Here's my meager MAC collection, aside from a few miscellaneous sockets. This is the longest screwdriver I have, measuring just under 21".

IMG_0296 (1).JPG

There sure are a lot of cheap versions of their notched wooden handled screwdrivers out there!

IMG_0297 (1).JPG

2 styles of markings. Forged in (raised) and stamped. The forge marked wrenches are blank on the reverse. The stamped wrenches are stamped SABINA, OHIO U.S.A. on the reverse.

It is interesting to see the mixed styles in your set; as well as OTG's combination set in post #80.

This C 6 combination wrench has a combination of forged size markings and a stamped logo. The reverse side of that one is blank.

IMG_0303 (1).JPG

I neglected to take back side photos, but the 7/16" wrench says ==== PAT PEND CW14 USA ====

The 11/16" is marked L2 CL222 USA. The middle two wrenches are bare steel and the outer two were chromed.

The hole in the handle of the S 32 was added by a previous owner. The backside of that wrench is also blank.

IMG_0300 (1).JPG

Oops. I almost forgot about this fine example of a 9/16" CLF18 flex-box combination wrench. It looks like it spent some time in the bilge of a boat, but it still works!

Ecstatic to have a great reason to bump this thread!

I was astonished to find this very early MAC 3/8-inch drive swivel socket in a bin of mainly modern chrome and impact swivels. It has a very faint first gen "MAC" logo and "SABINA, O." address, the right construction, model number ("XU146"), and 6-point opening for mid 1940's production. The cat excerpt is from 1946.

Had to dig up this photo to show the 1/2” Frankenstein (top).

I’ve since added a 3/8 shorty model (not pictured) in the flat lever style.

It would be nice to do an updated photo one of these days and include that and the few slider button models like Lugz posted. Besides the 3/8 Frankie, I hope to find the early round head with the swing lever (equally htf). Not to mention the various early 3/4 inchers. There’s a 3/4 Frankie if you didn’t know!

Maybe it's just the angle of the photo, but UNAIU's 3/8 drive MAC X2R has the teardroppiest shape of any teardrop I've ever seen. Combined with the Frankenstein buttons, gives them a really cool look.

Threw this in with my paltry flea score today....1/2" drive 9/16 flex socket. Seems a little primitive to be MAC. Hinge is kind of distinctive as is squarish 1/2" drive end. Ideas?
Obviously I've considered user ID "Mac". Also, If this is a Frankenstein the externally flush hinge looks very professional.

Here is a wrench set I liberated from Portland on my last trip. This was a hoarder's sale, and this was folded in half, on a table near the kitchen, with a price on the outside in masking tape. I picked it up to see what it was, recognized the name, and into the basket it went. Lugz' seemed quite excited about it, so apologies for taking so long to post detailed pix.

The Mechanics' Tool & Forge Co. Sabina, Ohio 5 piece combination wrench set in a roll KC5A, each wrench marked with Size, MAC, C1 - 5, imprinted on 1-4, forged in on C5. Nothing on the backsides. 1/4", 5/16", 3/8", 7/16", 1/2"

I'm not terribly attached to this, so holler if it means more to you. Edit: now spoke for.

Finally got my hands on an X4R (3/8”). It’s been a long time waiting for one. The stamping is ordered just a bit different than Username’s above. Side note: his ought to be an X4R, not an X2R.

Also picked up a nice industrial finish V6R (1/2”). Later MAC logo.

Nice to add these two oldies to the collection today.

Adding an early cad-plated 3/8-drive set to the thread that was posted on a solo thread by x-linking it from there to here. Lots of pieces, including several extension handles and swivels. Ratchet (X2R) and sockets look similar if not identical production to the small 40s set in the cardboard box that I posted on page 1 of this thread here.

I picked up a spark plug wire puller at an estate sale yesterday. The upper part of the handles had been wrapped with electrical tape. After peeling off the tape and doing some cleaning I discovered a Mac label. IMG_5450.jpeg

Found this Mechanics Tool & Forge driver but the shank with the clutch head tip is made by Apex Machine & Tool Co.
Wondering if this was a factory tool, or if someone jammed the Apex shank into a Mechanics Tool & Forge screwdriver handle?

This has a round shank in the square-holed ferrule.

I haven't seen any early vintage MAC tools in the wild in quite some time, so I was happy to snag these two nut drivers at the flea market this morning. A No. ND8 (1/4") and No. ND10 (5/16").

20250704_100214.jpg20250704_100134.jpg

The earliest MAC catalog in the public domain with nut drivers is 1952...

1952 MAC Nut Drivers.jpg

...but we have a gap between 1948 and then, and the quote marks around the name ("MAC") on the handle...

20250704_100256.jpg

...leads me to believe these may be from that period.

You can see how it went from "MAC" (1947) to the stylized MAC, but still with quote marks (1948), before just the stylized MAC, no quote marks, which can be seen at the top of the 1952 catalog excerpt I just posted above.

1947-51 Mac Logos.jpg

But that's all educated guesswork. I'm content to have them and content with "early."

It'll be fun to see if I can run into a few more in person some day.

The handle shape and amber color leads me to believe that Mac was sourcing from Park Metalware.
Indeed. Thanks for mentioning it, Don! As you know, I am a big Park Metalware collector for their early Xcel brand tools (adjustable socket wrench, detachable head wrenches, etc), but not their later Xcelite branded nut drivers, or even later (1951->) post-name change Xcelite, Inc. nut drivers. Beyond just source, this OEM identification very judiciously confirms the production timeframe I surmised for these (1948-1951) strictly from MAC catalog/logo dating.
