That's been covered earlier: because it prolongs the scam. These guys did a good job of being thieves. If an item shows shipped, it satisfies eBay and PP and makes the transaction look legit, as if it's normally progressing, buying the seller more time. It's all about making eBay think you're doing what you're supposed to do.

Yes I understand that. But all you need is an envelope and a label. Why waste time folding up paper? Just ship good ol Canadian air.

Dang...this thread was locked the last time I tried to reply :dunno:

As much as I hated to with so many members being scammed, the drama got too bad. I closed it for about 24 hours hoping the BS would die down and those making relevant posts would come back.

Glad to see PP is taking care of those involved members.

Guess my name is on the list of suckers. I got my very expensive generic battleship yesterday.

I skimmed the umpteen pages of this post.

I have started a case with Ebay. I have to wait 3 business days for the seller to reply (or not) before ebay will get involved. As it took 2 weeks to get this item, I hate to wait another week for them to get involved. I assume the seller is long gone and think any delay in action just puts more distance between him and me aka my money and me.

I will try to go through paypal. Hopefully my ebay request doesn't make things more complicated then it already is.

got my money back today in one phone call to Paypal. I guess there are notes from upper management about this account already and they've been told to push things through.

For all who don't have their money back, call Paypal again. Enough people have gotten their money back with one phone call over the past day or 2 that you should not get off the phone until the case is closed.

Was there people that didn't get their $ back?

Yea, just keep calling. I followed up yesterday, from a Monday afternoon call and got it closed and credited back from PP. Should hit the card in a day or two. Ebay rep was less than helpful the first time I called.

They simply read off a script when I call and say I have to wait the full time period. Typical PayPal suckage that they're telling other people there are notes.

Any Miller or Hobart item. I bought 2 spool guns with the intent of reselling them. Figured it would be easier than trying to sell more personal-preference items (gloves, helmet, etc). But it was a little over $400 so I could have done better, but Zoro's site gets hammered during the coupons so I did what I could.

Opened my claim with PP 6/23 and missed notification that they needed a response after knucklehead gave them tracking info (that's still not valid 1 week in).

No. Everyone got $400 welders, you missed out big time.

Why even click if you're not going to bother to read?

IF YOU'RE LOOKING FOR A DEAL ON THIS WELDER, IT WAS A SCAM.

Why hasn't this thread locked yet?

It was locked, for about 24 hours for the BS to die down. I've edited it several times to keep the drama out. It's still open because your fellow members are reporting in as to what is going on with their cases with Paypal/Ebay or their CC charges.

I have also placed an EDIT in the thread originator's first post.

Moderator edit:

If you are just turning in, this turned out to be a scam by an Ebay user. Please to do not attempt to order one through the link provided in the post. This thread has been closed, reopened and edited many times. If you're stopping by for the drama or to start some, I suggest you go elsewhere. This thread remains open for your fellow members that have been scammed so they can inform the others involved.

I got swindled as well. Thought I could trust a fellow Canadian:)
I suspected something was wrong when my lowball offer was immediately accepted on eBay. After reading eBay rules I was then obligated to complete the purchase. I was certain it was fraud when the FedEx tracking indicated that it weighed 0.1 lbs and his Feedback on eBay became Private. The latest count is 48 negatives in the last month.

All I got was some crumpled up yellow paper instead of a Miller 625 Extreme.

I've initiated a claim through eBay and PayPal Canada. Hopefully they will be as quick with a refund. A valuable lesson learned.

Just got off of the phone with Ebay. Submitted my claim right when the package of paper arrived, called them and was told I need to wait the three days. So I waited the three days, and their system wouldn't allow me to ask them to step in. Just called and was on the phone for 30 minutes as they researched. I am now told that they escalated it, but I need to file a police report and send them a copy in order to receive my refund.

Did anyone have to do that? Should I just call back and try to get someone else more helpful?

Call PayPal instead of EBay.

Just did. Said they treat every case individually, and they will look into mine and allow the seller 10 days to respond. But EBay said I need to respond with a police report in 10 days or I forfeit my ability to get a refund.

How are you guys getting such prompt refunds? Is it because I actually received a package?

You're really not obligated though. I had a buyer stiff me and eBay basically does nothing. They supposedly put a "note" on his account but it doesn't go into feedback 'cause the whole thing winds up voided IF the seller complains. I very much doubt this guy woulda ever complained so eBay likely would have done nothing to your account.

I'm not encouraging backing out on an offer, but if after you submit your offer something screams scam, you can not pay and have little fear of much anything "bad" from eBay.

I got the same email from Ebay. Called PayPal this morning and have a refund issued within 10 minutes of being on the phone. I should see it on my card within 2 business days according to the lady on the phone. PayPal phone number is 1-888-221-1161.

I just noticed this gillaca ebay guy made his feedback private.. didn't know you can do that..

I'm surprised ebay actually allows this.

"Private Feedback - This member, gillaca, has decided to make his/her Feedback comments private. Feedback can still be left for this user and the Feedback ratings left are shown above in summary format. Learn more about private Feedback."

Following that link: "When you choose the “private” setting for your Feedback Profile:
You can’t sell items on eBay."

I was really hoping to read some of the feedback you guys left. :(

I will definitely trust my gut the next time and not follow through with the purchase. I had filed a return request via eBays website and today was the day for them to "step in and help". However I kept getting an error message saying that "you are not authorized to perform this function at this time" even though it was clearly giving me directions to do so.
I ended up calling and was quickly put in contact with a customer care agent who looked into the problem (some kind of mixup up since I was on eBay Canadas site). In any event she has escalated the claim and has indicated that it will be taken care of within the next 48 hours and that eBay is aware of the problems with gillica. My advice is to phone to get faster service as their online claims process seems very cumbersome.

I went through the exact same thing you did Kevin, but for some reason they required me to file a police report to prove that I didn't actually receive the welder. I told them they had to know this was a scam, just look at all of the other claims, but they said they "treat each claim separately". Well whatever, had a sheriff's deputy stop out to my house to file a report, emailed that report number to eBay yesterday, and today they issued the refund.

Have you had any recent negative activity on eBay/PayPal?

They haven't asked yet but filing a police report was one of the first things I did in order to have something on record. I also recorded the opening of the package just in case they need that info as well.
I will update again when I hear back from eBay.

The reason for the police report is to make sure YOU are not part of the fraud. File a false report... it becomes a more serious crime. It's also why insurance claims require a police report.

You should be golden with ebay.
