I was over there today a bit and did see an "unadvertised special" on a Performax 32" bottom and top cabinet for like $200 total. 75 pound ball bearing slides in it. Not as heavy duty as say the HF ones but for that money, it was real nice, about like the Craftsmen heavy duty line. Bottom chest on it has the two doors that open, so not all drawers. Top chest had 4 drawers. Just thought I'd mention it if anyone would be into that. The Performax are decent toolboxes, while the Masterforce is better of course. - Paul

This might be old news, but I was in Menard's today and they had 4-piece sets of Gearwrench ratcheting wrenches for $12.99. The metric had 10, 12, 13, and 14mm and the SAE had 3/8", 7/16", 1/2", and 9/16". I'm not a big fan of small, incomplete 'sets', but I had none before and I thought the price was pretty good. They also still had the two-piece Channellock set for $16.99.

You mean the 32", right?

http://www.menards.com/main/tools-h...tool-chest-cabinet-combo/p-2182196-c-9188.htm

It was $189 on Black Friday. My Menard's still has stacks of them in the aisle they keep the reclining chairs in because no one bought one. They're pretty crappy. I like that color scheme, but the steel thickness felt like it should be more like $100.

Yeah, I meant the 32 inch. Yes, that is the link. I think it is about the same as Sears Heavy Duty these days! Yes, not nearly as thick as HF ones. Depends what you are looking for and your price level. For the price, I thought worth mentioning. Not a screaming deal or anything. The drawer slides were all quite nice though and 75 pound rating. Actually, here is one I would not mind having at all:

http://www.menards.com/main/tools-h...max-26-tool-chest-cabinet-combo/p-1710231.htm

I'd just like to get it for about the $250 price level for it all ! The HF version is tougher but I don't like the millions of tiny drawer heights all 1" tall. That won't work for what I need. HF should offer another few versions of their boxes with different drawer size options and also sell the top and bottom separately. This bottom is a much better layout even for what I would want:

Does anyone know if you can buy the gift cards, get 11% MIR, and then use the gift cards on an item and then submit that for a 11% MIR as well? Seems like they would have a way to stop you from doing that. Otherwise, I may be doing a bit more shopping. That would be just a tad over a 20% savings. That would certainly be nice once I need to start buying lumber for my garage.

then you could buy new gift cards with the old ones and get another 11%, etc. etc.

I doubt it.

It sure sounds like you can do this. Gift Cards work like cash so they are great for stacking things.

That said, for some items you may be better off buying the gift card and then waiting for another promotion. Some things like Paint typically have a better deal than 11% off. Menards also does a 17%ish off whatever can fit in the bag deal every now and then so there could be a better deal if you are buying small things.

You can't use a gift card to buy a gift card per their rules.

I suspect that this won't be a profitable promotion for them so it may not be back again. Enjoy it while it lasts!

Yes, you can and they are purposely allowing it. Feel free to ask at the customer service counter before you go in.

You cannot buy a gift card with a gift card, so 22% off via MIR is the best you can do. As Joe said, you can also wait for the coming 20% off bag sale and get effectively 31% back in rebates when you combine with your 11% MIR gift cards, as well as additional sales in the future.

Best buy going is to get one of these cards while you can and put as much on it as you plan to use till the next event shows up for the 11% off. Then use your card to buy stuff going forward. Buy more stuff right now after buying the card if you want for 22% off total, or wait till later on and any other sale price to get the additional 11% off on it. - Paul

Use menards card to buy gift cards then use gift card to buy items. 2% on card 11% buying gift card 11% on items. Equals 24% off

Very true. That's what I did on the 31st… bought $4,000 in gift cards on my Menards card, and then picked up the hardwood flooring I needed for my upstairs… good savings! Cheapest it's been is $80 down from $92, the contractor desk would match the old sales price but this brings it in the low $70s!

How well do those dualsaws work? Anyone have one they use? There is also a recip saw version. - Paul

I'm curious too. First time I've seen a recip saw version. Keeps catching my eye each time I'm in the store. (Don't use my current recip enough to get a new one though)

I've seen the circular saw one around for a few years now.

Do not forget about the 11% Rebate on Gift Cards. Gearwrench 4pc down to $9.88 W/O rebate, your local store is having deep discounts on all BF deals. Just ordered a Masterforce 46 inch chest and picked up some pulled pork for $1 a pound.

Whats not to love about Menards?

Hit the Champaign store today.
Didn't see any real big clearance deals.
They did have an assortment of various drill bits on the clearance end cap , a few sets of the 4pc Gearwrench sets at $9.99.
The two piece Vicegrip set at the same price.
Didn't see anything else all that tempting.

Asked one of the clerks when the bag sale was coming up and she claimed it would be in February.

I wanted to get a good framing type hammer but not too huge and heavy and got the Vaughan made Dalluge Dawg 21 oz california framer type today on sale for $9.99 pre rebate. It has a nice feel to it. Waffle head. Hickory handle 18" long. There were two styles on sale, straight wood handle or curved on the end. I got the curved on the end one. Nice US company hammer for the money and confirmed made in USA also. Has the nail starter groove with magnet on the top of the head also. Check it out if you are in the store.

http://www.menards.com/main/tools-h...ed-handle-framing-hammer/p-2203580-c-9143.htm

I also liked the feel of the Dead On brand ones but not on sale. Most awesome was the Dalluge Titanium one for like $89. The one on sale is really very nice for what it is. Good feel. Quality varied a little though. I tried out several before I found the one that swung the best for me. Surprisingly, everyone around in the store stayed completely away from my aisle the entire time I was evaluating the hammer selection.

