Let the freezer ice over. Helps a TON.

If it has ever been tipped on its side, good luck getting it to be cold again. I had one that would almost freeze a can of soda. After leaning it over to fix a loose door hinge, it would never get anywhere near that cold again.

You may have damaged it. You need to let anything with a compressor sit upright for at least double the amount of time it was tipped before you start it.

I think letting them "Ice Over" is the key in a hot area. I have one in my Garage that during the summer is exposed to 99+ degrees every day, and its got melted in slots, that whatever I'm drinking has established. The rest of the fridge is cold, just not close to freezing.

I lead a charmed life. I bought one when I was in the service.... The fellow who owned it got busted and reduced in rank until his "hold baggage" allowance was so low that he couldn't ship it home from Vietnam. I paid him $ 25.00 for it, shipped it home in 1972, and I now have $ 25.00 invested in it, total. Still works perfectly.

I have one of my kids dorm fridge in my shop that came back from when she was in college, I keep bottle water, beer, and sealants (loctite, etc) in it. It gets over 100 degrees during the summer in my uninsulated metal shop, are my drinks 32 degrees? no but they are cold enough to drink in the summer heat. IMHO these are too cheap to repair, if its not working trash it and get a replacement or a used normal size fridge, YMMV

I have a gas/electric that came out of an old camper some 25 years ago, it has been running non stop for that time. It's built into the wall in my garage, I keep is stocked with water and soda. I do have to unplug it about once a year to defrost the freezer part. It's a bit bigger than the little dorm units and it's wood grain to boot :bounce:

I forgot to mention in my post above....When I bought the Mini-Fridge, I brought a rental car instead of my daily driver(in the body shop). Not thinking I wheeled it out to my ride and had to lay it down across the back seat. I got it home, and unloaded it, but it was several days before I actually plugged it in. Its been running out there in 100*+ heat every summer no problem for the last 13 years.

I paid $20-30 for mine used from some college chick. Frigidaire branded with a compressor. On lowest setting, keeps my beer cold most of the year. I think I unplugged it for most of January in MN this year... I used to have a neat old vintage fridge that worked awesome and was quiet, but a bit of an energy hog an larger than needed...

If your mini doesn't work well, throw it in the gutter and get another IMO.
