I have been looking for ideas on a media closet/area under the stairs for my amp, network switch, etc. I need it to be somewhat dust resistant but still be able to breathe.

Any ideas.

Maybe put a slotted/vented at the bottom of the door that you build. You could attach a fan to the bottom to **** in fresh air. I don't think you'd need to vent the air out to the basement. You could also put some vents in the risers on the stairs to air it out.

I have been thinking about something similar. I am not putting under stairs, but want to keep the stuff cleaner but still ventilated. I am considering pegboard sides or the top with tight window screen covering the inside of the panels to keep **** and bugs out.

Where are the stairs? In the garage, the house, somewhere else? What's the environment like?

Currently the stairs are in the front of the garage. Garage is completely separated from the house.

How much heat will you really be generating? I built a mini media center with a router, switch, and media server (rack-mount computer with 8 hard drives), and the closet does get a little warm, maybe 8-10 degrees warmer than ambient, but that's not hot enough to cause me any worries.

I think you'd have to have a lot of stuff running in there to really justify a fancy cooling solution. And something like an exhaust fan into the attic might end up costing you extra if it ***** up all your A/C.
