too!

Dave

I'm not sure where i got that from but yeah it works!

Max: anything going on in the garage. Did you get t,he ne,mw doors yet?

Cheers

Sorry, its been a while since I have been on GJ. I have been working on the backyard area as well as other parts of the house. I just ordered the doors today but had to have the guy give me another day since I can't decide on walnut or mahogany. I didn't think it would be that hard.

Thanks! Its a great forum for ideas.

Max: welcome back. i'm sure either color will work and some people try to match close to their front door, but not something that makes a huge difference. which color did you pick? also did you buy the two garage openers that mount on the side?

cheers

Nicely done.

Thank you

I am leaning towards mahogany. The rep only had a sample board in that color and a small index card type smile of the walnut. I just got off the phone with him and he's dropping off the larger sample for a side by side comparison.

Unfortunately I will be going with only one of the side openers. There is just not enough room even with the adapter because of the overhead storage. The rep said he could make it work if he moved the door slightly (1/2" to 1") to the side. I know it would be hard to notice for most but I would probably see the difference. So I'll just go with norm on that one.

We are also looking at getting the house repainted which will be another difficult decision :willy_nil

Max: did you get the garage doors installed or still trying to decide on colors and style? my wife and i would always do a lot of driving around to look at houses to see some we'd like the color or materials on and i'd even knock on the door and ask the owner's if i really liked the color or some material like garage doors or windows or paint.

with your choice of cars to drive around in that should be fun checking out other homes and neighborhoods and maybe grabbing a Starbucks or lunch on the trips.

good luck

The doors should be installed on the 10th of this month. I can't wait. After a lot of thought, I or we decided to go with mahogany. I hope it looks good :wtf:

On another note, I'm redoing the bar area of the garage. A buddy of mine recently purchased a 4K 65" TV and was kind enough to donate his current 55" to the garage cause. :D

Max: not sure you can go too far wrong with color choice since you are getting quality doors. did you figure out the openers so they'll work with your situation or are you leaving one door manual opening (man cave door)?

my 57 inch older projection TV is starting to get pretty dark so my wife wants to get a new flat screen. I know i won't have room in my shop for mine unless we move so mine will need to find a new home too. if you have the space and the TV works and you have all the connections you've made another quality improvement to an already cool space.

i think you mentioned waiting for the garage door color so you could match the front door so did you find a new front door?

I bet the pool was fun as hot as this summer was

^ I need to upgrade my friends. That's awesome.

No complaints here. We took my Avant to pick up his new TV at Best Buy thinking it would fit. I know from past experience that a 55" would fit. He didn't tell me he purchased a 65". Once we got there and I saw the box, well lets just say he had to get it delivered. :lol_hitti

I decided to do the one door with the jackshaft and the other with a regular opener.

I figure I'll set up the TV and bar after the doors are installed since I have to move a bunch of stuff anyway. I'll be sure to post some pics next week of the doors at least.

There is a large metal screen door in front of the front door. I'll probably just paint that. The wife for some reason wants to paint the front door red even though you can't see it with the screen closed. :dunno:

The pool was great but since we turned the solar off, its now close to ice water. So now its just a big water feature. It looks warm when I turn the pool light on though.

Max: how do you like the new garage doors and openers? pictures when you have time?

I was a little nervous with the color I chose. Hard to get a real idea with a sample. I must say, I made the right choice. I could also feel a significant temperature change in the garage with the insulated doors.

I love the openers. I wish I would have been able to get two of them. But I am impressed on how how quiet the 8355 is.

Here are a few pics

During.. I hated having to move everything but what can you do?

Overall, I am very pleased with the doors and openers. I have some clean up to do inside but once I'm done with that I'll post some inside shots.

Fair warning - the 8500 may not program to Homelink for any vehicle made prior to 2007.

I pissed away an entire evening trying to program all 4 of my cars.

I have to buy a damned adapter to get the OEM Homelink working on ALL of my cars!

Thanks! Everything is still a mess inside. I hope to get at it tomorrow.

Huge improvement, even just to the curb appeal. Nice work.

I love pulling up to the house a lot more now!

Damn those doors look nice

I had to get the repeater thing too.

Max: how do you like the new doors after a week and garage door openers still working quietly and smoothly?

it looks like you have your MESS taken care of and you've got the Manrage back like it was before the garage doors were installed? or did you just purposely take pictures of the bench and not the area where you have the sofa and bar?

take care

I'm still working on the mess (that you cant see in the photos :lol_hitti)

The door openers seem to be working well. Hooked up the myQ as well. The app seems to have some issues. Another thing I didn't mention before was that the glass they sent for the door panel was clear and not obscure as ordered. So they will be coming out next month to replace that. Overall, love it all. I am hoping to get the bar area done and clean up some wiring from the install as well as my install of the security cameras this week.

Been a while. I hope everyone had a good holiday season!

Update on the bar area...still under reorganization but making progress.

I added some security to the side door to keep out undesirables. Installed a Door Devil anti-kick kit as well as a cross bar. Feels pretty secure now. I added a similar kit minus the cross bar to the kitchen/garage door as well the front door. Here are a couple of shots of the side door.

Back to the garage doors.... I liked the JSO for several reasons including the self locking mechanism. The other opener doesn't have that option so I found another solution for the emergency release pull. I decided to remove the cord and secured it with a cable tie

And finally had the clear glass replaces with the obscure.

And last but not least here's another shot from the front.

I hope to finish the bar setup and additional works space soon.

Just enjoyed reading through the entire thread. Great transformation inside and out.

Can I make one humble suggestion that would have kept my blood pressure lower during the read? ... In your signature can you add the details to your Q5 wrap? :)

Max: garage man cave looks like it was the place to be on Super Bowl Sunday. nicely done. where did you buy the door security kit? i'm getting ready to put in a new front door and thinking of beefing up the door jamb since i need to have one made for the door we bought without a frame that matches our garage doors.

do you heat the pool in the winter and use it?

take care and hope you work out the bugs on your Audi app.

Thanks, and done! :lol_hitti

Looks like the spot you created worked perfectly. Cheers!

That looks like the place to be. Awesome to see you enjoying your space with good folks. (Good = Audi)!

Looks like the party was a blast!!!

It worked out great! We had a TV in the backyard for people who wanted to be by the grill. The garage almost had a bar vibe going on!!

I got the kit off of amazon. The one I put on the front door was made by door armor I think. I chose that one because it matched the lock and door knob. It doesn't hurt to invest in something like that. I could not believe the small size of the screws I removed from the jams. I know now why kicking in doors is so easy.

The pool is solar heated. I wish it was heated year round but the gas bill would be a little too much. I would like to get a jacuzzi however.

Max: thanks for the 411 about the door security and hopefully I'll figure out how to install something fairly substantial to my cement block framed home when putting in our new door that actually is almost a match for our garage doors.

I know your weather is a lot warmer than ours, but we put a Jacuzzi inside our house in the main bath that doesn't get used a lot, but when it does we don't get cold going outside and it's plenty private for whatever happens in it.

cheers
