Since mine is in the garage, and it stays at mid 40's or higher, I used hydraulic fluid. Have not had any issues, works fine. Although most times i am out there working the temp is higher, run the heater for a while to warm things up before I go out there.

Thanks for the reply. I wanted to use hydraulic fluid as well and read that Dannmar states it is the "preferred" choice.

I used ATF and it seems to work fine. I had some chatter in the cylinders and used some of the CAT anti-chatter and that got rid of the chatter.

AW32 if your going to run it in temps above freezing as ATF has powerful penetrating agents that hurts seals etc.. If you have to run a lift below freezing ATF is recommended.

So after reading this thread and looking at two different versions of the MaxJax installation instructions, just what is "right" for fluid? The MaxJax instructions do not specific one or the other fluid based on ambient temperatures, it simply says "either" fluid is to be used.

Also, check out this older thread about fluids.

And if one fluid has been used, what's involved to switch fluid? Simply lots of flushing?
