$ per watt hour, genuine M12 batteries are a pretty bad deal: they price an M12 6.0 at about the same $10/Ah as an M18 6.0, but the M12 only has 3 cell banks compared to the M18's 5 cell banks. imagine the profit margin on an M12 3.0 pack, there are literally only three 18650s in there and it sells for $32 on a good sale

While I'm not really tempted to try the chinese M18 batteries because they don't make 21700 versions yet and the genuine M18 $/watt hour is fine, if I needed a bunch of M12 batteries I'd be way more tempted to go knockoff because both genuine and knockoff are 18650 and the price difference is huge. I don't have any M12 tools where I do sustained work though so the couple batteries I have are plenty

It's a ridiculous deal. People would pay that just for the two batteries! Makes me wonder if Milwaukee is coming out with a new version of the hackzall? Honestly the existing one is already very heavy duty and slots in nicely below the M18 Fuel Hackzall (or maybe they are moving away from the M12 Fuel version altogether).

I'm tempted to pick up another but not sure I want the hassle of parting out a kit...also thinking that gray market prices are going to drop on these.

A new hackzall would probably be something announced at NPS in late summer and then released in the fall. So it's probably as others said above that they're clearing out inventory that's been sitting on the shelf for to long. They don't want to deal with people getting dead batteries.

What do you guys think about the front page deals from northern tool listed here:

https://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=436345

I'm still on the hunt for a high torque impact (and an m12 impact driver) - any thoughts on this m18 impact deal? I could use the light, batteries, charger, and sockets but not the other stuff, so it might not make sense for me. Seems good for the amount of stuff included...?

google the northern tool part number, the grinder is 2680 which is non-fuel

my deal analysis:

it's 15Ah of the older non-ho 18650 batteries, worth maybe $150 or a little less

plus 2767 impact which trades for $180 on ebay (sometimes less, this one has had a few really good kit deals in the past)

plus 2680 grinder which trades for $80-90 on ebay (but it's non-fuel so you probably don't want it)

so... it's worth maybe $400 before bag, sockets, light and impact condom. I guess it's ok. personally I would go a la carte on ebay, go for the 21700-based batteries, and skip the non-fuel grinder. ebay stuff is mostly grey market but if you pick the right sellers you won't have problems

Basically a "get these off our shelves" deal. Good if you dont require higher tier gear.

But im waiting till gen 2 or 3 for the high demand tools like grinder, circ saws, table saw, etc... or at least FUEL version before commiting.

My gen1 circ saw is meh, FUEL grinder is OK, needs big ah/ho batts to perform tho.

While they never called out replacing the Fuel 2780 grinder, I would consider the 2980 to be pretty close to a Gen2. Designed with HO batteries mind, rated as a 13amp grinder. CPO had a few for $150 after 11% off the other day. There is the Gen2 circular & rear-handle options.

Only thing to wait on is a 10" table saw. I won't muck around with 8-¼” blades. Will cost too much over time, compared to widely available 10"s. I did see the table saw tonight for the first time. Dang that is tiny.

Any recip saw blade will fit.

6" is pretty standard.

Stroke is the real key to performance in general...
the amount of distance the blade moves back and forth :spit:

Knock urself out pruning trees and throw a 9" Diablo in it :D

Any standard recip saw blade should work. I’ve had a 12” pruning blade in mine. Wasn’t nearly as fast as my M18 fuel sawzall, but it got the job done through an 8” tree limb.

Hah I’m not gona cut an 8” limb so should work on tree fronds like butter.
I did it once with an electric Sawzaw with way less dust compared to a chain saw.
$117 with bigger battery seemed like a good deal.
Trees need trimmed hence my excuse to buy it.haha

Do yourself a big favor when trimming palm fronds and buy a high quality Japanese hedge shear. One whack and done.
Here is what I use on anything up to full size Washitonia:

Ha ha funny DFB, but seriously, I think the M12 Hackzall has a 1/2" stroke and the M18 Hackzall has 7/8", yes? So the M18 should make a faster tree limber if stroke is the important variable...

