Like any hobby, you get as invested as you want to be. If you want it to be where you just download files from the internet and hit print, I would suggest leaning towards a really nice printer like the Prusa brand, which you can even mostly assembled. If you are on a tight budget, Creality and some of the clone companies make printers under $200, but be prepared for a few hours of patient assembly. I went this route, and glad I did because I understand how it works fully now, but that certainly isn't for everyone.I got to get myself a 3D printer but just really don't want to go down another Rabbit hole.
How much time and effort does it take to get a printer setup and running properly? I imagine your always fiddling and making adjustments. Are most files free if not what is the average cost?
There are a lot of files for free but really depends on what you are looking for. I would say just go thangs.com or thingiverse, search for something you would like to print, and see if it costs anything.
