I thought I could get away with buying a "ever so, slight off-color" difference on the steel sheeting and flashing. I was wrong.
The color of the building is proprietary for the company I purchased it from.

That being said, a new steel building materials outfit recently opened for business not far from my place, so I figured I'd get away with not having to drive the 7-hours (one-way) to purchase "exact-match" materials.
The trim I bought locally is an exact match, but the roofing and flashing is slightly off color, which is noticeable in the mid-day sun. It's close, but no cigar.

I called the manufacturer yesterday to order the correct color sheeting and flashing. It'll be in will-call on Monday. My bride and I will make a road-trip out of it and stop for an overnight stay at her sister's place (who lives in the general direction), to break up the driving time.

The slightly off-color sheet I purchased locally will not be a loss. I'll use it for the underside (ceiling) of the awning, which I had planned to install a lighter color anyway.

So, now I'm at a stand-still on this project. A break from the shop build was needed.

Granddaughter (in Kansas) fell sick last week.
Daughter needed to go to work. Son-in-Law was working out of town, so we volunteered.
Last Saturday, wife and I drove to Kansas to stay with our granddaughter while her mom goes to work.
Granddaughter recovered while we were there. She rode home with us and will stay until after Christmas.

On the trip home, we traveled through Oklahoma, then stopped in north Texas to pick up the materials I ordered last week. We arrived home a couple hours ago.

Now I have the materials I'll need to finish the south door awning, along with the north door awning.

The material is still sitting in the bed of the truck. I fell sick the day after we returned home. Head and chest cold. I've been coughing up nasty stuff ever since. I'm almost certain it was caused by sleeping on the air mattress at daughter's house. I had a blanket under and over the sheets but was still a bit cool. Next time we go back in the winter months, we'll rent a hotel room.

I don't see much happening in/with the shop until late next week.

It's been a while since I've posted.
I've been dealing with a real nasty chest cold for ~4 weeks. It has finally subsided and can now work outside.

Wife and I began on the installation of the steel roofing on the south door awning today.
We were able to install one panel before lunch.


One of my neighbors, who has been wanting to help came over and we install the remainder of the panels. We began to install the transition flashing, but it was too tall. In the morning, I'll bring the flashing to the local steel retailer to have cut and bent, then I'll install it.


After that's done, I'll begin installing the ceiling on the underside of the awning frame.

Yes.
I gave the steel supplier the measurements. I thought there would be enough room for the upper (vertical) part of the flashing to slid behind the soffit. I didn't take into consideration the building's frame. It's a rookie mistake for sure.

The vertical part of the flashing it too tall, causing the transition to the roof pitch of the awning to be too low, if you catch my explanation.

After dropping off the flashing at the local steel retailer yesterday morning, they called after lunch to say it's ready for pick up. That was quick!!
It was too windy to install yesterday and now it's raining. A front is traversing our area at the moment, but sunshine will fill the skies this afternoon and also, for the next two days. Hopefully we'll get a chance within that parameter.

Yesterday, I began building the form to pour a concrete slab for a lean-to on the rear of the shop.
The lean-to will be 10' deep by 20' wide.
The drive on the north side of the shop, where the tractor is parked, will also be extended and additional 10'.


This morning, fill dirt was delivered.



Moved dirt into form.


Dirt graded within form.

A footing, 2' deep x 1' wide will be dug next to the form board.
I'll be gathering rebar and keyways tomorrow.

I was able to do some finish grading on the lean-to pad and install the keyways. I even set in some plumbing.









The footings are not yet complete. Need vinyl sheathing to cover the fill soil and a few rebar chairs.

Most common reason is for a vapor-barrier, but not in this case.
In this case, the fill soil I'm using is River Silt. It's a mixture of sand/clay. It's preferred because it's easy to move and work with. It also compacts very well.
I place the vinyl over it to help prevent it from washing into the footing during a heavy rain. If not covered, I'll have to dig the soil out of the footings again.

Local weather guy is predicting 90% chance of rain tomorrow, then clear skies Friday.

Concrete finisher stopped by this afternoon. All looks good. Concrete delivery is scheduled for Friday at 10 AM. I'll pick up the track-type concrete buggy early Friday morning.

The concrete company has a minimum of 6 yards delivery, so I readied another 1-cubic yard area next to the house garage.

Concrete company called to ask it they could deliver at 9AM. I said, sure thing.
I contacted the concrete finisher, and he was all for it. The earlier, the better.

On a side note, the extra cubic yard of concrete will go here, next to the wife's garage.

Fill dirt delivery scheduled for this morning, to back-fill along the slab.
Then a pallet of Sod to cover the dirt.
I made a list of materials needed to build the lean-to roof.
Going to buy those items next week.

I move the tractor and ZT onto the slab to check the fit. Still room for more equipment.