PS: $25-75 off Milwa bare tools at ACME with MILWBARE

5/8 vs. 7/8 stroke for the two fuel hackzalls. I haven't seen any detailed teardowns but they're essentially the same tool (same size and weight and shape, probably almost all the same parts) with different battery connections and then I assume they change the motor windings and the cam bits to modify the stroke. and the m18 has a pivoting shoe

M12 Hackzall is 1/2" for brushed & 5/8" for Fuel

M18 Hackzall is 3/4" for brushed & 7/8" for Fuel

I never tried a M12 but I had a M18 then sold it & got the M18 Fuel. I was able to tell a difference. The pivoting shoe was a nice upgrade too.

Some of the you tube video comparision tests easily show how the M12 FUEL cuts faster than the non Fuel M12 but not quite as fast as the brushed M18 so ya blade stroke is important factor in equation as is the motor power

The brushed/non-Fuel Sawzall has a pivoting shoe (tends to be super stiff though), but it's location in/out relative to the rest of the body is fixed. The Super Sawzall has a sliding shoe that also pivots.

Probably already mentioned (sale started Nov 1) but if not, links. Making no claims as to how good or bad the deal is, just a heads up on a sale. I imagine deals only get better as we get closer to Black Friday.

Several Milwa cordless kits $99 each sale at toolnut

God I'm hoping for some 21700 cell M12 batteries. Highly unlikely though. A leaked picture shows a 4 pack battery deal for Black Friday,

21700 will not fit in the handle of any of the current M12 tools.

The "21" is the diameter which is 3mm more than an 18650, so two side by side would add 6mm or almost a 1/4". While a longer 18mm battery is possible, it is highly unlikely because of the tooling costs.

earlier in this thread someone mentioned a Milwaukee patent on pairing 21700s in the base with 18650s in the handle. I haven't seen the patent myself

also, there are Chinese M12 batteries you can buy today with 3s3p (3 series, 3 parallel) 18650 cells and 9Ah capacity. even if they're only medium quality cells they're still going to perform pretty well because you get three of them. the genuine Milwaukee 6Ah is 3s2p. my guess is you won't see much benefit on an actual tool since the tools will have been produced in the context of Milwaukee's 6Ah being the best they'll ever get

I picked up a pair of non-fuel 3/8 in a kit with the screwgun, charger, one 1.5 amp hour battery and a bag on home depots deals of the day last week for $99

https://www.homedepot.com/p/Milwauk...h-Battery-Charger-Tool-Bag-2401-21R/310446584

Sold the two screw guns for $35 each and the spare charger and bag for $20. So i ended up with $110 +tax in two ratchets, two batteries, one charger, and a bag to keep my heat gun and tips in.

Looking at one of the M18 Fuel combos at HD, and it has 2 tools that I already have so Im trying to figure out what a fair resale price would be:

2861 Mid Torque
2780 Grinder

Id probably just sell them on here instead of dealing with eBay or Craiglist, if possible

Could you post a link. I didn’t see a mid torque as one of the options.

FML. Even better deal on the M12 Fuel Hackzall... kit with 4ah battery for $117 with free 6ah battery.

https://www.cpooutlets.com/milwauke...ng-saw-kit-with-xc-battery/miln2520-21xc.html

Mine came in today. I wasn't planning on keeping the hackzall, but it seems pretty decent. The bag was way better than expected; it fits the M18 grinder, 2 batteries, and charger perfectly. And of course, the crown jewel of the kit is the 4.0 and 6.0 batteries!

Killer deal, thanks for posting!

I bought a 2794-22 open box from International Tool for $229 plus tax. ($249 + $20 off over $100).
Kit contains the 2720 Fuel sawzall, 2604 Fuel hammer drill, 2 batteries and charger.

Not sure what batteries it comes with. The Milwaukee website for the combo is misleading. The p/n for the batteries is 1.5 AH, but the what’s included section says 4.0 AH. The photos match up with the 4.0.

Either way it’s still a decent deal.
