I'm guessing these questions may have been answered numerous times elsewhere, but:

What do people generally do for installation, such as any holes or anchoring that have be added to the floor?

Is there an easy way to determine the strength of your concrete? Call the contractor that poured it?

I have a three car garage with two center drains. Are sloped floors an issue at all?

Dang. Okay, I've got $1300 put aside for this and I can come up with the rest in that time frame. Thankfully I've got a convention coming up this weekend that I can do a ton of art commissions on and that should readily cover this.

Right. I'm doing this. I'm going to order a lift. (Pinch me!)

Just to clarify, is this the lift only, or are there add-ons like the motorcycle adapter as part of the group buy?

Forgive me but do you have to call the number then order by web? How does it work?

Good question. It is either call or order by web. Need to use the GarageJournal coupon for web order though for group buy pricing.

This is the lift only.:beer:

Buyer IS RESPONSIBLE FOR OFFLOADING etc, all the normal stuff with any lift you would buy from any company.

What does it take to "Offload, etc." this lift from the freight truck? I have a lot of toys, but a forklift is not one of them...

The price difference between Costco and this group buy is $200. I know with Costco's famous forever warranty, I can throw this on the back of a pickup truck and haul it into the nearest local Costco for a full refund with no questions asked.

What kind of warranty would be provided with this group buy? Because the extra $200 for Costco give quite a bit of piece of mind.

I was going to post the exact same thing...not that Gabe is not offering a deal, I still think it is a good deal, I was just hoping for the $1600 arena. And yes Costco is a huge backstop for a purchase like this...

One question for Gabe is on delivery, if we pick up at a terminal (which terminal I have no idea) is there cost savings to be had at all? I don't have a forklift either and I doubt a delivery truck guy is going to wait while I unload 1 piece at a time...if it is in the back of my pickup I have that luxury, on top of saving a few dollars?

Thanks again for pulling this together...

I wrestled with Costco as well when I went with the GB 2 years ago. Out of state means no tax. Costco will have sales tax. One option was to have it delivered via lift gate for additional ?? ( I don't remember). I had them drop it in my truck at the terminal. It was no more money to have it delivered to the house, but I had no way of getting it off the truck. They use rusty strapping and big bolts to hold It all together. I'm not sure the truck driver would let you take it apart piece by piece.
I chose to go get it and no money saved. It seemed like terminal delivery was harder for them b/c they had to take it off the truck, store it and deal with me in the yard rather than the truck just delivering it straight to me as it came in. ( it may not work like that ,but you get the point. )

I didn't really want to spring for a costco membership, as there is one about 40 min away. So the GB made it easy.

Costco is great to buy from. I encourage if you are willing to pay the extra $200 - both GES and Costco are great options.

The warranty on all Dannmar lifts are 3 years on structure, and 1 year on parts.

The one thing I didn't mention is that there are certain fees for special delivery that the freight company charges us:

- Drop off at local freight terminal $59.00
- Drop off at residence $40.00
- Drop off at residence + lift gate $140.00

You can call to check what applies to you or if you have special delivery arrangements.

Other than that general shipping is included, it's just the special stuff like that - it costs a little extra.:beer:

Can you explain what "general shipping is included" means. I don't see a way around your extra shipping charges? If I wanted dropped off at a residence, it's extra. If I want to pick it up at the terminal, it's extra. Lift gate, I get.

Do I have to catch the driver in the truck stop to take advantage of " general shipping included"??

Maybe I am missing something here??

Edit- free shopping to a business address.

You basically have to ship to a business with a truck dock and forklift to get the free shipping.

Exactly. Sadly there is no way around this. Without the group buy you still have to pay extra for residential delivery - as with most any lift you would be buying. Though it is portable when you have it installed, it is still a very heavy piece of equipment with both of the posts and all the arms all packed up.

Sorry about that Todd

Still, it will be $429 below retail, and $200 below Costco.:beer:

If you have any other questions I'll be right here! Hope that helps.

If you buy the lift from Costco, can you avoid the shipping costs? I know you have tax to deal with, but that would just about equal the shipping costs for me from the GB. Just something to think about.

Shipping is not the same thing as Delivery. Shipping is from the supplier to the local depot/store/retailer. Delivery would be between that site and your location.

You may want to weigh the option of getting it shipped to the local depot and then picking it up yourself with a rented truck or trailer.

For me, $100 is worth having it taken to my driveway. The hassle of renting a truck, taking the time to go get it, return the truck, etc, etc, is just not worth my time.

