Totally agree with your points there. Hard to jump ship and add another battery platform. Milwaukee prices are high. I really want the M18 car charger, but I won't foot the $100 for one. The Ryobi charger is $39 and I may just convert it with a 3D printed M18 adapter.
I gave a friend the M18 12v charger as a gift along with a waterpump and a couple of XC batteries she had me get for her landscape business. I also tossed in an AC multi charger cuz I have so many of them hanging around she said the DC only charger was wicked slow compared to the AC unit she used at night to recharge batteries for the next day.
I've just use power invertors in my vehicle when I need remote charging on my jobs.
A tiny 140W plug in will do the straight M12 charger no problem
But you do need 400W for the multi
