I'm still getting the "Unfortunately we are unable to retrieve your tracking results at this time. Please try again later." It's been a solid 40 hours since I've gotten a tracking number as well.

The fact that some show that they've cleared customs is interesting and may suggest at least some were sold and legit. If I were a scammer I think I'd draw the line at fraudulently shipping something internationally...that's a pretty serious level of scam.

I'm having the same issues with my tracking number. Here's what i sent the seller-

"My tracking number does not appear to be working. Is there anyway you can look into that or show that the welder has been recieved by fedex. A few others that bought welders after me have their tracking numbers working and already show delivery over the next few days. Yet mine says "Unfortunately we are unable to retrieve your tracking results at this time"

His response about 30 minutes later -

"You are on the cue, you should see updates later this evening, I will monitor this also , Thanks"

Just sent him a similar message, his response was:

"You will start seeing details on it as soon as its in FedEx hands, we consolidate and bring all boxes across the border for fedex collection this way you pay no taxes or duties . . . As soon you start seeing movement on it it will come pretty fast to your location"

Interesting that some of the first buyers (such as the OP) are having no luck with tracking numbers. I ordered a couple hours after this thread was started and my tracking number is still saying "Unfortunately we are unable to retrieve your tracking results at this time. Please try again later."

Curious how the shipping between Canada to USA works out. I'd hate to end up paying a bunch of $ extra for customs or whatever.

I wish there was a deal like on a TIG welder
I know that going from USA to Canada, the buyer is responsible for taxes and duties etc. The killer I'd brokerage fees. UPS is brutal, not sure about FedEx.

It is the same going the other direction. That is why I use the US Post office when dealing with Canada - it is so much cheaper in the end for boxed parcels.

The brokerage fees are separate from the actual customs duty too. The fee you pay UPS is for the privilege to use their customs clearing house. The only way around it is to drive to the border to intercept the package and have them use the US CBP customs house.

There's a lawsuit against UPS in Canada for this, maybe their legal team is more savvy on this side of the border because I haven't seen any mention for the reverse (though the practice is the same).

I think last time, I paid $40 for a pair of $200 headphones. Not sure if the package value matters, or if it's by weight, or a flat fee.

No. UPS will not release the item to you until you pay up.

This.

This is the reason I didn't buy one because I was worried about the customs fees and eBay and Paypal offer no "protection" from US Customs...

wouldn't this apply?:

U.S. made goods returning to the United States are usually eligible for duty-free treatment. The provision 9801.00.10 in the Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) allows U.S. made products to return to the U.S. without duty requirements.

Thats whats I was going to look for. And should apply here. I know its applied to shoes made in us, retailed in Europe, then sold back to us buyers. Typically its requested to write, or in the declarations to disclose that the items were made in usa.

I asked him about ensuring a receipt was included and here was the response. Also mentioned the taxes and duty fees.

"Dear 817*********,

Receipt will be in pouch inside box

You will start seeing details on it as soon its in Fedex hands, we consolidate and bring all boxes accross the border for fedex collection, this way you pay no taxes or duties... As soon you start seeing movement on it it will come pretty fast to your location,"

Cheers

Before I even submitted an offer, I asked and he said he would include the original receipt if I purchase a welder. When I paid via PayPal, I left a message reminding him to include the receipt. I'm not sure if he's going to include a receipt with every welder or only for those who asked. We shall see.

My scheduled delivery date just changed from 6/22 to 6/23, yet there was no "Travel History" change. Weird. Tracking updates often seem to make little sense, though.

Same here, but mine says Thursday :( I guess I'll be able to know if my box will be filled with rocks before I open it up ;)

Well back in the day people used to put cinder blocks into older heavy VCR machines and retape the boxes. My ex father inlaw was driving a fork lift in a rough part of Miami back in the late 80's and got taken by that scam. He didn't get a chance to stop and open the box, until he got off the forklift minutes later. By the time he figured it out it was to late and the guy was gone.

Does anyone have the seller's contact info. I might be interested in seeing if he has any more or buying one that someone backed out of/never paid for.

How long before you have to pay?

After I told him my concerns about having already spending over $1K for the plasma cutter, and not sure what the real story was, he said to pay when I was comfortable that it wasn't a scam. I'm paraphrasing, but that was the gist of it.

I'm torn on what to think. Either he really is legit, or the best slow-playing scam artist of all time. I'm a cynic by nature, so I'm quick to jump to conclusions. However, something in me says this is all going to work out.

Here's hoping he comes through!!!
