Hello new here with a michelin 3.5 ton floor jack problem.
The jack is about 10 years old. the last time I used it it would drift down .
No external leaks just would not stay up. I took it apart cleaned it out very well and put it back together with new jack oil.It works and does not appear to leak down but I am not sure about the settings of the adjustmet screws.I counted the turns when removing but may not be close enough. It does not seem to have the quick rise anymore.I attached a picture of the adjustment screws. The one on the left has a plug on top of the adjustment screw .I had it all the way down and raised it up 2 turns but did not notice any difference.Anyone have a diagram or info on the adjustment of the screws?

Far Left is Overload If memory serves me, Middle is working valve and the far right is the "Quick Lift" Valve. What is its current setting? Did you double check the valve components to make sure nothing is missing? Generally it will work at any setting (Unless its completely backed off) if the valve components are correct, but if you compress it too much it destroy the Quick Lift Oring or tube, There is a Sweet spot..

This exploded view diagram will show you the Valve makeup of a 3 valve quick lift jack, Ignore the Pump type and location.

See attached pic of the valve components in order as they came out.
Left side parts go in the valve on the left.
I counted 17 turns on the first screw on the left and 4 for the plug on top of it.
11 turns on the middle screw.
4.5 turns on the right screw.

Everything looks correct, Assemble the parts as shown making sure all the parts are seated in the spring upon reassembly. I use a dab of bearing grease to hold them together when dropping them in the hole.

Left valve ---> overload tighten the inner screw down all the way and back it off roughly 1 1/2- 2 turns. The outer cover just needs to be tight.

Middle valve, just tighten it down all the way, it is sealed by the oring.

Right valve ----> quick lift adjustment, start out loose and slowly tighten the plug (which compresses the spring against the upper ball) and pump the handle till you get some feedback on the quick lift side. When the system is operating correctly you should get a full lift with 1 stroke (off of load). Be careful not to overtighten this adjustment otherwise it will force pressurized oil into the quick lift tube and rupture the seal and/or tube, versus bypass.

Sorry for digging up an old thread but I have the same Michelin G-735 7000 lb jack and love it but it has a problem. Over the past 2-3 months I've noticed a small spot of oil on the shop floor after using the jack and it appears to be coming from the ram/piston that the jack handle compresses to lift the jack. I haven't taken it apart yet but figured I'd check here before touching the jack to see if anyone has any pointers for fixing it and where to get parts.

Thanks in advance for the help.

My Guess is you answered your Own Question, If its leaking from the Pump Piston, That would be a very good place to start looking first. It should use a Oring, and they can be sourced at Most Local Hydraulic shops and if you don't have a local shop to show patronage to, you can find them online.

What your looking for is a torsion spring, there is a couple different sizes. Here is a link to a common sized one but you really end to verify the center dimensions to make sure it fits your bolt size. In the past most people just went thru a industrial supplier such as McMaster Carr etc and cut the arms to length.

Hi, I'm curious if either of you guys weren't able to get your Michelin jacks fixed, I have the same one and my wonderfully thoughtful brother lost the jack plate and the rubber pad that sits in it. If either of u weren't and are thinking about tossing it I sure would appreciate a heads up so I could buy them off of you. Thanks!

SFA Companies Has the rebuild kit G73504-0000. $20 includes the shipping

1-816-891-6390 ext 143 ask for Mike

UPDATE ***

I rebult my jack last night with the kit. Some of the parts were not exact matches. It appears there has been some some engineering changes over the years ???

Anyway the critical seals worked and the jack is back on the job.

The jack oil was $6, so for $26 total my 10 year old jack is back in action.

I have a G735 jack which was having some problems keeping its lift.

Tried bleeding it with some bogus instructions I found online.

Initially I had taken out the far left screw... There was another screw head inside, but didn't mess with it.

Didn't mess with the center screw either.

The far right one I did take out. Without realizing it at the time, a small ball bearing, big ball bearing, metal guide sort of thing and a spring had come out.

I put them back in, in that order (initially without the large ball bearing since I found it later), but have since put them back in in that order.

Is this the correct order?

The problem I am having is the quick lift doesn't seem to be working. I've tried as little as 1 turn, and as many as 4.5-5 turns. I counted about that many when I took it out.

Any ideas what could be wrong? Could I be low on oil or something?

Also, I have since found my model appears to have a fill plug. I accidentally found it when it developed a tear amd sprayed oil all over. Where can I find a replacement plug?

Thanks in advance for any help provided!

Well obviously it has to have oil in the jack to operate, that is a easy fix, so pull the fill plug and verify the resting oil level. I would also double check quick lift valve components, which would be the one with the 2 balls/spring/adjustment. If everything is there, tighten it down till you get some lift arm feedback when pumping the jack. It does need to be properly adjusted, because of it is too light and the quick lift will suffer, too heavy and you will rupture the quick lift tube. If it continues not to work you can't completely rule out that the seal(s) have failed on the tube and will require service.

Small ball bearing first right?

Also, when you say rupture the tube, which tube are you referring to? I don't think its ruptured, but any way to verify?

