Menards in the STL is just about to open here.....can't wait, saving my spare money for a grand opening purchase day
what I don't like about their boxes is the shelf. I personally would never use it. I feel like it is a waste of space.

Seems almost like a bait and switch to me. Their made in the usa sales / fliers could lead many to think most of their stuff is made in the USA, when in fact, most of their stuff is about as cheap as it gets.
Menards is a great store, and it will be great to have the first one open in our immediate area -- nearest is a hundred miles away now. My brother and I have bought many things there that we've been very happy with.
They have a pretty strong commitment to US production. Every summer around the 4th they put out their made-in-USA circular. Everything in the flyer is US-made, and the little town or city where each is made is part of the descriptions. I keep that flyer for months it delights me so.
And to see made-in-China Craftsman ratchet wrenches in Sears just breaks my heart. Like the death of an old friend.
Don
Menard wont expand until the Admin. is out, pretty much, to bad.
fact. they push their tool shop junk pretty hard. something like 20 bucks for an electric grinder. the stuff is just junk. with that said, plenty of decent deals on home stuff like shingles and boards. most people i know go there before home depot.
Why I dislike Menards...
All you ever get from them is store credit. Once they get your money they keep it. They do not have a refund policy worth a darn. Secondly their rebate program is a bait and switch as well. They advertise lower prices till you get in the store and see it is a mail in rebate offer. The rebate is also store credit only as well. They are very misleading just like leading you to believe they are a USA merchandiser. Look around, a lot of it is made in China. At my local Lowes, I find them far more consistent and helpful. I have bought many large items from them and they frequently offer free delivery. Being disabled as well I am treated far better at Lowes, as far as assistance goes. I have more times than I care to recall struggled with a load and had employees walk right past me. Lets add the fact at Meanards you also bag and load your own goods. Their checkout system is flawed. Much like Wally World, 25 registers and one is open. I will admit a deal can be found occasionally but I do more business at Lowes. In my location they are just down the street from each other. Makes it easy to cross shop for the best price. If I had to travel to a Menards I wouldn't take the time. I also will admit I prefer the Masterforce tool box to the Lowes box. Decent price for a decent box.
Ahem.......... I bought an air compressor, with a card. Why I dislike Menards...

The only place I'd rather work less than Menards, is walmart.
Those who are claiming bait and switch should be ashamed of themselves. This weeks flier is nothing but USA items. Every ad has items that are clearly marked USA. Anyone who thinks every item in the store is USA just because of a made in the USA sale is ignorant.
I just got back from my Menards 5 minutes away! Ironically I was just there looking at tools because my local store is in the process of expanding and becoming more of a "SUPER" menards, meaning a lot more tools, many of which are made in the USA and the added the food section too. I don't think I need to go anywhere else now!
