Got my rebate check in the mail on Saturday and gotta find out if I can use it online. The closest Menard's to me is in Ohio. And that is a bit of a hike

You'll probably be able to wander in ten minutes before closing time and get one with no line, unless you live in the sticks where a lot of people use wood for heat. The only deals that sold out early at the three Menards stores around here were electronics and toys.

So I noticed a few deals of merit in the Christmas Catalog sale, active now actually. They have some MasterForce impact driver bits on sale. A good large set for like $12.99 but of more interest are little packs of long double ended impact bits for $0.99 each after rebate, limit 4 per address. I got some of those yesterday. I've found the MF impacts at least as good as others like Makita, Milwaukee, Dewalt. All are made in china though. Also had some free after rebate ToolShop bits and such, not as good as the MF ones but free. Also had car seat warmers you plug in the car 12v outlet for $5 after rebate deal. Those are nice if you have an older car. Some ideas. - Paul

Good one 77 ! That size is just way out of my DIY Homeowner way of thinking! Good for a pro! (I'm in the 26" wide size way of thinking!). I did notice though Performax boxes are on sale. There are some good options there for DIY, 75 pounds a drawer, and can mix match top, middle, bottoms to get what you want. I think good DIY options if one didn't like the HF boxes for any reason. - Paul

There is no expiration date printed on the checks. I've asked and was told they don't expire. I've
used checks that are over a year old without problem.

Depends on which Quaker State rebate you're talking about. The last one was a real check, the one before that was in store.

The Performax toolboxes are quite decent... better than the Craftsman I've felt when I'm at Sears. I've been eyeing up the bottom and top with the larger drawers to use for parts storage... 1/50th the price of a Lista.
This guy has 7 1.75" or 2" drawers (I forget) plus a larger one:

Yeah, I don't have any Performax boxes but did think about these. I got a Craftsman and a Huskty 26" each from those nice closeout deals on the tall bottom boxes last year, about $100 each or so. They are good, but 50 lb/drawer. Both were assembled in US by Waterloo and almost the same box between them. Much cheaper cost than the Performax ones, even on sale. But this year, these Performax deals look real good compared to about anything else at BF. - Paul

It will be $4.99. I saw it in the store and looks to be OK for a purely battery powered "mini lantern". Could put in rechargeable AA batteries and use it that way, but would have to charge separately from it. I will get one or these. - Paul

Just left Menards... wow. Tons of people picking up piles of mostly complete ****.
Got there at 6:30, walked right in to the log splitter guy in back. I was only the 8th one to pick up a log splitter tag and they had 40 for BF.
Took maybe 5 minutes to check out?
Easy savings of $550!

I just got home from this morning. I got most of what I wanted from Menards, BUT, I had one of the $9.99 doorbuster ShopVacs in my cart! I had to park it for a minute to get something as it was a traffic jam. When I got back it was gone and stolen! I had a bunch in the cart with my ads on top - clearly not a store cart! People are amazing what they will do on BF! So no shopvac for me. - Paul

Bought 2 of the $139 ($99 after rebate) on sale made in USA storage racks. Bought a 27 ton log splitter, bought split my pants when I went to pull it out the bed of the truck. Have to uncrate it in where she sits.

What is the recommended hydraulic fluid to use in a log splitter, label looks like AW-32 would work in normal midwest temperatures? Any suggestion on best place to buy? How about the kohler engine, 10w-40 or is there a better small engine oil ?

The manual calls for AW-32 or AW-46. I looked at some Speeco's that called for AW-46 so I bought that. You can use ATF if always used below freezing.
Engine oil would be 10W-30.

Thanks ishiboo, I have it all assembled and everything fit as it should and no missing parts. Tomorrow I'll grab a qt of 10w30 and 2 gals of AW46 and fire her up. I see some reviews online of the fittings leaking, so they recommend taking them off and re-teflon taping them, but all but the two un connected fittings did I teflon and tighten. The others look good and tight and have teflon on them so I won't redo those unless I make a mess and have leaks.

The online manual I downloaded said 32 or 46, the one that came with it recommended 32. Just FYI.
I don't recommend teflon tape for hydraulic connections, use a liquid instead.
My skid loader is at my friends business for plowing snow (plus it's near one of my rentals so I use it there), so I unloaded it by hand. The beam with the cylinder is HEAVY. What's cool is you can stand it up and then pin it to the trailer and pivot it down. But if you have 2 people, it'd be very easy to do.
Everything is well-made, protected and packed, and assembly was fast and easy. No way I'd pay to have it done knowing how little there is to do!
Can't wait to split some logs

I picked up two of the 27 ton log splitters friday. Wish I would have brought a trailer. anyways ended up fitting both of them in my long bed F-250 after a little persuasion. Got home and uncrated the first one and put it together. looks like a pretty good unit. At the $699 (after in store rebate) price I don't think I could have bought the parts to build it for that. I plan on either giving one of my buddies a good deal on the other one or selling it on C-list in a couple weeks.
Filled it with hydraulic fluid and engine oil last night. The PVC feed hose is leaking at the hose clamp at the tank. Also the manual says add 20 oz 10w-30 to the engine, but it already had some in it so that was too much.

New ad effective now is OUT! Knipex 10" Alligators are $16.99. Actually, all the Knipex seem to be sale a bit. And the really good 7 pc metric or sae FLEX racheting GearWrench sets are back for $30 each. Last year on BF these were like $27 each a set. $30 is about the cheapest you can find these. I love mine - highly recommended sets. Also had an interesting portable plug in led worklight for $10 - 830 lumens. Might be worth checking out. - Paul

Looked at the Knipex stuff at Menards. Most of their deals are 10% off but there is real good deal on the 10" diagonal pliers for $19.99. This is a giant size for a diagonal cutters, which would give good leverage. Check it out if you go over there. - Paul
