Got a product FAIL for you:

http://www.menards.com/main/tools-h...ting-tools/utility-knife/p-1487216-c-9123.htm

The black metal Tool Shop brand utility knife. I think I got this free or almost free after rebate some years back. Anyway, first the knife sections developed a gap at the back and the extra blades stored in the knife started poking out the back! Let me tell you you don't want to feel sharp razor blades poking into your hand! Then I took it apart and put a proper screw and nut at the back to hold together without a gap. That was ok but then the whole knife just split in half in the middle and cracked! This one really is not worth your time and is too cheaply designed and made.

I am however really loving that Dalluge hammer I got last week. The Vaughan/Dalluge hammers are pretty awesome and great value on sale for US made hammers. - Paul

This is the only utility knife I use anymore.

I just bought some drywall compound for my basement workshop project and a jumbo 10 pack of 8' florescent lights and picked up a couple more of those packs of tool wrap on clearance for some of my older ancient tools without any handles on them. That wrap worked really well.

Don't forget, the older 1.5" dia T12 style 8' florescents are no longer made or sold as of NOW thanks to our friendly government overbearing controls on our society. Stores CAN sell out what they have but can't order any more of these 8' ones. So if you have old fixtures, be sure to get your bulbs now to keep them going as long as you feel like. My store was down to a few 10 pack boxes of each style left and that was it. The newer T8 are actually good and more efficient but not as bright as the old T12s were, so for new installs, that is fine, but for legacy lighting, get your stock of bulbs now. I can't stand things being "forced" on me by my government. Free market demand is driving to use the newer lights anyway. They should let us buy old replacements if we wish. - Paul

Has anyone tried the Rugged Wear work gloves?

http://www.menards.com/main/housewa...erformance-glove-x-large/p-1798365-c-7082.htm

Right now they're on sale for $3 before the rebate. The quality isn't quite as good as Mechanix gloves but they fit well. They have an elasticized fabric back and a pigskin palm. I bought one pair last week and used them to cut and stack firewood on Saturday. Even thought they got wet the leather palm held up well, so well that yesterday I went back and bought 5 more pairs.

I've got a few pairs too. Great inexpensive gloves. I would always buy them when they went on sale.

Covered in the new thread, but TODAY ONLY the 18th, you can use your gift card + still get 11% rebate + use the 14% off bag sale, today only! Tomorrow the 11% rebate ends. That is 11+ 11 off of 14 = 33% off when all done on anything in the bag today only! Go go go! You have to go to the menards site and print a bag coupon to get the bag in the store at the service desk! - Paul

Just found this thread. Didn't read all posts yet (but I will).
One of my favorite Menards deals is the "wash cloth" deal. You buy 10 wash cloths for $3 each ($30) and send in rebate and you will get $40 check back in mail, so you gain $10. This deal comes up a couple times a year. I take advantage of it each time. And you can use the $40 to buy tools.

Mentioned this to a friend one time and she said "I don't need any wash cloths". My response was that you could throw away the wash cloths and still come out ahead.
(I use them on my cars, although a few have found their way into the linen closet.)

Link doesn't work for me but if they are what I think they are, they are well worth the $3. I bought half dozen of them.

Oh damn damn damn, I think I'm going to kick myself in the ***. I think I missed a serious deal.

http://www.menards.com/main/heating...rning-furnace-2600-sq-ft/p-202141-c-12809.htm

Regular price $999.99, on sale for $699.99 which would be about $750 after taxes. If I would have realized it yesterday while I was there yesterday. 11% on a $750 gift card = $82.50, plus another 11% once the unit is purchased, another $82.50. That makes the unit about $585.

The $165 rebate could have went towards some duct work.

Last week's 11% off rebate was not valid on gift cards so you didn't miss out on that.

Looking at the rebate form, it states it ended on Feb 1st.

That does make me feel better but as I was shoveling snow, I thought of two more things. I had $150 worth of Menard's gift cards that I used to buy my Kreg jig, if I wouldn't have spent them, I could have used those also. If the deal would have been doable (11%+11%) I could have used my Menard's card on the initial purchase and took advantage of 6 months interest free.

Must have misread it then.

The best deal I saw was the 27ton wood splitter for $899 AR. I looked at it today and it is a nice well built splitter.

Some good deals in the crazy ad:

1. Woodworkers "tri grips" cookies for $2.99 + get one free. I had a thread on these from Sears back in December that was well received. These are real nice for bench cookies and half the price of that Sears deal.

2. 6 Irwin Speedbor spade bits for less than a dollar. Not the best but super deal at that price.

3. Don't need one but good deal on Porter Cable mini-router laminate trimmer for $40.

4. And the freebie starter fluid.

5. 6 piece brushes for $1 and 3 piece roller covers for $3.

I'm there shortly! - Paul

Thanks for the tip on Crazy Days, I walked out of Menards with $75 in free (or nearly free) merchandise. In addition to the stuff mentioned above I got rubber gloves, some cleaning wipes, cheapie lint rollers, and a few other misc small items that were all FWR.

By the way that 27 ton log splitter appears to be a steal at $900, it has a Kohler engine and is very well built. I bought Menards' 24 ton machine last fall for just under $700 and was very happy with it until I saw the 27 ton for only $200 more, it's a much nicer machine. Oh well.

Just a note on the iPad case, it's nice but my wife tells me it will only fit the frst gen iPads that don't have a camera. (I don't care for iPads and don't use one myself so I dunno).

Glad to see some others like this sale too. I can also add, the $4.99 pillow on sale after rebate is quite comfy. I needed one of those. They also have on the other sale going on now a carpet or wood floor plastic chair protector for about $20. I needed one of those and this one is a nice one, made in USA actually. Garden seeds are ridiculously cheap too if your store has any left. - Paul