This one is similar. Many like the Dalluge like this one.

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000MEC7T6/?tag=atomicindus08-20

Also, they had on sale handle grip wrap in the same aisle if you want any of that to wrap any tool handles up. I also like to use the self healing electrical tape for that job for smaller metal tools that need a wrap. I already put the wrap on the new Dalluge hammer and it is really a nice wrap! Self grippy like velcro but not velcro.

I bought ten tubs of shredded bbq pork and ten tubs of shredded bbq beef today.

Each tub has a 50 cents off coupon on it, but you can only use one for each variety. The rest are at the sale price ($1.50). The brand is Lloyd's. They've been in the grocery section for a couple of months and were cheap @ $2.50 before they went on sale.

http://www.lloydsbbq.com/products_shredporkbbq.asp
http://www.lloydsbbq.com/products_shredbeefbbq.asp

So...$29 for 20 pounds of shredded bbq sandwich meat...and then it printed out a rebate receipt (11%). All these years of shopping at Menard's and I still can't get over that I sometimes do a little grocery shopping at the hardware store.

I made out ok during the 11% rebate sale.

I needed some new doors so I bought a $1000 gift card and got a $110 rebate. Then I used the gift card to buy a new storm door, a new entry door, a new interior door, a bunch of trim, and some of the Lloyd's BBQ mentioned above. I used up my gift card ( and then some) but I got a $120 rebate on this purchase. Now I've got a couple of weeks to think about how I'm going to spend my $230 in rebates.

Welcome to the dark side my friend! :)

Nothing like a hammer, some nails, and groceries, all on sale! Now just try to get that theme song out of your head! :willy_nil- Paul

Not too sure you can just now welcome me to the dark side, lol. I've been shopping at Menard's every weekend for almost twenty years. I just don't have any illusions about everything there being good. :lol_hitti

Well then maybe you need to step into the light! :D:bowdown:

I'm about 7 years with Menards myself, but it took me a couple to figure out what to get there and what not to before I really liked them. Agreed, not all is good and we need some FAIL reviews here too as people come across these things. - Paul

Huh, didn't the 11% off start in late December? I don't ever remember it running this long before. Guess I'll have to get some more gift cards.

They have to print the flyers in the newspaper over a month out. They send out something in the paper that says "Back by Popular Demand" implying they just made a decision to extend the promotion when in reality the decision was probably made in October or November.

January is a slow month for retail. People are paying off credit cards from Christmas and it it too cold in Menard's part country to do much outside. I suspect they are going deep with the promotion to see what they can drive into the stores. It will be interesting to see if they do the Gift Card discount again.

I love my local menards. I do most of my shopping there. I need to buy a new bathroom vanity and some insulation for my garage soon so I might have to take advantage of the 11% rebate. I have a master force toolbox and really like it. I am trying to decide on a harbor freight or master force box as I have outgrown my 30" box. I don't have a he near so shipping comes into play with the decision.

I would think that they would be awash in beer in Wisconsin and they could throw a couple of pallets worth into all trucks which are below weight and have a bit of space left over.

They could really draw people into their stores with $12/case beer.

If they sold beer I would have no reason to shop anywhere else. Beer, groceries, toiletries and most importantly, tools. Why would anyone need to go anywhere else?

Got a product FAIL for you:

http://www.menards.com/main/tools-h...ting-tools/utility-knife/p-1487216-c-9123.htm

The black metal Tool Shop brand utility knife. I think I got this free or almost free after rebate some years back. Anyway, first the knife sections developed a gap at the back and the extra blades stored in the knife started poking out the back! Let me tell you you don't want to feel sharp razor blades poking into your hand! Then I took it apart and put a proper screw and nut at the back to hold together without a gap. That was ok but then the whole knife just split in half in the middle and cracked! This one really is not worth your time and is too cheaply designed and made.

I am however really loving that Dalluge hammer I got last week. The Vaughan/Dalluge hammers are pretty awesome and great value on sale for US made hammers. - Paul

Something I discovered: At the Menard's website, under Promotions/Ray's List they have a list of your store's clearance items or one of a kind things on sale. Only problem is I found for mine it was woefully inaccurate. Some things listed just weren't in the store, but some were. You can check it out if you like. May give some idea of things that go on clearance anyway, but YMMV for sure. - Paul

Ditto.
Enjoyed my 11% rebate on items and gift card. Returned the following week when they extended the sale and got another 11% rebate off things I purchased with my gift card. Love it. I agree, they need beer. They DO have Sprechler's root beer, which is made in Milwaukee and pretty good.

Today I went and bought $400 in gift cards and then spent $320 of the gift cards. I bought a new bathroom vanity, a roll of insulation, 2 tubs of the Lloyd's pulled pork and a tom of dog treats. I might have to stop by again later this week to pick up a few more things.