Drop off at residence + lift gate means on the grounds at my house, right? If so $ 100 is a bargain.
That is correct. The two times that I have had "liftgate" delivery the driver lowered the package to the ground and then used a pallet jack to take it into my garage. All they were required to do was drop it off, not take it into my garage.

Yes they bring it to your house and lower it to the ground.

While the MaxJax is heavy when all packed up - a single person can move it with a pallet jack or some crafty thinking.

I have heard some crazy stuff :beer:

Either way if you bring a friend you will have an easier time - but I have heard of some people doing the whole thing by themselves.

You really wouldn't believe some of the crafty stuff these guys do to get it into their garage.

Oh geez guys... I just got informed I am wrong about the $100 lift gate + delivery to residential. For both combined it is $140...

If it is without the lift gate I am wrong as well it is $40 not $60.

I can't believe I made that mistake.

I have gone back and edited the previous post to not confuse anyone...

I apologize.

Did not realize this it is apparently a recent change.

Dang... Really sorry...

It is a VERY recent change. It was not $140 on their web site the day that you posted the link.

What's the total weight of this as delivered? Trying to get an idea what I'd need to do to get it to my garage.

Hey UpShift,
Since everything has been updated can you confirm that the price of the lift is $1800 shipped (to a business) but to a house with lift gate will be the $1800 + $140 = $1940? And lastly, seeing as you are in California as well as my delivery address, will sales tax be added on top of that? Ie. 7.5% = $135 Or $1800+$135+$140= $2075?
Thanks!

To summarize, this is a good deal, better than retail, but not a great deal or, at least did not fulfill many of the fanciful dreams of many. The deal is not far off the costco deal with costco offering an unbelievable money back guarantee.

For me, with no costco within 5 hours, this group buy is the best I can do and happy to have it.

The MaxJax Shipping weight is 880lbs.

70" Long and 24" wide

Once you have it lowered at your driveway you can disassemble it and move in pieces.

Hope this helps..

Here is the link to these same jacks on Costco's website.

$1999.99 + free s/h

WHEN something breaks....take them back to your local store for a full refund.....

http://www.costco.com/Dannmar-MaxJax™-2-post-Portable-Auto-Lift.product.11731656.html

This Costco Sale ends October 6th.

We are here to give back the Garage Journal audience that has been with us since the beginning and very truthful and loyal. If you prefer to buy from Costco please feel free. Dannmar appreciates your business. We are just offering an alternative, while still at a lower price than the Costco deal; for the few that do not have a Costco membership. Plus, it is still cheaper if you are delivering to a home address, and loads cheaper if you are delivering to a business address.

California Sale

MaxJax $1800.00 (Taxable amount) (Costco Taxable amount $1999.00 if ordered before October 6th.)
7.5% Ventura County Sales Tax on $1800.00 is $135.00 $1935.00 plus freight options purchased.

Optional Charges for the Freight Company (Non Taxable)

I feel the Dock Pick up will work best as you go there at your convenience as when they deliver it to your home someone has to be there to take delivery.

Simply drive to the Freight Dock and they will load the equipment in your or your friends Pick up truck. Think of how the friends that will want to use this lift help you get it delivered.:beer::thumbup:

LOL yes because i am just going to pack up a 880lb lift and roll off to the store to return it.

Well, you don't need to carry the entire lift by yourself in one shot.

I own a maxJax. I had no problems moving it by myself, piece by piece, from the drop off point at the bottom of my driveway up to my garage (hill) and installing it.

For the little amount this 'group buy' saves you..I would just buy it from a Costco as well. Borrow a truck from a buddy or rent one from Home Depot.

If you consider that Costco is still making a profit off the sale price (they certainly aren't selling at cost or for a loss)... then Danmar isn't really giving the members here much, if any, of a break over what they sell them wholesale to Costco and others for.

Considering they had the opportunity to sell anywhere from 25-40+ of them at one time, the price should have been *much* more aggressive. (Gabe himself posted- "Since I have counted over 40 potential buyers")

$200 off a $2,000 lift is no bargain. Woohoo 10%. Anyone who knows anything about business, retail, costs and sales know it is more of an insult than anything.

I love the lift, and would have bought a 2nd one.. but c'mon. :dunno:

:lol_hitti

I don't see Costco representatives here being helpful or available for technical advice as we do with this representative. There's value in customer service, and Upshift is giving it. I would rather reward such service with my business.