Thank you for the info!

Yes, small ball in the hole first, then the big ball. The quick lift tube is inside the cylinder, you can't really check it till you tear down the Jack. The first sign it is kaput is when you can't get the ram out of the cylinder bore.. :lol_hitti

My thanks to everyone in this thread; I've got the same Michelin branded jack and while I have no current issues with it, I've got great info to get me started from this thread if/when I do need it.

Thanks much.

Hello. I am new to the community. This forum on the Michelin 3.5 ton jack really applies to my jack. Useful info, so thank you. Whenever possible, I fix broken things rather than automatically replace them. I have never rebuilt a hydraulic jack, so now is the time.

My jack is about 10 years old and I never changed the oil, so I now realize that may be part of the problem and I will also change the hydraulic oil.
My Michelin jack drifts down after jacking a heavy vehicle up. I have to now quickly insert a safety jack. The fast lift works fine.
My questions:
1. Can this be fixed just by adjustments?
2. Can I use AW-32 hydraulic fluid in it? This is the same hydraulic fluid I use for my tractors.

I had assumed that I would have to replace o-rings to fix it.

Thank you in advance. :headscrat:headscrat

It's all speculation till you actually tear into the Jack, it could be that the Main Ram seal is failing. I see no issue with using Aw 32 in the Jack, it's been discussed previously.

Went to a truck parts store got a compression spring about 10 mm wide and cut it to the length I needed believe it or not put a bb in the valve floor jack working like a champ.

I rebuilt a 10 year old Michelin 3.5 T this past winter. There was a puddle on the floor under the jack from a leaking seal.
I drained the oil, which was super gross (and should probably be changed every year or two). I took the jack apart without issue, however the nut on the cylinder needed a huge socket from a 3/4 drive set I had, plus a 4 or 5 foot cheater bar. Special care should be taken when removing the guts from the valve ports. Work on one port at a time. Start by carefully tightening the adjusting screws and counting the turns to seat the valve. Back off and remove adjusting screw. Than use a magnet and remove one part at a time from the port. I lined them up on a piece of paper and marked down the turns to close and any relevant dimensions. The check balls were taped to the paper.
I pulled out the owners manual and phoned customer service. A gentleman answered after 3 rings. They do not offer any kit, and had very little advise, but gave me contact info for a couple authorized service centers. I phoned the closest one, and after a few back and forths, ordered a kit. It took almost a month to arrive, but better late than never. The kit came with O rings, U cup, and nylon washers. It did not contain any springs or small steel balls. It had several extra O rings and nylon washers and lacked one crucial O ring which I sourced separately from a local hydraulic supply depot. As they say, installation was the opposite of removal, the leak is gone, the jack lifts fine but I still need to set up the quick lift function.
I have included some photo's. The dimensions for the O rings should not be considered exact, they are my best guesses with the calipers I had.

First photo is the kit, left column is surplus bits, middle column were needed bits, and 3rd column are the bits I purchased separately.
Second photo are the guts from the three ports
Third photo are the release and pump plungers, valve ports and cylinder.
Fourth photo is the cylinder housing, ram, U cup and various bits.

Hi guys, my dad recently gave me a Michelin 3.5 ton floor jack that he came across but it's missing the handle. Anyone know a good place to get a replacement from?

Here's the jack:

You could try customer service. This company makes a number of different makes and models and its likely some parts interchange. 1 877 246 6006.
Otherwise, the handle is roughly 30 inch long, 32 mm (roughly 1 1/4") diameter and has a square 15 mm hole at the bottom to receive the pressure release shaft.

sorry to bring this back

I have the same jack bought 7 years ago and I have never service it until I notice it wouldn't pump higher than a certain height

does anyone has any instruction manual on how to bleed / fill this?

There is only one rubber grommet on top of the cylinder, should I just top it up until it overflow?

Yes.

Replace the plug and cycle it up and down with some weight on it.

Don't fill the reservoir to the point of "topping" it off, the hydraulic system needs some head space to handle the transfer of oil, covering the inner cylinder when looking thru the hole is a good starting point.

Bleeding... Check oil level, Handle in the release position, Pump the Jack handle 6-10 times, Check the oil, Add if Necessary, handle in the Go position, Cycle the Jack.

Hey guys,

I've recently taken my jack (michelin 3.5 ton g-375) apart and found the end of the pump/piston? with a bad cup. It is held in place with a clip. Would someone tell me where I could get the u-cup seal? All the other seals seem in good condition.

If the price is the same, i'd rather buy a kit with all the seals.

Please advise and thanks.

Edward

*update*

I've been reading reading and reading. So I do know from prior posts that "there is a better fitting size, also sold by MFPSEALS.COM, and it is 23.8mm x 39.68mm x 9.52mm."

Is this accurate? If so how do i know which one to pick/order from the website. They have several profiles.

Hello Boilerhouse:
Great information. My jack will not hold a load. I took it apart and found blue crumbs inside. I think it's from that blue seal that you've got in your picture. I can't tell where this seal goes. Can you enlighten me?
