FWIW, it's not just an Internet crime. The fact that Fedex was involved in the scam and it crossed state/international lines makes it also a mail fraud case. I've seen postal inspectors investigate such things with less $ involved. Sorry for the folks that now need to deal with this hassle...
Ummmm Sorry Fedex is a corporation it has nothing to do with United Stated Postal Service. The Postal Police will not get involved..
On another note, has anyone mentioned what the return address was on the envelopes? Legit at all, or some ******** address?

I'm fairly sure if he was smart enough to dupe 200 people out of several hundred dollars each, he would be smart enough not to put his real address on the envelope. Just sayin'...

Wouldn't Paypal likely be insured on something like this? Like how appliance dealers offer free appliances if the local team wins the Superbowl?

anyone by chance able to send their package in to get it fingerprinted? would be a nice ending if he left prints and was in the system...
I doubt it. They just write it down as a loss, then don't pay taxes on it, then jack everyone's fees when their profits are lower.
Oh wait, I doubt they pay taxes anyways.
Their corporate office is in MD...trust me they pay taxes. This state taxes businesses so much that they are leaving in droves to go to places like Texas.
I think it's been said a few times in this thread already: law enforcement does not care and they will not be involved in this. This type of fraud, along with identity fraud, various scams, etc is absolutely rampant.
You'd need a dedicated agency staffed with tens of thousands of people, field offices around the country, liasons worldwide, and a massive budget just on this problem alone to make any traction.

Sorry my friend but it's the same thing. I'm not gonna go into detail, but fedex and ups are under the same laws that gov usps in mail fraud. Mail fraud doesn't mean usps only...

yeah but my point was, anybody know a LEO that could run them just to find out who it really is...expose the guy like they do on the pirate4x4 site...You know, Jim Rockford would find a way...

.........
Law enforcement is only likely to be involved if PayPal or eBay or some other large corporate entity decides it needs to be. They know what buttons to push to get LE involved. Deal with them and don't waste your time fantasizing about following the FBI tac team on a no-knock warrant because it's not going to happen. Sorry to be blunt, I can sympathize and it's very frustrating to see that this happened to you guys.
I wonder this...
Since it's office paper, torn from a pad of paper... could they lift fingerprints from it?
Also, since it involved overseas shipping (Canada to the US) wouldn't it be in the FBI's purveyance now?
Too bad none of it went through the mail... Postal inspectors are bulldogs.

Do you think the authorities would be interested in the contents of these envelopes/packages to look for fingerprints, etc.
This appears to be a high dollar scam. I would think someone (whatever entity is going to be reimbursing those who participated in this auction for example) would be very interested in nailing the perpetrator.
Best regards,
Scott
Finger prints? unless he was the unabomber or a terrorist, no one is going to dust for finger prints.
No. Internet crime is so low level these days. Nothing will be done about it at all.
I really dont know how true that is.
YEars ago I got screwed over by a seller in Florida for about $1500. I contacted the local PD as well as these guys.
http://www.ic3.gov/default.aspx
I talked to officers at both locations and the local PD paid a visit to the dude so he shipped me a box of broken parts. Paypal ended up recovering the money months later.
With the size of this scam I would definitely contact IC3
You can't just run prints, you have to be working a case in order to run prints, that is if you had any good ones. No police officer is going to risk his job to run a set on prints to out someone. Every time I run a license plate, a driver licenses, or someone by name and dob, it get noted into the system. If the person you ran is arrested for lets say murder, or other serious crimes it will show a record of every officer that has done a check on the person. It's not gonna happen.
That only works on Hollywood cop shows and movies. Like said above there is a trail of information. You can't just run a person's information without cause let alone submit a piece of paper to forensics and have them process it just "because".
My claim has been settled and should receive a full refund on my card in 3-5 days.
Did you go through PP, Ebay, credit card, or what?

I just got off the phone with PP. They told me to refuse the package. Once they see the package has been refused, they will issue a full refund in 3-4 days.
(I don't have an active PP account either...I paid through them using a CC)
Well i found this sight today after doing a search for user Ebay user gillaca, i ordered a Pm45 a week or so ago from him, you guys that got a piece of paper i got you beat, i got a Betty Crocker non stick cooling rack for my $1495, already got a claim filed with eBay and PayPal, lesson learned!
