So I have a chance to buy a nice shape xmt 304 from a neighbor who is moving at a very very good price. It does not come with a wire feeder. Do I have any other options then getting a 22a feeder at over a grand? This is for my own personal shop. 06c0f8fe463e435aac15f385f1da084a.jpg

You can use the 8 or 12 RC feeder with the control cables to get full remote control at the work site. Those are sometimes available on Ebay where I found mine with a 400 amp new Benard Gun. I paid $800 for mine that even has remote display's . It will also do scratch start DC tig and stick welding with the right hookups. They are a multi mode machine that works very well.

Any Miller feeder with a 14 pin connector will work, 22A, 74 and several others. A suitcase remote control like a S22p12, 8 RC or 12rc will work. Suitcase voltage sense like a Miller S 32 p12, 8 vs or 12vs , or Lincoln ln-25 will work and be your easiest hookup. On the XMT you have a MIG setting for a remote control or a MIG vs setting on the function switch.

The XMT is an outstanding welder. If the welder is priced right, get it.

It is not too difficult to find a feeder for under a grand.

I'd like to get one with arcreach, we ended up with a 12vs arc reach unit but our bobcats can only run it as a vs unit. ***** walking all the way back to the power source to make an adjustment or fine tune things

Miller inverter welders have an awesome arc! I have a maxtron 450 setup with a s22a feeder and stick weld leads. They weld very smooth and powerful. The stick welds are easy to start and just look great! I would definitely recommend the setup you have with a feeder on it. More versatile, with the best overall performance! I would suggest the wire feeder with 4 drive rolls, since they feed the best. The s22a is a little cheaper but works good too. Here is my setup!

I have the same xmt and picked up a miller s64 off ebay back around 2005 for 3-400 bucks. Back when you could find all kinds of good deals. Think it came from a shop and had to put new rollers in it and some other stuff but it works great. Think it needs a new gun, think the liner worn out but I don't weld much so for now it works. I also bought a miller spool gun for it but never bought the gas and got it hooked up. If I remember right the only thing the xmt can't do is stainless and I got the spool gun to do that and aluminum. I could be off on this, like I said I don't weld often. I just ran into the deals so picked up the stuff and have it if I ever need it.

Just wanted to give an update. Ended up snagging a wire feeder off CL last year (300 bucks) and finally got it all wired up in the shop. THIS THING IS A BEAST. Both stick and wire have great control.
